Wed Dec 28, 2005 6:23 pm ST Ds9 The fallen Free expansion almost ready : Convergence |
|
Not sure if anyone has mentioned this before..search didnt turn up anything....but if you own The fallen and you loved the game a free expansion created by a team including one of the original game creators is almost ready....they passed the December deadline but should be soon...
For all details http://www.fusioncreativedesign.com/
A demo is ready at this stage, with three missions ,one each for Sisko,Kira, and Worf
Cant wait,i worship that game, where Elite force can be seen as "Star trek meets Quake series" The fallen is "Star trek meets Tomb raider"
If you dont have The fallen i`d def. recommend it,its not so easy to find these days but its really, really good, full of atmosphere + action

You need to install the patch for The Fallen for the expansion pack to work.

Now tentative release date-May.
They`ve been working really hard(as always.MUCHO thanks to the Convergence team people),so im holding thumbs it wont pass the deadline again..but hey, good things come to those who wait
So opinions about the 3 level demo anyone ?
Ive been replaying it a few times, cant wait for the full expansion if its anything to go by.Imho its AWESOME.
The missions are a lot..busier than the original game.More things to do,more enemies, but not impossible (though it gets close to that if you play as Worf at times).Yeah.Those fricken Jem`hadar & Grigari & cardassians .I mean there you do the usual thing and scan ahead for enemies using the tricorder.Hey,its all clear so you head in.And then...you might notice a subtle change in the music.Or it just goes quiet.Ok....not good. And you step forward and then BANG five or so of those dudes beam in around you and needless to say they`re not there to play nice.Ive knocked more than one can of soda over playing the demo :|
Really REALLY nice new cutscenes,i like the plot.Psyches you up,picking up and reading personal logs and such. And the music is as good as ever.Lotsa orchesteral stirring and creepy stuff. Also i admire the guys and girls at of the fusion creative convergence team because i only ran into one bug (for a free game ? Considering that a lot of commercial releases are FULL of bugs) ,or more a graphical glitch where as Kira i accidentally set an ensign alight and the latter stood there not really giving a damn. And enemies sometimes, just sometimes get stuck running, trying to come at you in a straight line. Not like the fallen where they come after you through doors either.(uh,good thing, you need to catch your breath in the expansion.).Its like the Jem`hadar and Cardassians have turned into Pakleds when it comes to opening Federation doors (D`oh.We look for things to make the door go!) ;/
But thats the only miniscule thing wich might put off AI purists.Otherwise, yeah,It ROCKS imho.To sum up my ramblings (sorry,i tend to go on a lot esp about anything to do with The Fallen) i like it,i love it,i want more of it
Come on,anyone got any feelings about the project so far ?

The Convergence mod for ST DS9 The Fallen is complete. We should be releasing the game in about a week, after final tweaks and testing.
I think you will find the missions (and the enemies) more challenging and fun than the much older demo. There are over 20 levels to play, and it should be a fun ride.
It has been over 2 years of work, sometimes for days on end, sometimes when time would allow. I am very proud of the mod, and of the team that helped me to create it.
We hope you will enjoy playing it.
The mod will likely be hosted at:
www.stgu.com
www.startrek-gamers.com
and possibly
www.beyondunreal.com

We're just waiting for some last-minute tweaks by one of the team, our programmer-guru, DataCable, for some of the intro work/credits and one or 2 minor things. Then a complete last run-through to be sure there are now show-stoppers, and on to release. As soon as I have the code from him, we'll test one last time and send the file to the sites that will host it.
Thanks to all of you interested in Convergence for the patience!. I am chomping at the bit to get this thing out!.

I just hope there are enough people left with The Fallen who can even play the mod!
Next time, I'll try to finish things a little faster.

Just to update, we are testing what we think could finally be the release version. We found a few minor issues, corrected them, and are doing a complete run-through. Sorry for the delay, but I am hoping that it will be less than a day before I notify the hosting sites that it is available.

For Convergence,
First make sure you have installed the 32MB Retail Game Patch, and the .exe and joystick mini-patch for The Fallen. Both are available at TrekCore.com as well as the Convergence mod V1.1 file(s).
Install Convergence only after these patches have been applied. Otherwise, you will crash almost immediately.
