Happy birthday Jennifer.
You were very cute with that short hair.

Actually Kes was one of my favorites on the show, I hated to see her go, she was so innocent, and I felt that she had so much to offer that was not even explored. They mainly gave her small plotlines and lots of comic elements, and they never really attempted to show her true beauty.

Nice to see another fan of Kes here, there are not so many in this part of space.
I agree that Kes could have been used better in Voyager. Besides screwing up the Ocampa pretty badly, the so-called writers and producers never used the possibilities of the great character itself. I mean, when Kes came on board Voyager she was more and less like a 20th century person brought on board a magnificent space ship. They should have used that to show us how she adapted to that new world and new life, how she experienced it all and how she did her best to learn and understand instead of shoving her away in sickbay and showing only small glimpses of her learning and adapting.
What also made Kes interesting was that she was such a normal girl. She was not the action character that B'Elanna Torres was or the leader that Janeway was and she wasn't a trained Starfleet crewmember or Maquis with some war experience. She was a normal, ordinary girl who sometimes was faced with dangerous situations but managed to cope with that thanks to her wit, courage and determination. They should have made more out of it than they did.
They should also have used her mental abilities better.
But still, despite all that, when she was given a chance in the spotlight, then she really did shine like a bright star. There were some really great episodes with Kes as the main character or as an important character, episodes like "Cold Fire", "Persistence Of Vision", "Warlord", "Before And After", "Darkling", "The Swarm" and others where Kes's best sides were showing.
And the excellent actress Jennifer Lien really gave life to the character with her brilliant acting.

Hope she had a nice birthday. How old is she now? I heard she was just in her early 20's when she started on the show. Is she at least 30 now?

Well, maybe it's a bit impolite to talk about a lady's age?
But she did recently celebrate her 32th birthday.

Sorry I'm very late in saying this but I hope she had a wonderful 32nd birthday with her husband and child.
Good grief, she's nearly in her mid thirties already!
[Now that her birthday was nearly a month ago, am going to lock this. - Puck]
