Mon Sep 11, 2006 2:11 pm 5 years after 9/11, many angry at U.S. |
|
Quote: | The nations of the world joined Monday in solemn remembrance of Sept. 11 but for many, resentment of the United States flowed as readily as tears.
Critics say Americans have squandered the goodwill that prompted France's Le Monde newspaper to proclaim "We are all Americans" that somber day after the attacks, and that the Iraq war and other U.S. policies have made the world less safe in the five years since.
Heads bowed in moments of silence for the 3,000 killed in the attacks on New York and Washington while a top al-Qaida leader issued new warnings in a videotape. And dissident voices brushed the portrait of a planet that has traded in civil liberties and other democratic rights in its war on terror. |

Wow I would have thought some of our foreign posters would have had something to say about this.

I don't have anything of note to add. The article is pretty much true and is the view across the world.

I've gotten used to the fact that people hate me because I'm a american. And for that I could give a damn what anyone thinks of me. Be it American Canidian, Mexican or whatever other country it be.

I think hating whole nations and people is silly. I prefer to have a dislike for the political administration.

I agree with Dirt. I don't like the politicians, but I have nothing against the people, or the land (what's the land doing anyway?).

Isn't it interesting that the Japanese don't openly "hate" the U.S., even though we NUKED THEM? Sure, they don't love us either, but they don't burn U.S. flags very often.
