PostSat May 13, 2006 2:24 pm    Best TNG Movie?

Sorry...I'm not sure if this topic has been done before. If so, lock this...

Anyways...

Which is your favorite Star Trek: The Next Generation film?

Generations

First Contact

Insurrection

Nemesis

I'm gonna guess that First Contact will be the most popular, but, I'm torn...I liked both First Contact and Insurrection...

I know that not many people liked Generations, but, I loved the fight between the Enterprise and the Klingon warbird...don't ask me why. I just did. Plus, it was a nice way to wrap up TOS...with Kirk's death and all.

I'm not sure why so many people dislike Nemesis...Do they honestly think that Nemesis is worse than...*gulp*...Star Trek V: The Final Frontier? *shudder*

Insurrection is my favourite. It was a very well-told tale, well-written and superbly directed. I thought the plot was very interesting, and that they made the best use of the concept.

I don't think Nemesis was as bad as people say. I actually quite liked it and it's a shame we'll probably never see another TNG movie. What didn't help the film over here is that it was released at the same time as a Harry Potter movie, the last James Bond movie and Chicago. The movie world is crowded enough as it is, without releasing a Trek movie amongst films which are likely to overshadow it.

First Contact is the best of all the trek movies by far! When the Borg came onto the scene it got really exciting!
They really scared the life out of me!
When I went to see the movie for the first time at the cinema.Heaps of people dressed up as borgs or klingons/starfleet etc.

i would have to say first contact, it screws with the prime directive *for the best as usual* but ya time travel, you get to see what the world looks like as a borg planet, and what it looks like at the begging of the warp age...just for starters

FIRST CONTACT! Followed by Insurrection, Generations, and Nemesis. But Nemesis was a very promising plot line but was executed ina poor way.

And I agree with La Forge, I do love the fight between the Enterprise and the Klingon warbird. It was just kind of exciting. But I loved First Contact.

I loved the part in First Contact when the whole of starfleet were trying to bring down the borg cube.In comes the enterprise when captain Picard tells the fleet he is taking over command.Tells them all to fire on these co-ordinates,they all give it what they have left. Then the cube explodes! Then the part how they travel back in time and blow up the "ball" ship as its firing at the earth!Totally awsome!
It was freaky seeing the earth turned into a borg planet! Also seeing how our "beginings"come about!I liked that Zephran Cochrane was just an everyday guy who drank and had an idea for warp drive! But being scared of flying too!The lady pumping rounds of bullets into Data and he just continues walking towards her "GREETINGS".Heaps funny,he was an awsome character!
I loved the whole movie.

I would have to say First Contact. The story is great and the encounter of Borg is even greater but what was more interesting was travel through time in to the past where we could actually see FIRST CONTACT. I was stuned when I saw Zefram Cochrane and first warp ship PHOENIX. I mean that was the best Star Trek movie ever. I watch it every week al least once!!

I choose First Contact - I'm a sucker for the borg. Vampries in space suits as I like to think of them. But besides the borg thing it had a great plot and was very well exicuted.

Then I'd choose Nemisis, Didn't like Insurrection that much. I did like Generations, it was good to see Kirk die.
(am I going to pelted by rocks now?)

My favorite has to be First Contact because of the borg. And also Data's scenes with the Borg Queen. I liked the other movies too. I thought Nemesis had a really good story.

Nemesis DID have a good story. The movie also had ALOT of potential. But I just don't know why it went bad. I mean, I like it and all, but it's definitely not my favorite. It was just.....lacking. And I don't even know what they were lacking...

First Contact and Insurrection are close for me. I didn't dislike generations perse, I just like the other two more. And then Nemesis... Voyager2004 put it well, it was lacking...in what I don't know. Personal interaction was lacking a little, but not just that. Still, I wouldn't say I disliked it.

FIRST CONTACT without a doubt.

That movie was cool.

Action, acting, story, cast, humor, visual effects... all was good. and it had one of the best Picard moments ever (quoted in my signature).

I've been thinking some more about why Nemisis doesn't really do it for me:
+Lack of a target audience. The movie seemed like it was trying to aim to everyone, but then only ended up really not going to much of any group. I think like the producers were trying to make it too universal and thus lost a large portion of the fanbase while not entirely making the general public audence either.
+Lack of cast chemistry. The chemistry was so obvious and entertaining, and then the humor going on in Innsurection that Nemisis just seemed like a step down. Nemesis didn't really convey the cast chemistry that Insurrection did and that was disappointing for me.
+ Too much macro level focus in a strange way. I don't really know how to explain this one.

Yeah I do agree with you. There did seem to be a lack of chemistry between the cast. Especially compared to the last few movies. The chemistry should have been even more apparent since it was supposed to be the last TNG movie. I thought the last movie should go out with a bang...but instead it went out with a dud...

If First Contact is with Enterprise-E and the borg nearly assimilating all of humanity then First Contact is my favorite.

It's been so long since I've seen it, this post is probably a disgrace to Trekkies.

First Contact. I giggled whilst watching the scene where Data kisses/is kissed by the Borg queen!

Tracking directors over time, I think the fact that Frakes was directing Insurrection really contributed to the feeling that I get from the movie, there tends to be that sense when he's direction (episodes or movies).
