Couldn't you up the limit to 10KB? I have a damn hard time with 6KB.

- Can't you up them just a little? I don't think 10KB is too much to ask.

Multiply 6kb by how many users have avatars, then multiply 10kb by how many users have avatars and you'll have your answer I think
6kb really isn't that difficult. Look at the site LiveJournal.com - they have the same restrictions and look at the stuff that comes out of their avatars. I've gotten rather addicted to making stuff work in those 100x100 px boxes

Last I knew, the STV size was 80X80, at 6kb or less. As mentioned above, look at the ammount of users that have AV's...

Unless Morphy just recently changed it, it's 100 x 100, less than 6kb. We do it to ensure that there is a relatively quick loading time for those members who, unfortunately, are still using dial up. It has been brought up before and everytime the suggestion to raise the limit has been turned down.

- What about deleted some of those tons of 'dead' threads? No Sig Banners and deleting the dead members.

Morphy says he prefers to have all old topics archived rather than deleting them. Personal preference, I suppose. We've brought up deleting some of the members who are months/years old with 0 posts, but it's never got around to happening yet; I may bring it up again. As for sig banners, we already have some restrictions on them, which can be found in STV rules. There are size restrictions (100x500 and a certain KB restriction) and usage restrictions (once per thread or every 250 posts in 1 thread).

Yes, One is Animated, the other, isn't. Animation takes time for dial ups to load, no matter the size.

A 6kb non animated and a 6kb animated takes EXACLY the same amount of time to load. Because there both the same size.

Interesting, as with my High-Speed Broadband, animated, no matter what size takes longer to load then stills. What ever, that dont matter, what matters is what the rules say. In this case, the rules have a specific size (80 x 80 or something like that) 6KB, and non animated.

2 files of the same size will take exactly the same amount of time to download. That's a fact.
Most animations however are huge in size and will take longer to load.
I don't like animated images and i I'm glad the rules ban them.
I just thought I'd clear this up.

- If your making tons of avatars the smaller size is better. You can do a lot with a 100x100 picture plane.

- I've asked for a little raise in size to 10kb from 6kb - and that an't happening. In fact I don't think I would know any forum that would allow an avatar that huge (what you asking). I can't even see a forum allowing a sig banner being that big.

Um, incase anyone was wondering, Defiant was joking. The size he requested is a mid range screen resolution...

You can actually do a lot with it. It's a very effective palette.

Indeed, I was able to make a couple simple ones from scratch, with out even really trying, I know you can make complicated ones, I've seen people do it.

Yeah, true. But one thing...there is an option to block images in many browsers.

Some browsers allow you to block images from ads. Very nice feature
In terms of more complicated icons- here's an example:
I'd have to change it to .jpg to use it here, as .png's are larger files. But there is a lot you can do on the 100x100 canvas.
