Another to wet your appetites.
If anyone wants to suggest a next image, feel free and I'll do my best.

Ooh! I love the layered planets, but it took me a sec to figure out where the explosion ended and the planet began. But I'm tired and that could be the issue here

Another suggestion for an image...Hm. I alread gave Captain Partick one and I'm wracking my brain trying to come up with another one. Maybe a ship landing on a planet (actually, in the decent course and inside the atmosphere) trying to land after being badly damaged. Could be really neat with the heat on what's left of the shields (or even have the shields gone and the heat on the bulkheads) and smoke, fire, and debris trailing behind it.

^.^

Just a hint, bulkheads are the "walls" on the interior of the ship. "Hull" is the proper term for the exterior...LOL

Great pic...I like it alot. One thing I don't like, is how the planet closest to us, the smaller one, is dead center on the picture and takes up alot of the planet that's behind it...maybe if the smaller planet were at an angle more to the right...but it's still a really good pic...

I even like how the Akira is blurred almost as if it were seconds from jumping to warp...nice effect.

TrekkieMage that's a fantastic idea, nice one. I'm not sure I have the skills to do it, but I'm definetly gonna have a go at it.

Voyager2004 I kind of agree with you on the composition here. I don't usually overlay planets which is why I went for it here, but it has left somewhat of a gap to the right of the image, good eye .

Marik a lot of the credit has to go to the makers of the ships, without which this scene would not be possible. As for the extra added effects it's all done in photoshop, which I've either experimented to death with to find the right combination, or I've picked up from tutorial sites - one I recommend is http://www.good-tutorials.com .

Anyone guess which star system I was trying to illustrate in this image?

Shhh...I haven't had enough sleep lately

Hathaway- yay! I think you'll do a good job. I like coming up with ideas, but I don't have the tools or experience yet to make them work.

I'm gonna take a shot in the dark and say that you were trying to recreate Romulus and Remus...I'm not guessing that because of the very obvious Warbird in the picture, but because of the planets. I don't really know how I came to that conclusion, but I did...lol...

And you'd be right
The larger M-Class is of course meant to be Romulus, and the smaller desolate world would be Remus... you may notice the lights on the dark side of the world (dilithium mining facilities etc).

Ya, I kinda figured that the lights on the dark side of the world would be the dilithium mines...but at the same time that could just have been a normal world with lights on at night...LOL...

But ya, that just goes to show how big of a Trekkie Nerd I am...

Somewhat off topic but since TREK vessels are powered by the energy produced by their warp reactors, and since Romulan warp cores are powered by artificial quantum singularities (or black holes), then what need would the Romulans have for Dilithium that they need enslave half of their race to mine it?

They use artificial Quantum Singularities? In what episode is that stated, please? I'm not doubting you, but because I don't know for a fact I do question you...

It's been mentioned in at least 3 TNG episodes to my knowledge (can never remember many ep names).
Good question really, though perhaps not all of their ships are powered by quantum singularities, only their larger D'Deridex-Class ships. They possibly need more monumental power then a standard warp core could provide. I've not heard a black hole being used as a power source for any other ship or Romulan facility come to think of it.
