News today, including comments relayed to Prime Minister Tony Blair today by the President at a G8 Summit closing lunch.
Quote: | Microphone Picks Up Bush's Private Comments Among World Leaders
ST. PETERSBURG, RUSSIA - It wasn't meant to be overheard. Privateluncheon conversations among world leaders, picked up by a microphone, provided a rare window into both banter and substance including President Bush cursing Hezbollah's attacks against Israel.

The Bush comment, btw, as relayed by that article:
Quote: | "See, the irony is that what they need to do is get Syria to get Hezbollah to stop doing this (expletive) and it's over," Bush told Blair as he chewed on a buttered roll. |
The expletive was the "s" word.
More news now, starting with the Israeli PM standing strong in the face of international criticism:
Quote: | Israeli Prime Minister Defiant Against Hezbollah
JERUSALEM Prime Minister Ehud Olmert said Monday the fighting in Lebanon would end when Hezbollah guerrillas freed two captured soldiers, rocket attacks on Israel stopped and the Lebanese army deployed along the border.

The violence on both sides is despicable. Neither the terrorists act, nor this dramatic response are justified. Yes, Israel must react, but this response exceeds anything that was necessary, especially because of the over 179 civilian deaths and the suffering that is being forced upon the innocent population. While these targets may be considered military targets, it is quite clear who they are hurting. While Hezbollah is able to continue it's attacks, the death toll on innocent people increases along with their suffering. Soon the citizens in many areas will be out of fuel, and the damage to the transportation system will prevent food and supplies from being brought in or out. This response by Israel is punishing too many innocent people for it to be justafiable. At the same time unfortunately you have Hezbollah firing rockets into Israel bringing even more damage to the innocent citizens of Israel and has killed 12 Israelis. When this amount of death and suffering is being inflicted, neither side deserves to get away with "the benefit of the doubt". Both sides need to be held accountable for this case in which they have clearly both overstepped their bounds.
Nothing good is going to come out of this violence. The only thing we will have if they don't stop soon, is the threat of the entire region becoming involved in armed conflict. The international community needs to call for both Israel and Hezbollah to stop immediately. As is clear though, the United Nations is doing a good job at doing what it usually does, which is nothing much.
Edit: They want the Lebanese Army deployed? Is this a joke or something? The Lebanese army is certainly a joke in and of itself due to the fact that they were not allowed to rearm in 1989 and they have no warplanes.

Unfortunately Americans are being sucked into the conflict.
Quote: | Americans, Europeans Begin to Evacuate Lebanon Amid Mideast Conflict
BEIRUT, Lebanon Westerners fled by land, sea and air as Israel launched three waves of bombings on southern Beirut and on a Lebanese army base in the early hours Tuesday. |
And the violence just keeps on coming.

Once Hezbollah returns the soldiers the fighting will cease. However in this case they will never return the soldiers even if Israel agreed to a trade. In which Israel will never agree too any trade because Ehud Olmert is not your typical prime minister, he will never ever negiotiate with terrorist.
Now in the midst of this chaos the U.N. Nations will send troops that will do absolutely nothing like the troops on the ground now. They will stand around observe the fighting but do nothing to quell the violence. However with international pressure NATO and the European Union will give in and send peacekeeping troops that will do the job of eradicating pockets of Hezbollah terrorist helping Israel defeat the terror group.
The United States will probably send food, water, and medical aids to the region since its tied up in the war in Iraq & Afgahanistan cannot send any troops at the present time. Other countries such as Japan, China, and Australia might do the same.
After most of the fighting is done other countries from around the world will send money aids, food, water, medical, and housing supplies such as tents.
I think this is how the conflict is going to go down.

I think that analysis is pretty accurate, actually.
News from the war front now as Nazareth, the city famed by Jesus, which is being pelted at by Hezbollah.

Israel says it's targeted a bunker. Hezbollah says that Israel targeted a mosque or whatever that was under construction. This would seem to be "he says/she says" on a massive scale. I do think, however, Israel has been pushed enough. It's incredibly naive for people to think that they wouldn't hit back.

I agree; it is quite naive to think that.
And yeah, if that bunker's a mosque, then it's an underground mosque, and I wasn't aware that they were making those.

Yeah, this is just stupid. I'm not happy about this, at all. If they should be helping anyone, it should be Israel. That way they can end the war more quickly and aid Israel in stopping Hezbollah. This is only going to worsen the situation 10-fold.

What does this tell you about the situation in which we're in? Iran and North Korea, working together on WMD programs? Regardless of what, exactly, they did, this is a dangerous situation now, it really is.
Btw, you've gotta be a pretty conservative guy to actually read the Drudge Report

I heart the Drudge Report . I hate the page setup on FoxNews.com, CNN always seems late, or to be missing stories. That's why Drudge Report is my home page...it's up to date, and has a simple layout.

The goal is to eradicate terrorist around the world and seeing as how Hezbollah is a terrorist group its not hard to understand the goal of the IDF.

They're more than a terrorist group, which kind of makes the situation a bit more complicated. Things really aren't all that black and white.

They're a political party, yes, but that doesn't change the fact that Hezbollah is a terrorist group. But yes, it does make things more complicated.

FOX NEWS ALERT
Israel Enters Lebanon
Yes, Israel has entered southern Lebanon after warning the Lebanese to move away to prevent casualties. I think that it's about time they're doing this because a ground assault is much more effective than an air one and should limit casualties far better.
