Exactly. That is definitely right. If the country legalizes gay marriage, then the polygamists will point to that, as will those with triads, and those with this alternative form of marriage, and those with that alternative form of marriage. That is why it is so important to keep marriage between one man and one woman and not allow gay marriage, because, under equal protection, you have to allow all forms of marriage if you allow one alternative form.

It might just be me, but I don't see why it's a problem with different forms of marriage.

But then again, I don't see the point of marriage at all.

Yeah. I don't see what's wrong with having more than one husband or wife. If you want to do it, fine. Just don't complain when you have two people nagging you.
Infact, I think it's worse that over here they're thinking of making it so that if you've been living with someone unmarried for long enough then you're included under the same law as married couples. Eg, if on of the partnership dies, then the other gets their money, even though they're not married. That's stupid, because it makes marriage totally obsolete.

In the bible I'm pretty sure that it says a man can have many wives. Abraham did, and God sure loved him.

The Bible gives a few instances where God allows polygamy. However, these instances are only in the Old Testament. Anyone who claims themselves a Christian cannot attempt to marry multiple wives. Christ specifically asserts that marriage will only occur between a man and a woman, and this was how God had created it to be. The fact that people even consider allowing polygamy now demonstrates the depravity that our culture has fallen into today because it continues to turn its back on God.

One of the problems with polygamy is the fact that it leaves open the opportunity, which also occurs, to abuse programs like Welfare, etc. That's a problem, especailly considering all the kids that result from it. It weighs down on government resources too much.

Perhaps true but marriage these days isn't really about religion or god it's more a legal binding of two people and social status.

We have legalised gay marraige in britain and we don't have anyone complaining about not being allowed multiple wives. Mainly because we shooed most of the polygamists over to the USA long ago.

That's why I don't understand why some people live together for years and don't get married. Marriage is a contract, a legal binding, saying that if anything happens to one of the partnership, then the other is looked after. Marraige never used to be about love, because way back it was all arranged out of the couple's hands.

We haven't legalised Same sex marriage, we have Civil Union which are very similar to marriage but not identical.

CJ Cregg already countered the same-sex marriage legalization thing, but to the latter, you pretty much just proved my point. There are hardly any polygamists in your country while the US has a large amount of them, in Utah and Arizona, which is why you wouldn't get such calls there but would here.
