When the sun will explode(and it will) then the entire earth will fall apart into pieces, melt and just simply dissappear. But when a nuclear war strikes, large portion of the planet will be polluted, many animals will die but nature will survive so the World didn't actually end, same with a Disease killing all humans, global warming and skynet becoming selfaware.
The only other options where for a moment there will be aobsolutely no life on earth for a while is with the events of revelations, the comet(if its big enough) and perhaps the alien invasion(Independence Day anyone?).
But i say, the sun will explode because thats the only fact. Though i will be in a very bad mood when i find out Skynet exists and will become self-aware(the chance is bigger then you think). |
The end of the world as we know it. i.e humans being the dominant species

When I die. Since the world is only what I perceive, for myself, it's over when I die. This "place" may continue to exist for the souls which choose to play this game. I will not be returning. This particular forum for living--earth, this universe--is here as long as there are beings who choose to be here. How long the Humans last is up to the people playing the game. If we do not advance in technology as I hope we will, we may eventually wipe ourselves out. Or someone can create a new world, just like this, and it's a moot point. Like I said. This method of existence will be "here" as long as it needs to be.
I realize this sounds odd, but my philosophy is odd. I do believe in God, and obviously I believe in souls. Just differently.

In the words of Eddie Izzard:
*After discussing how, whenever you try to do something on a computer, there's always the one thing that doesn't work and you eventually resort of percussive maintenance (AKA hitting the thing as hard as you can until it works*
"And I think that's how- if there's an end of the world through technology, it will happen through that; some American general in the Pentagon, going, "It's 5:00AM, will you bloody work?!" Smashing the whole thing (computer) with a huge hammer.... (mimics explosion) The whole world goes... Which will be quite interesting."
In all seriousness though, I do believe that the world is going to go probably through some work of science and technology and nuclera holocaust or something like that... but I do believe we have a very VERY long time before something of that size and destruction is going to happen. I honestly believe, that I will live out my life without that interruption and I honestly believe that my children will probably live without that interruption. But as for my grandchildren, I'm not so sure about that generation.

The Dominion will swoop in and conquer Earth...oh wait...this is what we believe will happen, not what we want to happen.
In that case...I don't know. Who said the world is going to end anywho? I don't think it will be disease. I don't think it will even be nukes. I think in the end, what COULD end the world, is our own stupidity. We sure do have a habit of hating each other over the smallest of things. If it were to ever happen, and I don't think it will, it will probably be because of us.
The alien invasion one doesn't work. Didn't you people watch Independence Day? All we have to is use a virus, Will Smith, and Jeff Goldblum and we're set.

Yeah, when Will Smith or Jeff goldblum die we have a big problem.
and against skynet we will always have John onnor, who will limp us into victory.

I think we'll go like every other major species has... extinction. We haven't really been around that long. So.... sixth extinction.

I put nuclear war, but I really think I should have said other... I think that humans are going to destory themselves. The Earth is a finite place with limited resources and the rate at which we are consuming those resources will make life as we know it impossible within the next millenia. As resources become increasingly scarce people are less likely to follow established rules and codes of conduct. That often constitutes violence. In hand with that will go a sense of entitlement of some groups as it is inevitable that human catagorize, and the 'scapegoat effect' towards others. As animosity grows so does violence. Instead of working to find innovative ways to live we tend to find innovative ways to kill. Really the root problem though is human consumption... I have no idea if anyone can follow that reasoning.

And if you want to be even more picky its "The Apocalypse/Revelation of John", which is from the earliest manuscripts.

You don't actually think Humans will be on Earth by the next millenia do you?

I believe that a more relavant question needs to be asked if when will the world end, or when will humans become extinct?
Indeed humans will most likely consume all resources leading to their own extinction, but the actual planet 'ending' happens when the sun grows to a size that consumes this planet, or this planet falls into the sun, or the sun goes supernova, etc. It WILL happen one way or another, it's just a matter of time. Human extinction WILL happen a HELL OF A LOT SOONER than when this world will 'end'.

I think the every bible on the planet will explode in a cheap way for the christians to prove they were right. This multi-explosion will cause the sun to go nova, and thus, ending all life within the universe in the start of a new big bang.
Actually, I'd be willing to bet that nine tenths of the planet will die because they got thumped with one too many bibles. The rest will die because they have no one to thump bibles with.

I belive the way we will die will not be from the bible. With that out of the way I vote for robots. We will die from our own creation.

I've just been converted. If we don't do something about global warming this month, all hell will break lose and the Earth will find itself on a one-way trip to destruction!
(Of course I'm kidding.)

Nope, common misconception. The limmiting factor is fossil fuels. Much of the manufacuring, farming, transportation, ect... capabilites that make modern life possible rely on fossil fuels. However, the supply of fossil fuels is finite and dwindling. The amounts left when stated numerically sound large but in the reality of the consuming envirment are not. The totality of the accessible fossil fuels will be consumed within this century. Some companies are seeking alternatives but at this point there are in reality very few that can completely replace fossil fuels. At the same time many powerfull companies discourage this type research because in the short run it costs them money. Many people say: what about this E85 Ethanol? So I will answer that preemptivly by saying that while a renuable energy source which does have good uses and should be used where possible because it lessens the drain on more traditional fuels...it cannot be produced (and will not ever be able to be produced) in the quantities necessary to replace fossil fuels.

Ah, but do not worry. The easter bunny, the boogeyman, the soviets and I, we will conquer the world in a bloody mass destructive wave, and wipe out this little planet. Do not worry, we won't last nearly that long, 5thhouse

Believer and fearer of God though I am, I find it increasingly hard to believe 1) a vision of some crazy guy on an island thousands of years ago, not to mention 2) the fact that his vision has been construed by a thousand years of translations and thosands more scholars' and random folks' words. That's just me though.

I completely believe that Jesus will come to Earth to bring all the believers to the Kingdom of Heaven, and then the remainder of people will be so completely in chaos, that it will cause the end of human life.

Revelation... I was having a discussion about the bible with a very good friend of mine today. She told me that the bible isn't really meant to be taken as literal as some people take it. She said something about how revelation was pertaining to the destruction of Rome. It made sense when we were talking about it, but it's sort of a blur right now. In my opinion, the "end of the world" hearsay, will end of natural causes. Extinction, being one of them. An alien invasion is a bit far fetched...
