Why did they bother sending a cube to sector 001 and get it destroyed, THEN send a sphere back in time to far, far earlier than they needed to when Earth's technology makes them unworthy of assimilation?
Uh... why not just send a sphere back to the time just before the Federation first encountered the Borg, THEN send it to Earth if they were going to assimilate practically-pre-warp Earth anyway?
That way they wouldn't have a pesky Enterprise following them back in time, if they went back in time BEFORE travelling to Earth's system.

There are several topic on how stupid the Borg are. It's pretty much unanimous. The Borg assimilated thousands of species and not one of them are smart...
