Now THERE is something hard to argue about. I think that's why parents teach these kids santa and the easter bunny/beagle. Maybe they just don't want thier kids to be scared of the really ugly things out there, like the boogeymen, the soviets, politics, and politicians, so they give them little myths to dream about.

My mom and I were at Target tonight and she got two gifts that we'll be getting from Santa (I know, I have no surprise for 'em now, lol) and I had to sneak 'em into her closet.

So, since I was an elf for a minute, I have no choice but to believe!

A teacher got fired because she told children aged 9 that santa wasn't real.

That's a complete farce. I think the shortage of teachers far outweighs the stupidity of lying to children about an obese red saint.

what's wrong about soviets?

I don't believe in Santa...why should I? I mean, I'm not religious, so we don't even really celebrate Christmas

Fired? That's a bit much. But disciplined? Most certainly.

Santa is not a religious symbol in the least

I know plenty of atheists who celebrate Christmas, particularly the Santa Claus portion.

Well, anybody who knows anything about Christmas, knows that Santa Claus idea is based off of Saint Nicholas. Therefore, religious. That isn't necessarily what people interpret it as, but it's still a religious symbol.
