My Solutions
Many people in the world are living in poverty and no one can deny that. But I have found some solutions to the problem.
These solutions are for my country. PH South East Asia
First if a person is qualified to join the military or police or fire departments then that person should be trained given that they are healthy enough and can do basic things such as reading, and simple mathematics. Getting a job is better than not having one.
Second If a person is not qualified for the jobs above then they should be hired/payed to work building houses, fixing roads, cleaning city streets, and building new roads.
Third people should be hired to clean the lakes, rivers, and oceans that are filthy because of poor sanitation, and chemicals from plants. Plus due to heavy deforestation thousands of trees should be planted in much needed areas. This would reduced flooding since trees can absorb lots of water.
As for kids who are in poverty they should be given a sanctuary where they can live in a clean environment and go to school. All payed by the government. This is for the kids with no familes. But for those who do have a mother father then they should still go to school but live with the parents. All schooling are mandatory payed by government and they are not allowed to drop out they must pass unless unable to due to health issues.
Finally squater houses, unsafe houses, and dangerous locations of towns and cities should be demolished.
For the United States
People who are homeless should be hired and payed by the U.S. Government to clean up cities. Clean up grafitti, garbage, and fix roads. They should also be given a place to live.
If they wish they should also be elegible to join the U.S. Military as an enlists if they pass the test.
These would reduce poverty by 80%.

Aah, and now for the question, where are you going to get all that money to pay these people? 'Cause I don't have it, and the U.S. Government is a few trillion dollars too far in the hole to begin thinking about funding new programs (not that this will stop them).

Sorry for late post.
In my country we grow by as much as 200,000 to 500,000 a year on such a small island. In America something of this growth would be ok because we are a big country. But down their on a bunch of small island 5million people in one area is way too overcrowding.
In the ph we already have 20million or close to it by population alone. Most of them are people in poverty. They are just having lots of babies so they can survive the family name. People eat out of garbage most of the time and its really not a good situation.
Now the government if needing money can simply produce more money. It doenst take that long to produce millions of dollars or in this case pesos. If the government just hands out money to poor people that money would most likely be wasted on things like alchohol or drugs. Its best to forceably help a person at will and make his or her life better instead of just handing out money that might be wasted on something unimportant.

All creatures on Earth breed to the point of starvation. Why should humans be any different.

Because other species have a high mortality rate. Nowadays, natural selection doesn't exist any more in humans. Many people who were meant to die now live, like babies born 3 months early. We breed and breed and nearly every one of those children survives.

I was referring to each species, not each individual. My point is that each species breeds until starvation limits the population.

Is there a point to that statement? aside from a rather...dark look on Humanity that is? I didn't realize people having children and the children surviving thanks to medical science was a problem.

^ It actually is a serious concern of some that we're fooling with evolution by making "unfit" people live. I disagree with it. I've known some rockin people who, under this idea, should have died as children. Though, through natural evolution, if we'd left well enough alone it would be REALLY weird for someone to have wisdom teeth. People who do would have gotten infections, and many of them died. I had a great conversation with my dentist, since I was apparently such an advanced specimen of the human race that I have no wisdom teeth. This is a digression.
Medical advances will always be here. I don't think it's seriously going to de-evolve us. We just need to keep advancing medicine to see if we can eliminate the underlying problems. I don't think pulling back advances in medicine is going to help solve poverty. Better birth control might.

Yeah, I guess I...agree? IDK, you kinda lost me in some areas You really can't blame on "Un natural selection" or the fact we "Breed and breed", that IS what humans have done for all time isn't it?
Anyhoo, to work on Poverty, I'd find a way to give people work, cleaning up the parks, making parks, etc... what ever it be, as long as someone has work, they can work for a better life.

Because some people believe that humans are intelligent and/or sentient (yet no one has produced a certificate to this effect, so I must assume they are just fooling themselves). Some would argue that being sentient gives humans the ability to check themselves before they destroy the environment.
So far that isn't happening. Universe: 1. Sentience: 0.
