PostTue Aug 01, 2006 11:01 pm    Family Loses / Gains

In this topic (which was o.k.'d by Theresa), I decided to have a discussion for STV members who either; lost a family member / friend or anything else due to a death (of course) for some reason, and / or for people who gained a new family member and / or friend because of a marrige or some other reason.

I myself have recently had both occur to me. My sister got married on the 15th of July and it was a beautiful ceremony in which we gained a new family member (maybe two<--honeymoon) and quite a few family friends. As I stated, the ceremony both at the church (in which I was an usher) and the reception was beautiful...I even learned to slow dance a little bit better. However, approximately one week later on July 22nd we had recieved word that our family had lost a dear and valued friend due to a heart attack and clogged artery. This person was a great friend of my mother's ever since their childhood and even the kids (the friend's and my mom's) grew up together and began to consider each their "aunt" after so long. I myself am saddened by this because I wanted my children to grow up with this great lady as I did and as my neices, nephews, brother, and sisters got to, but now...that cannot happen and to be honest, although it's not healthy, I don't want to believe that she is gone...she may be greatly missed, but I refuse to believe it.

So anyhow, that is how the end of July went for me and my family and this topic can involve a death or gain that occured at any time, not the last month or whatever...like the death of my Great-Grandmother (Mom's Grandma) & Grandmother (Dad's Mom) several years ago. So, let us bond together and reminise about our families and maybe help heal each other in times of sorrow...but of course, lets keep the conversations serious too.

When I was about 6 years old I lost my father to a haemorrhage in the brain. I'm 30 years now but I remember the day like it was yesterday.

I have a sister who is about 3 years tounger than I am, and it is strange that she doesn't remember our father very well.

Very interesting putting to totally contradicting subjects into 1 topic.

2 of my uncles died last month. Didn't know either of them, 1 of them was confined on bed for months before it, we are more relieved than sad that he died, they said goodbye to him months ago.
