In his quarters NTran had laid down to sleep. Surprisingly it came easy. He began to dream. A ship without a pilot or crew? Ive seen it before, in the old Romulan archives. It needed to be operated by a telepath. What was it called? A Romulan drone ship.
NTran woke up and immediately accessed the Romulan database. Sure enough, in the 2150s the empire had built a pair of them. They had been piloted by an Aenar. A sub search indicated an Aenar was a subspecies of Andorian. The vessel could be piloted by other telepaths. Extreme precautions should be taken when using the telepresence unit as it could cause brain damage to even the best trained telepaths. The telepresence unit allowed for the pilot to be in an entirely different location from where the ship was. NTran continued to research the Drone Ship.

Admiral NTran will be pleased that you decided to stay. He places great faith in you. You took the first step in forming a working alliance with the Federation. He admires that.

Ziona nodded quickly to Ian and set about doing long range and short range sensor scans. So far, she couldn't see anything that might surprise them in the least.

NTran continued his research of the drone ship. There wasnt much in the database. A few sketchy photos and obsolete specifications. Display Image. The image appeared on screen.
Computer, download all data into this PADD.
Download complete.
NTran got up and left his quarters. He entered a lift. Engine room.
A few moments later the lift stopped. Once out of the lift NTran rounded the corner into the engine room. The engineers were performing various tasks. NTran walked to the other side of the area into the engineers office. The chief was running another simulation. NTran heard the computer. Containment field collapse. Simulation failure.
The chief put his hand on his head. He wasnt having an easy time with this. Run the simulation again. This time reroute disrupter power to the containment field. The computer worked. Simulation partially successful. Containment field collapse in 12 minutes.
Save results. The computer beeped. The engineer stood up about to leave.
A success?
In a manner of speaking. Itll hold but not for long.
Its a start. I have another project for you. NTran handed the PADD to the engineer. The engineer looked at the specs. If youre planning on using this when we go to rescue your wife theres no way to build one in time, let alone find a strong enough telepath to operate it.
I wasnt planning on a full sized one. A smaller version. We could fit a probe with holo emitters and use synaptic transceivers instead of the telepresence unit.
I think I know where youre going with this sir. Give me a few hours to put something together. NTran nodded and left the engine room.

Shuttle
Three days away from Deep Space Guardian....
Juliet Roberts, Cadet, Fourth Year, sat in the Passenger's Compartment of the cramped shuttle. Up front, in the cockpit, sat two Ensigns, piloting the shuttle. Besides them, Juliet was the only other passenger aboard. Her destination was Deep Space Guardian, her new assignment. In fact, Deep Space Guardian was to be her final assignment as a cadet. A final training mission, to prove her abilities. She was looking forward to her assignment. A chance to serve on one of the most advanced and important space stations in the entire Federation. That's a chance in a lifetime. Plus, her sister, Juliana, served aboard DSG. She hadn't seen her sister in almost eight years. It would be wonderful to see her, let alone work with her, again. Juliet couldn't wait to arrive....
Currently, the young cadet was laying on the bed, book in hand. One of her favorite books, in fact. "War of the Worlds" by H.G. Wells. She found humans from the 20th Century to be quite amusing, especially their paranoia of aliens and alien invasion. In all actuality, Juliet had probably read the book over twenty times.
Just as Juliet was approaching the final chapter, she decided to put the book down. With an enormous yawn, Juliet set the book aside and fell asleep, still in uniform. She had a long trip ahead of her.

Aiasjia's shoulders relaxed and she shuddered. The trilithium had stabalized, thanks to her help. She closed her eyes a moment, felt the sting of instant fatigue. No wonder Fito had never made her contain a volatile chemical. It was hard. She shook her head, nudging Ian. "If you don't mind, sir...I'd like to take a break. If something happens I'll take over again."

Aia sighed gratefully, nodding and slipping into the back cabin, sitting on the bunk across from T'Sa. It was even cramped quarters back there, but Aia kept quiet as not to disturb the Vulcan, she sat up against a wall, closing her eyes and leaning her head back against the metal. The hum of the ship rattled her teeth slightly, a soothing feeling Aia had long enjoyed, ever since she had first traveled in space. "Are you alright?" She asked softly, rolling her shoulders.

Aia shrugged, stretching her legs and folding her hands in her lap. It was all she could do to keep from falling asleep. She grimaced. "If I were any more lucid I'd check on the sample I took... until then... it's okay to be scared." She laughed a little, "I'd probably react the same if I'd suppressed my emotions for the last... how old are you?"

NTran was going over the plan and updating a few details. Engineering to Admiral Ditex.
Go ahead.
I have the prototype ready to be tested.
Im on my way, Ditex out.
Ditex left his quarters and went to engineering. Over here sir. The engineer had a probe casing open. I thought you said it was ready to go.
It is, I just wanted to go over a few things first. NTran nodded.
Ive loaded the probe with a long range communication package. We could operate it from here and pilot it into Romulan Space.
Impressive, and the holo emitters?
I improved upon a technology originally designed by the Starfleet vessel that was in the Delta Quadrant. We can use the probe to simulate at least 2 ships. Theyd display sensor reading of the vessels simulated. If it was a Klingon battle cruiser all the sensors would see is a Klingon battle cruiser.
I assume youve come up with a miraculous way of supplying power to the unit?
I have. It can receive power from 2 sources. One, It contains a phased plasma energy matrix. It can operate for the better part of a year before needing to refuel.
and the second source?
Remote power distribution, we can transfer power through the communication unit. This takes longer and is hazardous if the unit is near enemy space. The energy transfer can be detected no matter what false readings the probe is displaying at the time.
When can we test it?
Right now if youd like.
Ditex to TRell. Report to engineering, bring your synaptic transmitter.
On my way sir.
Briefing Room Romulan Warbird Mistal
If youll excuse me Admiral. TRell left Donatra in the briefing room.
Engine Room Romulan Warbird Mistal
TRell had a natural telepathic ability like his Vulcan cousins. It made him the ideal choice for communicating with Kiris and for this test. What ships are we going to be simulating? NTran was at a panel looking through ship designs. We want something thatll attract attention. Ah, I got it. NTran programmed the 2 ships into the probe.
I assume youll want with to get this within visual range of the Federation space station?
You assume correctly. If we can fool the Federation, we can fool Sela.
The probe was transported into space and immediately sped towards its destination. Just before visual range TRell activated the holo emitters. 2 ships appeared. A Federation Nebula class and a Nautolian Interceptor, which was roughly the same equivalent. He made the simulated ships begin attacking each other.
Now all they could do is wait and see if it worked.

Grey worked on the starboard thrusters. As he rerouted power and started in on repairs, he noticed that there was something wrong with the computer. "That's odd," he said to himself. "Why would a diagnostic be running? I didn't ask it to do that."
He brought the diagnostic up on the screen, but it looked like nothing he had seen before. As he traced the program control structure, Grey's frown deepened. It looked like an infinite loop to him--which was just stupid for a diagnostic, because the computer would be caught until it was totally rebo--
"Oh no," he said. "No, no, no. That's not good." Grey turned to Xavier. "Captain, we've got a problem."

-Nautolian Shuttle-
Ian looked back to Grey and rose his eyebrow in confusion. A tic he picked up from his mentor, T'Sa.
"A Problem? Now what?"
As in mocking him, or perhaps it was answering his question before his Chief Engineer could answer it, the consol in front of him went dark.
"What the hell?"
-Space-
In the distance a light flashed singling that the shuttles engines deactivated. The shuttle continued foward untill it had lost it's speed, due to the systems stopping it.
-Nautolian Shuttle-
Ian looked around as other stations went dark, some stayed on though. An alarm filled the shuttle's cockpit and cabin.
"Mr. Grey!" Ian yelled over the noise. "What the hell is going on?"
T'Sa leaned foward and faced the cockpit. Her eyes widened in fear.
-DSG, Cargo Bay 2-
Dagenis looked around quietly and scanned with the tricorder. He knew that man was in this room, somewheres. If he wasn't being found though, perhaps he was in a container. He motioned for Alicia to start looking though any reasonible sized container as he used his tricorder to call for more security to come to Cargo bay 2. He looked to the man at the door. The only way in or out of the Cargo Bay that wouldn't make any excess noise, and the door made a lot of noise. Dagenis motioned for the man to stay there and watch the door.
-USS Scimitar, Bridge-
Archer sat in his chair. Cruz spoke from the helm.
"We're arriving to the cordnates, there is no sign of a vessel, they could be cloaked...."
-Briefing Room Romulan Warbird Mistal-
Donatra nodded as T'Rell left. She sighed quietly and decided to head to her ship, she only had to days to prepare...
-DSG, Ops-
Jones was standing at his usual station, even though he had command. He had always prefered to stay busy, so even though he was in command and could have gotton someone else to do this, he was running routine scans when his consol beeped. He looked at the read out.
"Oh no..."
His read out was telling him a Federation Nebula class vessel was being attacked by a Nautolian interceptor. They were quiet even in the manner of fire power. The ship might not make it. The battle was barly in sensor range. Jones thought it was odd they appeared, there was no record of a federation vessel being in the area, but never the less, it was a fedration vessel, and it was in need of help.
"Jones to Commander Blake"

Not entirely sure, Grey looked over the system statuses. But the system was not responding. "Um, as far as I can tell, I've been locked out." He took out his tricorder and tried to brute-force his way into the computers. "Some sort of security measure, it seems. Our engines have shut down, and the systems are not responding."
He took a look at their status, and inwardly cursed himself. Grey had gone over the ship with a fine-toothed comb, yet this had escaped him! Idiot! Now they would probably die, and it would be his fault, unless he could find a way to fix it.
"I'll try overriding the primary command protocols."

Ian nodded.
"Do what you can, Mr. Grey. We're sitting ducks."
Ian sighed and looked at the black consol that was lit up only a moment ago. Locked out. How had Shoran not noticed this? Or even mention it? Perhaps she conveniently 'forgot'. Ian stood and went to the back of the Cabin where T'Sa and Aia was. T'Sa spoke up.
"What's going on?"
Ian looked back to her.
"We've been locked out of the systems, Grey is taking care of it."
Ian looked to Shoran.
"Why didn't you tell us about this little feature?"
-DSG, Ops-
Blake responded over the comline.
"Go ahead Lieutenant."
Jones checked the sensors again.
"Sir, sensors indicate a Nautolian interceptor is attacking a Federation vessel. They need help, they are just within sensor range."
Blake replied, but from the sounds of things, he was on the move.
"Anything from the federation ship?"
Jones shook his head, as if Blake could see him.
"No sir, but I would imagine they don't exactly have time to contact us."

TRell spoke. Theyve been detected.
Are you certain?
Yes sir. A sensor beam passed over them moments ago.
Are any other vessels approaching them?
Not yet sir.
Hmm. We may need to make our display bigger. Increase the weapons fire from the Nautolian ship.
Aye sir.
Space, Edge of Sensor Range from DSG
The Nautolian interceptor doubled its fire power. The Nebula class was taking a beating now. It began to show signs of hull stress. Suddenly a breach appeared on the sensor module. The Federation Ship stopped firing. Breaches now appeared all over her hull. The Nautolian ship continued her assault. Moments later the Nebula class burst apart in an explosion. The Nautolian Ship moved off and disappeared.
Engine Room, Romulan Warbird Mistal
That ought to get their attention sir.
What happens when they find no debris from the destroyed ship? Did you think of that?
I simulated a particle destabilizer weapon from the Nautolian ship. It will present the appearance of total destruction down to the last molecule.
A little aggressive do you think?
Perhaps, but we were going for a convincing test were we not?
Yes, I suppose we were.
Besides, I dont often get a chance to have total control over a battle.
Bucking for a promotion?
No sir. Just living a dream. NTran smiled. His friend had some dark secrets of his own. Program the probe for listening mode only. If they run sensor scans or communications I want to be able to view them later.
Aye sir. Listening mode activated.

There was a chirp at NTrans door. Enter.
TRell walked in and sat down. He was debating on something.
Is there a problem commander?
I realize that you have your mind set on this but I feel compelled to ask. What makes you think Laura is still alive?
Sela wouldnt destroy her only bargaining chip with me. Thats how I know shes still alive.
Why would she need one?
Do you remember when I told you I took the designs for the new Tachyon Scanner?
Yes.
That wasnt the only thing I wiped from the Tal Shiar database. I also took all data that the Tal Shiar gathered since my return to Romulus. 20 years worth of intelligence. Sela will want it back. Shell offer me an exchange. My wife for the information.
How do you know?
Its what I would do in her position.
Risa, The Taylor Resort
It was still early. 0400 hours according to the computer. Cory had been up since midnight poking around the Risian system with a sensor satellite from orbit. He could never sleep unless he looked at the stars first. He often wondered how humans and other species as well survived before the invention of sensors and long range telescopes. He felt arms surround him from behind. Then he felt a kiss on his cheek. It was Tessa. Tessa Plymouth had started working at the resort just prior to Cory returning to Risa. Come back to bed.
Im almost done. Tessa smiled.
Youre always almost done but never are.
Youre right. Im sorry. Cory saved the sensor readings and went back to bed.

After working for hours, the operation was finally over and Kiris Ditex's illness was now cured. The EMH sighed in relief and turned off the equipment, satisfied with the results. He approached Kiris' resting body and woke him up with a hypo to the neck.
"Rise and shine." He said.
Seven of Nine walked over to the other side of the hybrid and looked down at his face. Several Borg implants were on his body, but the Doctor would work on getting rid of them.
"How do you feel?" She asked.

Reed checked the scans that the Tholians were sending to the ship. One of the scans showed the remains of trillithium resin.
"Captain," He said, "The Tholians found them. Your orders?"

Kiris heard sounds. Mechanical sounds. Another sound that sounded like an Arc welder. A buzzing sound. Then he heard voices. It was the doctor and Seven of Nine.
Doctor, Seven. Kiris could see his face in the display on the wall.
What happened to me? he saw Borg implants on his face. He could feel them elsewhere as well.

NTran couldnt sleep. He never could before the eve of a mission. He wanted to see his wife again. He got up and went back to engineering. TRell and the engineer were building another probe with holo emitters.
Change of plans Commander, were leaving tomorrow morning.
The other probe hasnt picked up and sensor readings or communications concerning the test.
Keep listening. Regardless if it finds anything or not we leave tomorrow morning.
Aye sir.
NTran left the engine room and went back to his quarters. He opened a communication to Admiral Donatra and left a message informing her of his change of plans.

Aia growled softly, slipping back into her previous chair. She was still drained, but she'd been through worse in the past months. Her brow creased as she surveyed the computer's controls.
"This isn't normal." She said softly, biting her lower lip. "This was done remotely... sir, somebody has an idea that it's us. With all the people who must be looking for me, I'm not entirely surprised. All the people with psionic abilities, no less. It could be anyone in the empire."

Cory woke up. Tessa wasnt beside him. A whiff passed by. It smelled of his favorite breakfast. Tessa walked into the bedroom.
Wake up.
Im awake.
Are you sure?
Is the world round?
Yes.
Well theres your answer then isnt it. Cory smiled as he sat up. He liked the little games they played. Cory smelled the breakfast again. She didnt fix breakfast the old fashioned way unless there was a special occasion.
Whats the occasion?
Do I need an occasion to fix you breakfast. Cory sat up strait.
Yes, you do. You hate cooking with an oven. Tessa just smiled.
Just come and eat. Cory put on his beach clothes and went into the kitchen. Shed outdone herself. There was everything. Bacon, Eggs, oatmeal, Sausage and a few other thing he wasnt sure of. They started to eat. Soon later they finished. Cory was still unsure of her reason for fixing breakfast.
So really, whats they occasion? Tessa handed him a PADD.
Starfleet Command to Ensign Cory Taylor
Youve been assigned to the Federation space station Deep Space Guardian
As their chief of Astrometrics. Your orders are to report there within the next 3 days.
End Message
Does my father know?
He delivered the PADD. He said he didnt want to wake you. Cory sat down. Finally, an assignment. He could finally put his skills to work. Cory knew why she fixed the breakfast now.
You dont want me to go.
I want you to do what makes you happy.
I do want to go. Why dont you come with me?
There wouldnt be anything for me to do there. Plus, what about your father? He needs help to run his resort.
Im sure DSG has some sort of Entertainment facility you could work at and as for my father theres more than enough employees around.
Are you sure you want me to come?
Why wouldnt I?
Most ensigns wouldnt bring their girlfriends along on their first posting. Cory smiled, got up and hugged her.
Im not most ensigns. Pack some things, Well leave as soon as I talk to my father.
