9/11, a day which will be forever remembered by americans everywhere. I truely belived that untill today, i remember when i herd the news, i was in 7th grade and in my english class when a friend told me. And i will always remember the tragic loss that occured not 70 miles from me.
But today i relized, the memory of 9/11 lies with those who were at least ten when it happened. My cusin, who is now 9 asked my aunt today "whats 9/11" I have also learned that younger kids have no idea, and its all ready written into the history text books for schools... this seriously saddens me....

Same here, many young children dont know, because Parents didnt want them to be traumatized, or scared, what ever it is. I can understand the reasoning.

The younger kids i know don't have a clue about 9/11. Its "that thing in America" and that's all they know. I do however like to educate anyone who says that
I gave the lecture to my little sister the other day infact.

Hmmm. Interesting, CJ. Good for you.
I was in Language Arts (English) in 6th grade when an announcement came on the intercom regarding this. That's when I found out. My uncle was also in from New York (not the city) for a Giants-Broncos football game. Because of the situation with the air traffic he was unable to go home. I remember that, and I remember when I came home and it was on TV and all. It was one of the most shocking days of my life.
But I must part in the idea that only children need to know/be reminded about this. Adults do as well. It has become ever-evident that many adults have forgotten, in one way or another, and that's dangerous. All need to learn and be reminded, and young children especially need to know about what happened that day.

Seems so weird anyone wouldn't remember it. I woke up to it on the morning it happened... I had slept in. Immediately we went to my grandparent's house, but I remember I was wondering if bombs were going to start falling any minute. A couple weeks later I went to a camp with the kids from my school, all kinds of ages. Since we were homeschooled it was a big thing... everyone was still shocked, and it was the main conversation of a lot of kids. Going to that camp was a very interesting experience, under the circumstances.

I don't just mean remember it in the literal sense, but in its meaning and significants, so on and so forth. But anyways, this isn't a debate about that, I don't think. It's more about recollection and remembrance than anything.

Well, if anyone wants to remember by reviewing and reliving news and other footage from that day, I found a site with some incredible links to videos. It is chilling to rewatch.

Is the sound of those movies messed up or would that be just my puter?

To all of you who were talking about children younger than 10 not knowing about what happened on 9/11, a 9 year old boy named Colton was just on Fox News. He is responsible for organizing a 9/11 commemoration walk of 1,600 people, and he's only 9 years old. Goes to show you that some younger kids can actually know about the events.
Plus last week Disney Channel played their original movie Tiger Cruise, based on the events of 9/11 and loosely based off actual events on the USS Constitution (at least, I think it was the Constitution). Though my sister, who's 9 as well, knew about the events before then, it made her more knowledgable than she was before. That movie, I think, definitely brought kids into at least some light as to what happened on 9/11, helping to bridge the gap between knowledge of the day's events and lack of knowledge of the day's events. I think not only that it was a good film, but definitely a good film for kids to see.
Oh, and the creator of Casper the Friendly Ghost comics, Spiderman, and a few other comic series has come out with a 9/11 Commission Report-based comic book chronicling the events of that day, which is intended to bring a wider audience into the know.

The terrorist attacks of September 11th certainly were shocking at first and saddening after.....I remember I was only 13 years of age and I had just finished reading a chapter of "Frankie McCourt: Tis" with my Mother. So she went out to pick my Sister up from school. By chance, I turned on the television.......to find the announcement.......I even saw the second tower go down live on television. Really, we just did not understand at the time, indeedy......
......We all have a story to tell regarding that event. And it was certainly terrible but what has evolved from then? Just more death and destruction! I think people have gradually "put it aside" due to the recent wars and other terrorist plots that has forged ahead since then. It's a whole "new world" since then.......and 3,000 deaths is alot of people but more, I believe, has transpired since then. It is as with Pearl Harbour......it was shockening, saddening and terrible.......but over time, people gradually "forget", especially when more casualties from the "big war" occurred.....
....Also, it is a terrible thing, but let's ask ourselves this: Will it end? Nope. It'll continue, well into the future. Man will kill man. Unfortunetly, "men" are like that. Emotions flow and off bangs the next war!
.....To be, now......I feel sorry about the people that died.....but I feel hardly any emotion......because to me, there is so much killing in this world.....it is just like another "Day in the Life of Humanity" for me.
Now I am Christian and I hold out "hope" for Humanity.......I really do.......but only *WE* can make it happen.....and I feel that will be not in our time, or the next generation's.......

It is that day. It is September 11th, 2006, five years later, a day that we were all brought together, a day of death, of distruction, of evil. It is most unfortunate that this unity is no longer present, that it is broken. What a tragic day. The memories are flowing through. I just wish I didn't have school today...
And those idiots who say that it was a controlled demolition are just insane fools, and such idiots indeed.

Unfortunately I have to go to school now, but I've been watching the streaming Fox coverage for the last hour, and it's just frightening. I saw the 2nd collapse on it. Such frightening footage, and I wish I couldn't leave.
As I ride my bike to school I think I'm gonna listen to Bush's September 21st speech, which I have on my iPod, amongst others.
Good day, everyone, and God bless America.

Bush is about to speak. And this 9/11 streaming coverage is astounding.

It was very strange on my campus today... no one mentioned 9/11, except the people with "THE TRUTH ABOUT 911" poster on the quad, conspiracy theorists. Rather disheartening.

Nada nada enchilada at my school as well. Only a discussion in AP Gov on The Path to 9/11, with an article given to us and relating it to our curriculum. A few other references happened, but that was pretty much it. Sad, huh? My siblings had moments of silence and stuff at their schools and when my principal got on the intercom for the Pledge, I thought he would do something like that. He didn't, and just said "have a good day." Again, sad, huh?

I was proud of my first period teacher. He is a coach, and he teaches an elective class that is really pointless. He however, made us write a page and a half, typed, single spaced, 12 sized Times New Roman about 9/11. But yes, besides a brief clip on the announcements, and a moment of silence, no one said anything.

Over here in Britain, apart from a brief "rememberance" on Eastenders, it wasn't really talked about. In Britain, though, people are not as sensitive towards Terrorism as in America. Both myself and my barber yesterday were just saying how we felt more under threat from the IRA than Al-Qaeda. But still, it was certainly very tragic indeed and my thoughts go out towards the innocents that perished on that day.

Really? Even after all those terrorist plots in your country? I'm shocked.
And there was minor talk, but nothing from teachers or staff, as far as I know.

We have only has 1 successful Islamic terrorist attack. We had dozens of successful Irish terrorist attacks. Including one that almost killed the Prime Minister. I would agree that Britain was much more dangerous then.
