PostSat Sep 23, 2006 8:15 pm    RPG Title/Point System[Please Read]

StarTrekVoyager.com is now instituting a very unique and new system to all of the RPGs. As of today, a title and point system will be put into effect. No RPG is exempt from this and must follow these guidlines accordingly. The reason for this is to create a better standard in posting and to reward those for making great posts and contributing to the RPGs. After all, we do want to have fun with these RPs and have great reads. :D

How This Works:

The system will primarily consist of selected judges reading all the posts and deciding if any posts deserve points or awards. The basis for getting points or awards? Well, the judges will be looking for specific things.

1) Well detailed posts
2) Witty, clever posts
3) Long posts, but exciting reads
4) Strong contributing posts
5) Good character development posts

...and more. There will be many things to look for, but overall, we simply want to promote good reads. Don't feel that you have to walk around eggshells now, but do your best though. Have fun with this. Be inspired to develop your characters, further the stories of the RPG, contribute. Posting in the RPG is not the only way to get points. For example, in DSG, there is an ideas topic. If a poster were to make contributions to the RPG by giving great ideas, they can get points for that as well. That does not only apply to DSG, but all RPGs. People probably wonder where do we get this points? Again, you get them in any RPG. Unfortunetly, there is a downside to all of this. Just like you can get positive points, you can get negative ones as well. If you make a spam like post, you will get negative points. If you do not follow the rules accordingly, you will get negative points. If a GM complains about you or you give the GM trouble, you will get negative points. This is done to ensure a more clean RPG. That way, we dont have any more one liners like "Aye sir" in the RPG. Don't worry though. It will take A LOT to get negative points. Not all posts get points either. To ensure the uniqueness of this system, it will take a lot to get either one.

The preselected judges will give a + (insert number) or - (insert number) amount to each post. What they will do in the posts they feel deserves points is edit it and add how many points you deserve and why in darkblue with their names. They won't edit anything you said though. Just at the bottom, they'll make the comment.

Example:

+1 dilithium for (insert name). Well written post.

Founder

The judges can NOT give you more than + or - 10 points. So please, don't attempt to make a 9,000,000 paragraph post in the hopes that you will get + 1,000,000,000, because it won't happen. Trust me, getting 10 is HARD to do as well. Hopefully, this will clarify how it works.

The Point/Ship System:

Now you all might be asking, what is the point of "points" anyways? Does it get us anything other than a pat on the head? Yes, it does. There will be constant recognition of your skills, loyalty, and strength in RPing. You will get "ships" to show where it is you stand. To attain a higher level of ships, you will be awarded "dilithium"(points). The dilithium simply tells you where you stand. You can't buy a ship. No matter what, you go from one ship to the other as according to the list. So if you wanted to not move unto the shuttle and save up to skip to a Sovereign, that won't work and defeats the purpose. You can't "waste/spend" the dilithium unless you do something stupid and get negative points or buy the right to make a new RPG, which I state below. A heirarchy will be created to show the lowest level, up to the highest. This is a chart of the lowest to highest.

Ships:

The space dock is the highest you can get that is documented. I may appoint special ships/stations after the space dock, but I won't say how much they're worth or what they are to...keep you guessing. That way, people won't want to stop doing so well after the reach the station.

Special Awards:

In addition to the dilithium, special awards will be given for the more...middle of the line posts. You may not make a long one, but you will get an award for being witty, funny, heart warming, etc. These small, but special, awards will be carried over to each ship.

Example:

) Bonus: + Transwarp engines. Post was very funny.

Founder

For really amazing posts, you can get BOTH dilithium and ship parts. For now, parts can not be revoked, even with negative points. Unless you're being really unruly.

Special Items
Type XI Phasers
Quantum Torpedoes
Temporal Shielding
Anti-cloak scan
Romulan Cloak
Transwarp Engines
Future Voyager Technology

It is not in any order of importance. Also, there are other special items that are not listed and will pop up here and there.

Creating New RPGs[IMPORTANT]

This special part is of course going to be the controversial one. I ask that before people complain and yell to mods about this, PLEASE READ CAREFULLY. Due to the amount of...wasted RPGs we get here, you will now have to BUY the chance to create a new RPG. There are several reasons we're doing this. The first reason, is that this will force people to be careful with the RPGs they make. Hopefully, people won't rush off to make a random RPG now and then abandon it. Another reason we did this was to have people help others RPG. Now, to buy the right to make another RPG, you must join a running one and accumulate the points. Before anyone complains, thinking this will force them into an RPG that is currently running, no, that is not the case. You are allowed one free RPG right now, EVERYONE. So please, do not panic, but also try and put a lot of thought into your RPG.

The cost of making a new RPG is only 5 dilithium points. That way, you don't have to spend forever to regain the chance. Also, take into consideration that buying a new RPG takes away the points you have. If you do it a lot, you'll drop in ships.

I've created a list of RPers who have used up their free RPGs.

Founder DSG
Lord Borg Agape Locked.
squiggy Chronoshift Locked.
Republican_Man Vision of the Future Locked.
syd2002 U.S.S. Warlord: Alliances and Eneimies Locked.
Josi Rockholt USS Skylark Locked.
Wolf CSS Enterprise Locked.
tomparis USS Galaxia Locked.
Admiral Danil Borg Disconnected Locked.
CaptianCircuitGod Voyager-C Locked.
Sonic74205 Forgotten Era Locked.
Captain Dappet Wasted Locked.
La Forge Downfall Locked.

That is the list of people who have running RPGs and thus have used up their "free" RPG. Now, to make another, you must have 5 dilithium points.

Federation Council:

I wanted to be as fair and impartial as possible. So I had judges volunteer to take up the position. I did not pick anyone, before anyone thinks I stacked the judges with my friends who would be biased. All of them are mods to ensure maximum fairness.

Federation Council Members

Valathous
Founder
Lord Borg
Ziona

In case anyone feels that I or any one of the judges are biased, there are others to counter balance them. They will select who gets what. We are entitled to points as well, but CAN NOT give them to ourselves. Also, there are times that we may revoke points given if their is a general consensus that we don't agree or we may take away negative points if we feel you've been treated unfairly.

The judges will not start off with anymore points than anyone else. EVERYONE starts off at 0 to ensure maximum fairness.

In case you're wondering how to remember where you stand, you don't have to. We will keep up with it in this topic. So no worries.

On a special note, don't try and flatter us, because we won't give out points. We do like being sucked up to though and will not stop you from doing it. :P

I think that fully explains this new system. If you still have any questions, PLEASE, post here and ask. I hope this system works out and pushes for everyone to RP their best!

Special thanks to Republican_Man and Lord Borg and all those who helped me with this. Thank you.

I have some pickles with this adjusted system (I like the one I really helped you figure out better, i.e. the one described in the proposal, which I made formal), and personally think 5 is too few for starting up a new RPG, but I like it, overall, I really do. I think it will definitely do a lot of good to rejuvinate, reenergize, and pump up the roleplaying experience of the site. It's an excellent system indeed!

One thing you didn't make clear, however, is whether or not someone running an already-existing RPG is obliged to have that RPG be the one free one they're able to do. For instance, say Vision doesn't successfully get started back up and I want to do another. Do I have to wait for the proper accumulation of dilithium for this to occur? (I'm not saying I'm going to be starting up a new RPG, mind you.)

Thank you for pointing out what I missed.

For your first point, the reason I'm only doing 5 is because it isn't fair to make someone wait forever to make a new RPG. Remember, you do not get points for every post you make. It will take a little while to hit 5 and once you use up that 5 to make a new rpg, you're down 5 points. I think it works out fine this way.

As for your second portion, good question. If you have an existing RPG running, yes, that counts as your free one. Why? Because if I didn't do that, essentially that would be two free RPGs for some people and others might not find that fair. It isn't their fault they didn't have an RPG running when I implemented this rule. For some people, this rule is going to blindside them.

Although, the people with running RPGs may find it unfair they're stuck with the ones they have now. So I will make a compromise to let people catch up. For those who have running RPGs but don't want to it to count as your free one, you must make another one by Monday. If you do not, then the one you have open is your free one.

And yeah, this system was specifically designed to balance it out. No cries of bias can come from it...unless you know for a fact that all the Councilmembers hate you

I like the system on paper. I'm not sure if it will work through practice. But I think it's worth a shot.

In my opinion this new point system is a bad idea. I mean, if someone gets to many negatives or something like that it could lower their confidence and eventually lead to their dropping out of the RPG. I read the whole thing and understand most of it. The idea it self has merit but I still think its a bad idea.

We'll only be giving out negatives for really unnecessarily bad posts. Speaking for myself, I'm not going to give a negative for a run-of-the-mill average post. If it's spam, if it's just plain poor quality with zero effort, it deserves a negative. None of us are looking to put people down.

Isn't it a little too early to say it's a bad idea? I mean it just started and already there is a lot of criticism.

As I said, apparently not clear enough, it takes A LOT to get either points, but it takes even more to get negative. I stated the conditions of getting negative points. The only way you can get them is if you make spammy posts or cause trouble.

I don't see the big "fear" in that since most RPers do neither.

The main RP'ers on this site do make an effort, and though some aren't as good with form--grammar, spelling, what have you, they're not destructive to the RPG.

It's one thing to have different views, it's another to voice that it's a bad idea when it hasn't even started.

You said you felt that some people will get too many negative points. Lord Borg, Arellia, and I have said that it really isn't possible to get negative points unless you literally attempt to do so.

In fact, it's almost impossible to. It's a matter of keeping people from making bad posts that hurt the RPG, breaking the rules, and causing trouble.

Well, not clearly, but more clearly than I thought. My bad
And yes, Spellbinder, as Founder, LB, and Arellia keep reiterating, you won't get penalized for run-of-the-mill posts. Grammar and spelling aren't really a factor much at all. You won't lose points for such posts, but you won't necessarily gain posts as well.
The logic/rationale behind this system is flawless. I should know. I pretty much developed it

Founder? If you think it's too early to say whether or not you like or hate the idea, then why put in the poll? If he doesn't like the idea, he doesn't like it, in practice or on paper.

I, for one, do like this idea, but whether or not anyone likes it or dislikes it really doesn't matter for the moment though, as we're going to see if it actually works for a while before it's made permanent.

I'm going to recommend approaching this with an open mind. It's not irreversible. If it causes more trouble than it's worth, it's like it never happened! NOW EVERYBODY GO POST RIGHT NOW!

Naw. But seriously, get out there and have fun. You might enjoy making your ship all shiny.

I'm fine with people not liking it or being wary of it. For example, Ziona said that it sounds good on paper but could be disastrous in practice, which is true.

I'm not criticizing his right to hate it, I'm criticizing his reason. I don't want people to look at this and fear what he's saying. I'm also trying to put his fears at rest. I'm also trying to make a matter clear that I obviously didn't.

I don't want people to start fearing the dreaded negative points.

First of all, negative points aren't always bad.

-5 to make a new RPG. That isn't bad is it? You're just "spending" your money.

Second of all, those who do recieve them from us solely because they did something bad, are recieving it because they are breaking the rules.

I'm glad Spellbinder brought this point up, because I want it to be known that we are not giving negative points because "we feel the post sucks". I already said earlier, WHY we give them. As Areillia stated, we don't want to make people feel bad. It isn't a matter of the quality, but your participation. Some people can't make great essays of posts but they try their best and you know what? That alone warrants points/awards for that. Because they tried to contribute.

Negative points are for spammers, people who dont care about the RPG and hurt it, or rule breakers. No more, no less. We are not here to become RPG critics. THAT is why I'm addressing him and any who have the same fear.

Thank you Spellbinder.

If possible, I'd like every RPer to post here, acknolwedging they understand this.

It would help me create a list. Thank you.

I've added a list of all the RPers that are currently active. Please check to make sure it is correct. If I missed you, as I requested, PLEASE post here.

Also, to my fellowe judges, I changed the color. Again, please take a look. I don't want to use green or orange because I don't want a serious mod issue to appear and people getting it confused. So please use the color "darkblue".

I was going to use violet since that is the color of Dilithium, but it hurts my eyes to look at it.
