I watched the first episode, it was pretty good, though they went a little overboard on the soundtrack compositions. Ill probably download all of them to watch later.

I'm gonna guess that you meant "a little overboard". Hooboy, am I glad that I scaled back the sound track. You shoulda heard it before I walked it back about 20 percent!

Also, there is no "they" -- just me. Borg War is a one-person project. Which means that I had to constantly struggle against my own limitations.

Yes, thats what I meant. Thanks for spotting my mistake, sometimes my mind gets ahead of my typing.

You did well from what Ive seen. Did you write it all yourself as well?

Yes. The writing was a fairly involved process. I had an idea of what I wanted to have happen, but I wanted to re-use the sound clips from the two games so that the voice acting would sound professional and so I could use the voices of Stewart and Russ.

Writing the script required more or less memorizing the contents of several thousand voice clips files and then rearranging them (or segments of them) into an entirely new plot. In some cases I was able to use the clips verbatim, but in other cases I did a fair amount of audio editing.

The trick was sometimes finding a clip, or editable portions of clips, that were appropriate to the plot. I was also bound, to a certain extent, by the contents of the clips themselves, which is why the plot has some elements in common with the plots of the SFC3 and EF2 games (e.g. holocloaks and exomorphs, respectively.

Machinima.com, the site that's hosting the release of Borg War, just issued this press release. It's a bit, well, formal, but I thought that the information it contains is interesting, because most machinima gets popular because people play the game. Since Borg War was done with two games that don't much of a player base, the only reason Borg War could have performed so well is because Star Trek fans are supporting it. Which makes me happy, because that's why I made it.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

BORG WAR DEFEATS RED Vs BLUE

Independently-produced Star Trek feature film dethrones long-standing popular machinima video.

Los Angeles, CA October 10, 2006 Machinima.com, the largest machinima movie distribution network, announces that Episode 1 of Borg War, a feature-length animated Star Trek adventure, achieved more downloads in September 2006 than Episode 1 of Red vs Blue, the perennial winner since its debut in July of 2003.

This is the first time that any machinima video has outperformed Red vs Blue, says Ingrid Moon, head of production and programming at Machinima.com, who noted that subsequent weekly episodes of Borg War have also proven popular. On its best days, Borg War has been responsible for almost 10 percent of our total traffic, which is amazing considering that we host several thousand videos, Moon says.

With hundreds of thousands of downloads a month, Machinima.com is the community focal point for the rapidly-growing filmmaking technique known as machinima, which harnesses the 3D rendering power of computer games to create a new type of video entertainment.

Episodes of Borg War are being released every Friday exclusively on Machinima.com through November 3rd.

Borg War features the voice talents of original Star Trek series Patrick Stewart, Tim Russ and the late Brock Peters, whose performances were revived using the voiceovers included in the games used to create the movie.
