Joan Mulgrew, Kate's mother just passed away a couple of days ago. For those of you who don't know, she was suffering from Alzheimers.

If you click on this link, and then also click on the Joan Mulgrew link, it'll lead to her obituary.

That's very sad news, MakeItSo, I hate to think what Kate Mulgrew is going through right now.

Yeah I know. I actually just made a $25 donation to the Alzheimers Association in the city of Iowa where her family is from to go to that charity. I know that she and her mother were very close. Alzheimers is such a devastating disease.

It is a very sad event to happen, and this may not sound very sensetive, but I'm sure in a sad way it will kind of be a relief to the family. Because of the nature of Alzheimers, by the end the only thing left is a shell of who the person used to be and I'm sure it must be painful to watch and be able to do nothing to make it better.

I saw an interview with Kate about Atlzheimers and she actually said her mum asked her to leave extra pills for her so she could end it swiftly because she knew what the diseas could do.

However it's still sad.

Yeah, I don't think that sounds insensitive at all. I even thought it was probably a relief for them that she didn't have to suffer anymore. I remember when my Grandma died (she didn't die of Alzheimers but she died of cancer), I was sad but also relieved that she wouldn't have to suffer anymore. But it's still a sad thing to deal with. I read her Q&A transcript from the Las Vegas Con and she sounded like she had a fun time but was also still of course, grieving but she said that didn't stop her from wanting to go to the con. I think that's pretty nice of her considering all that happened.
