PostTue Jun 27, 2006 4:16 pm    Star Trek Pre-flections(Prequel(s) to STAR TREK: MIRROR rpg)

This is a story about the characters in the RPG Star Trek Mirrors PRIOR to thier showing up on the ship.
Note that I will not write a background to any character but my own. Everyone else can do it themselves, here.

Starfleet Records base, Alpha Prime.
Accessing personel file: Lauren Van den Haus....
Ready.

------------------------------------------
The Pixian Mission: USS Proximity, 17 years ago.
------------------------------------------

Captain Lenara stared at the small planet displayed on the main-screen.
It was... pretty...
The mostly-water planet had only two continents.
One in the northern hemisphere, which was mostly marsh, and one in the souther hemisphere, which was mostly rain-forest. Either continent would make a pleasing shore-leave place.
Ensign Allen Forpe, at the ops station, stared up in dis-belief.
"Captain!!!" He exclaimed.
"What is it Allen?" She replied, rather annoyed at the youthful energy within the boy's voice.
"There... are... people... I think... on that planet." He replied.
"That's impossible!" She scolded him, almost like an old school marm, "The probe drones would have detected that!"
"Captain, if I may" Sytop, the universe's oddest vulcan, and her science officer interrupted.
"What, Points, get to the point, and fast." She muttered.
"Captain, with all due respect, those life form readings that allen is registering are SMALL. Small enough to be mistaken for insects.
"INSECTS? How? People don't have wings!" redirecting her school-marmish scolding at the vulcan now.
"Captain, again, with all due respect, These people appear to have wings, and only grow as tall as 2 feet, and even then, there aren't many that big. I would recommed a landing party to go down and attempt to make contact, to discover wether or not these creatures are sentient." Sytok responded.
Lenara's eyes bulged at Sytop's data, but his logic, unlike everything else vulcan about him, was unflawed.
"Very well, Commander Sytop, Ensign Forpe, your with me. Security please meet me in the transporter room for a landing party." the Captain rattled off, not bothering with facts.
"Captain.... If I may..."
"Points, seriously, just stop that bullcrap and tell me what you want to say" the captain said, rather frustrated.
"Captain... this planet's ionic atmosphere will not permit very adequate transporter use." Sytop whispered.
"Very well, Commander Sytop, Ensign Forpe, your with me. Security please meet me in Shuttle Bay 1 for a landing party." The captain hastily backtracking the transporter command.

-------------------------------
129 Eridana, "Pixia"
-------------------------------
Lauren fluttered through the forests, annoyed at the large amount of pixians following her, wanting to know why she refused to adhere to the society's laws.
Whenever the teachers told her there was only this forest, and nothing else, she simply replied "There's gotta be something more".
Whenever the proctors told her it was unsafe for her to leave the village, and that there was nothing worth exploring out ther, she simply replised "There's gotta be somethinge more".
Now, having broken the sacred laws, and left the village, the proctors were chasing her.
She needed something... someone... anything... to help her...
Lauren was only 19.
However, her smaller size, and youthful energy permitted her a quick 2 km more an hour than the proctors. Plus the proctors were wearing heavy armor...
She looked ahead...
...and stopped.
She turned around, and noticed that the proctors refused to go past the boundaries of the forest.
She fluttered there, in the middle of the meadow.
It was golden, touched by the sun.
There were butterflies that she had never seen.
There were flowers she had never slept in...
...There was more.
She looked into the sky, and saw a crystal rain drop flying on it's own towards her.
The proctors turned and fled from it.
Lauren stared at it.
She looked at her crossbow, neatly hanging off her shoulder...
...and left it there.
Somehow...
She knew these people were trustworthy.
They had to better than the proctors.

------------------------------------
Shuttle Andromeda- Planet Pixia
------------------------------------
"Damnit Ensign! Regulations don't let you use impulse out of a shuttle bay!!!" The captain scolded him.
"Captain... I..." ensign Forpe started.
"That's enough, ensign!" She exclaimed.
"Captain, I believe the correct term is "Lighten up"." Sytop whispered.
"Quiet points!" She responded, and tugged on his ears.
Sytop just shook his head, but kept that annoyingly un-vulcan smile on his face.
"Captain! One of those... things... is in the meadow below! It's... armed... apparently... but it seems not to think we are a threat." Allen exclaimed.
"Ensign, I believe the correct term is "Tune it down"." Sytop whispered.
"It's "tone it down", points, but that works too." The captain replied.
Everyone in the shuttle stared at the screen, as the shuttle prepared for landing.
As the bay-door opened, Ensign Forpe leapt out in the direction of the life-form, but could not find it.
Sytop stared at the forest, then at a flower bush nearby.
"We are bieng watched, captain." Sytop whispered.
"Set up camp. let them come to us." The captain replied.
"Aye Sir." Sytop said.
"Yes ma'am." Allen said, making a sarcastic twist to the word ma'am.

----------------------------
Flower bushes.
----------------------------
Lauren watched the three odd ones.
She sat there, in the un-named flower, and just watched, for hours.
They had a unique banter between them...
...there was "Old hag", and "Points", and "Young Fellow"...
One of them looked almost like an overgrown wingless pixian... but the other two...were wierd... and kind of scary.
But they were still better than the proctors.
She stared at the forest, and saw them. They were assembling.
She realized that they thought of the visitors as a threat, and would attack once they fell asleep.
For the first time in her life, she understood why she defied the laws of her people.
As fast as her wings would take her, she flew at the camp.

--------------------------
Camp-site
--------------------------
"Captain..." Sytop whispered.
"What is it, points?" She whispered back.
"There are a number of armed life-forms over there... and... one is comming this way... from the other way." He replied.
The little pixie-thing flew into the middle of the camp.
"It is not safe here! They do not want you here!" It said, sounding quite agitated.
"Who is "They"? Allen asked.
"Who are you?" Sytop asked.
"Nevermind that! The young lady says there be trouble a brewing, and...."

>BLAM!<

Something rocked the side of the shuttle.
"We must go!" The little pixie exclaimed.
"You heard the lady!" The captain said in agreement.
The shuttle fell on it's side.
"Not that way." Sytop said.
"You think?" The captain replied.
The pixie took the crossbow off her shoulder, and started firing into the forest.
"We must go!" It exclaimed again.
"I'm working on it!" The captain replied.
"captain... the transporters..." Sytop whispered.
"They won't work in this atmosphere, I know. But it's our only chance." The captain replied.
A dart-like thing hit ensign Forpe in the chest, and he fell to the ground, almost instantly dead.
"Cyanide!" Sytop exclaimed.
"WHAT?" The captain responded.
The little-pixie-thing fired a few more rounds into the forest, and less darts started comming from it.
Sytop pulled out his phaser, and let loose a few blasts, and even less darts came from within the forest.
The Captain grabbed the ensign's communicator badge, and put it on the pixie-thing's crossbow.
"My thanks to you, young lady." The captain whispered.
"Sytop to the Proximity! Emergency beam-out for FOUR!" Sytop muttered into the thing.
---------------------------------------
Shuttle-blast-scene
---------------------------------------
Lauren stared at the little emblem on her weapon, and suddenly felt a strange sensation erupt within/around her.
The world turned blue, but she couldn't close her eyes.
Her hands and feet tingled, but she couldn't move them.
She could feel her crossbow in her arms, but she could see it...
and then...

---------------------------------
USS Proximity, Transporter Room 1
---------------------------------
The Transporter operator looked at the crew on his transporter pads.
There was a downed federation ensign, a very unhappy captain, a very tired looking vulcan... and... something flying in the air, barely a foot tall.
The captain turned to it, and whispered something.
"You are welcome, captain "Old hag"." it whispered back.
Sytop laughed a little at that.

13 Years ago: Starfleet Graduation Cerimony
-------------------------------------------------
The cerimony had gone on for hours and hours...
and lauren just sat there, in the big overgrown chair.
She had to hand-tailor her robe, as the computer kept telling her "inacceptable data" whenever she asked for one her size.
Finally, the anouncer was in the 'u''s.
"And last, but not least, even if she is the smallest, ladies and gentlemen, this year's Cadet of the year, Lauren Van den Haus!" The anouncer exclaimed.
She carefully flittered up to the podium, and sat on it, so she could talk into the microphone.
The cameras could barely even SEE her.
"So, Lauren, how does it feel to be the smallest person ever to graduate from Starfleet Academy, never mind with the best cadet of the year award?" The anouncer asked.
"It feels... big." She replied, getting and eruption of laughter from the audience.
The anouncer laughed a bit, and then asked "So... how exactly do you throw someone thirteen times your size, and thirty seven times your weight across the gym?"
"Umm... Carefully. And with alot of anger from the fact that they are busy making fun of your size." She responded, glaring at a certain cadet, who learned that size doesn't matter when you have speed and agility on your side.
"Forgive me, if I'm wrong, cadet, but your file says your going into Command training. Any special reason for that?"The anouncer asked.
"A promise I made to a good friend." She replied.
------------------
15 years ago, Starfleet Academy
------------------
Lauren sat there, at the cafe, sitting on the table, while reading a book, also on the table.
She flipped through it, wings fluttering with delight.
There is more out there. She thought, looking through time-space warp theory, and Matter-Antimatter Combustion drive blueprints.
A familiar voice came out through the crowd of people bustling about.
"Hey bug-girl!" An elder crisp voice exclaimed.
"Hey old-hag!" She said, looking up to see Captain Lenara.
"Engineering? Bah! Girl, you can do so much more, if you put your soul into it. I can see it, even if you can't. You were meant for the center seat on the bridge, not the engineer's desk." She whispered.
Lauren went stark white.
"C-c...c...Command?" She whispered back.
"Darn tootin, young lady. Go for it. Show them what your made of." Lenara replied.
"Yes ma'am!" She exclaimed, saluting, and then flittering off to go see her academy councellor.
-----------------------------
Academy graduation ceremony
-----------------------------

"Well, ladies and gentlemen, that concludes our evening. Have a safe flight home, and remember, alcohol and flitters don't mix." The anouncer said, signing off.
Lauren sat there, on a corner table, watching the people dancing, and talking, and having fun.
She had no clue how she would dance, if she ever had to... it's not something easy to do for someone under a meter tall...
"Cadet Van den Haus." A familiar voice said from behind her.
She turned around.
"Points!" She exclaimed with a big smile on her face.
"Cadet... I've got... a proposition for you..." Sytop whispered.

-------------------------------------------------
5xSUEXA Secret base, Planet Andor's third moon.
-------------------------------------------------
Admiral morrow stared around the table, looking amused at the compilation of people accumulated there.
"alright, Ladies and gentlemen. Let's get this started. Two present at this meeting will be shipping out tomorrow. The rest will stay here as Starfleet Secret Service for Sacred or Scientifically UnEXplainable Artifacts base staff. Those of you shipping out will recieve full rank, and attire, once you board the ship. First, let's have a little introduction around the table."
"I am Admiral Morrow, Commanding Admiral of the 5SUEXA Project. I am in all essences your commanding officer, field officer, and C&C. Any questions or concerns can come through me if you cannot find an answer from anywhere else."
"To my right is Commodore Sytop, an estranged vulcan, and the one behind all the Akira Refits you are about to watch. Shall we get started, Sytop?" The admiral asked.
"Certainly sir." The Commodore responded.
The display computer showed a few basic pictures...and then..
Ship Statistics:
USS Windex
Class:
Akira, Version 7.9, "Scorpion".

Experimental Prototype Alpha.
Compact style, at almost a 1:9 scale when compared with the original akira.

Total Length:
4.7 Kilometres.((Rough Estimate))
Total Width:
3.45 Kilometres.((Rough Estimate))
Total Weight:
2,874 Metric Tonnes with no crew quarter modules installed((Current Configuration)).

Defensive Capabilities:
"Mirror Hull Plating": reflects most standard phaser-styled weapon beams back at originator. Not especially accurate at warp speeds.
"Scorpion Hull Plating": When your Mirrored Hull plating goes down, this is generally considered the last resort. The vessel can essentially set itself up to be a rather large and weighty Ram-em-then-blow-em-up weapon, in which both vessels are likely to be destroyed.
Standard Starfleet Shielding, including anti-tactical scan systems, preventing opponents from realizing this is not a typical akira class ship.
Klingon Cloaking Device: State-of-the Art klingon cloaking technology permits the USS Windex
Offensive Capabilities:
"Scorpion" weapon setup: Power-conserving High-Impact Phaser banks are setup around the upper-most portion of the ship, capable of firing in 360 degrees, including below the ship, all while bieng cloaked.
"Dual Pulse Phaser" configuration: Dual Pulse phaser cannons, and rapid fire torpedoe launcher equipped to both warp nacelles. --Upgraded.--
--"Dual Pulse Phaser Upgrade": Starfleet decided that the Dual Pulse Phaser idea simply would not work in this configuration, because of the smaller ship size, and power conservation issues. Instead, Starfleet installed the same "Scorpion Setup" phasers on each nacelle, permitting the vessel to fire in any direction, while still under cloak.
Standard Phaser Banks: Standard Phaser banks are located on the "Saucer" section of the ship. These phasers are tied directly into the transwarp drive, and do not have the power-saver technology, making them worthless while in transwarp, or in cloak modes.
Standard Photon Torpedoe Bays: Standard Photon Torpedoe Bays are located on the saucer section, facing in four directions with fly-by-wire capabilities for the Ops officers with a little touch for flare. There are also uni-directional ship-targetting photon torpedoe launchers on the upper-most section of the vessel, however, these bays are not power-smart equipped, and cannot be fired while in cloaked or transwarp modes.

Propulsion Systems:
Standard Docking Thrusters: Boring, plain and simple. Capable of speeds up to Warp 0.009.
IMPulse Engines: These IMPulse engines are equipped with the power-saver technology, which also reduces the emissions the vessel creates, making it harder to spot.
Standard Warp Drive and Core: The Warp Drive is not configured for Cloak in this configuration. Therefore, during certain missions, this vessel really is a sheathed knife while flying into combat. When in non-power saving mode, both mirrored and scorpion hull plating ports are not active, and all "power-saver" weaponry are off-line, making this Akira look like the Akira Class "Gunship Refit", provided the enemy does not recognize the scorpion on the nacelles.
Transwarp Drive and Core: Abusing the failed NX-007 Projects' Transwarp features, the 5xSUEXA WINDEX fully incorporates the transwarp core, and drive into all Scorpion-Version added features. Without the transwarp core, this vessel is essentially a very small, and minorly weak version of the standard Akira class vessels currently in date.

Other Additions:
Extensive Holodeck Capabilities: The Entire Vessel, including the Bridge is loaded to the brim with starfleet's cutting edge Holodeck capabilities. Crew on duty no longer have to walk to a replicator for a cup of coffee. They simply request one, it appears, they drink it, and the cup disappears. No fuss, no muss. The EHCS((Extended Holodeck Control System)) also incorporates several trans-warp powered safety features, including pillows appearing in very helpful places during crashes.
Completely Automated Medical Center: Due to the fact that this is a compact vessel made strictly for battle, not rescue, or exploration, this vessel is only equipped with one Medical Technician, which watches for technical glitches, and assists the CAMC system when it cannot find an answer for any given ailment.
On-Board Repair Drone Squadron: Starfleet finally got something right in this one. Instead of going to a starbase for extensive repairs, Starfleet encorporated a Repair Drone Squadron in with a skeleton-standard engineering team.
Messhall to Arberetum Conversion: Due to the holographic nature of practically every crewmember's lifestyle, including the ability to have warm food replicated infront of thier face at any given position on board, the Messhall was converted to an Arberetum, which includes several Terran, Vulcan, and even Klingon flowers, fruits, and vegetables, as well as several overly-large trees.
"SHIMMER": Statistical Hit Indicator and Mirror Move Exploitation Routines: The on-board computer of the 5xSUEXA Windex includes several TRILLION Mirror Move Exploitation Routines, and encorprates a "Statistical Hit Indicator" into the OPS board. The SHI also displays likely damage dealt to any targets with known ship-structures on file.

and lastly:
The Crew Compliment((And the Crew))
The all important part.

Current Available Positions:
First Officer((Must be joined with another bridge officer duty.))
Second Officer((Must be joined with another bridge officer duty other than the First Officer's))
NavigOPS Officer: Due to the incredibly integrated battle style of the Scorpion class vessel, the Navigation Officer doubles as the OPS officer.
Science Officer((Recommended for first or second officer))
Communicational Warfare Officer: The Scorpion Akira vessel includes the ability to launch an attack on some enemies with weaker computer systems, such as romulans or klingons, through standard communications bands. This officer may, out of luck, lock onto the lucky code for an enemy's shields, or even better, disable thier power systems.

Medical Technician: "Doctor" of the ship's automated medic center.

Engineering Crew:
Chief engineer
The following engineers can be mixed-up, creating unique job titles.
Standard engineer
Cloaking specialized engineer
Transwarp specialized engineer
Weaponry specialized engineer

Other Personel:
Security Strike Force:
As a general rule, the odds of any opponent actually BOARDING the Scorpion-Akira Class WINDEX is minimal, however, as any crewman can synthesize a phaser, even if under watch, make the likelyhood of any such boarding party living long pretty small. Therefore, the WINDEX is only equipped with a Security Strike Force. These highly-trained security officers abuse the less-than-lethal capabilities of the power-saver phasers to take over enemy vessels, and gain as much data as possible. The SSF is considered a division of Starfleet's Special Forces, instead of the Starfleet Secret Service for Sacred or Scientifically UnEXplainable Artifacts division, giving the Chief Tactician more slack, as s/he can legally debate some orders given to him/her.
Positions:
Chief Tactician((Captain Position))
Starfleet Special Forces Operative((total of 5 positions.))

Lauren stared in awe.
In fact, the entire room stared in awe, except the Commodore, and the Admiral.
"Tremiles, Your going on board, as my choice, for First officer. Sytop I believe it's time you introduce your guest." The admiral said.
Sytopwalked around the table to a position next to Lauren, and she stared up at him from the table.
"Ladies and gentlemen, may I introduce Captain Lauren Van den Haus, Now serving as Captain of the USS Windex. She is a unique entity, and anyone who has made sarcastic remarks about the fact that she is sitting on the table... I do not envy you." Sytopsaid, in his usual, plain, and down-to-earth voice.
Lauren sat there... letting it sink in...
CAPTAIN?
The Admiral's assistant made some kind of sarcastic remark about how when it comes to captains, size should really matter.
Sytopshook his head.
"Ensign Ran... you shouldn't be insulting her... you have no clue..." Sytop trailed off.
Lauren glared at the ensign, flittered directly at him, and grabbed him by his pathetic mustache, and threw him into the projection screen across the room.
"what kind of entity you are dealing with." Sytop finished.
The entire room was silent, as the ensign carefully got up, and stared at Lauren.
"I like a woman with a good throw."
"Ensign... really..." The admiral whispered.
Lauren flew at him again, except this time, she pulled out her crossbow and nailed him in the head with a tranquilizer dart.
"I... don't feel... so0oloooo... gooood...." he trailed off, and collapsed.
"Welcome aboard, Captain Van den Haus." Admiral Morrow said with a smile, shaking hands with the small pixie.
Everyone carefully stepped over the collapsed ensign on the way out.

-------------------------------------------------
USS Windex - Captain's Ready Room.
-------------------------------------------------
Lauren stared around the monsterous room.
This was the place where she had to make important decisions, and where her and her staff would meet for meetings.
Of course, no one was presently on-board yet... Tre and her hadn't even recieved official mission details yet.
She stared at the "Briefing Table", and smiled.
Sitting, at the head, there was a seat ONTOP of the table, which was designed to seat someone roughly 1.3 feet tall by 0.75 feet wide. It had a computer panel in the arm-rest, which she found quite accessable, and a small table, which encorporated a PADD, and a small terminal for her-use only.
She made a mental note to thank sytop later. He deserved it.

Alpha Prime - Admiral Morrow((Non-Player Character))
The Romulan War - Odd allies
----------------------------------------
Admiral Morrow's Office: Andor's moon
----------------------------------------

Admiral Morrow stared at his viewscreen.
He saw sensor images of THIRTY SEVEN Romulan warbirds that had been taken over, and converted to "Faerie Dust" format by the planet pixia's Proctor forces.
"...And so, Admiral Morrow, You must know, that the next in line for the Hokudan, Pixia's Proctor High Commander, would have been your Captain Lauren Van den Haus. However, as you are now our allies in our mutual struggle against these pig-eared freaks, I must Request that the Hokudan be returned to Pixia." One of those strange people of Lauren's race finished, as the display went blank.
Lauren((Laur to all on station, much to her chagrin)), stared at the blank screen.
"I'm not going back, Admiral." She whispered.
"No, Captain, you are not. I have already informed them that you joined starfleet on your own whim, and that you have learned to much, and made yourself too important to just be forced to go back to a home you don't agree with anymore." The Admiral replied.
"..Thank you sir." She said, somewhat quietly.
"This is thier response, and the entire reason I agreed with Sytok to allow you to captain the ship." He said, and started the viewer before she could say anything.
The Ramadia of Pixia re-appeared on the screen.
"Greetings again, Admiral Morrow. It is most like the Hokudan to do that which we least expected. You have a gift on your side of the lines, Admiral. All that we request, then, is for her to play an important role in this endeavor. Also, let her know that she has become the Hadokan. The feminine hero of most pixian children. She even defied the proctors, and got away with it. I expect this war against the romulans to not last long."
The view screen went dark again.
"Alright, Hadokan Van den Haus," the admiral said, with an amused look on his face, "Your crew will be governed by Starfleet Regulations, however, you specifically are governed by Pixian regs. In other words, your word is absolute on your ship, as long as myself, or no high-ranking pixians are on-board. Note that you are, however a Starfleet Captain, and you are bound to the orders you are given."
"Yes sir." She replied.
"As a question, Young lady, precisely what the hell kind of a rank is Hadokan?" He asked.
"It would be roughly equivelant to the Starfleet's Chief & Commander, sir. If we have any problems with any pixian forces, I do not envy them once they discover who thier opponent is." She said, quietly again.
"Very well... dismissed, Captain." He said, and watched her leave.
Holy Jebus... Thomas Morrow thought to himself. C&C? What an odd ally to have aboard. I hope she doesn't have to use that power, though. It looks like bieng a captain is hard enough on her. I'm glad I sent Sytop's odd relative with her.

Alpha Prime - Sytop Tremiles
The decisions
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Starfleet academy Graduation Ceremony - Several Years ago
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Sytop nodded towards her, staring at Admiral Morrow.
"Sytop, Do you have ANY clue how long it will take her to get her up to captain?" The Admiral asked.
"Yes, Admiral. Roughly Thirteen years, if posted on the right vessel, sir." Sytop said quietly.
"THIRTEEN YEARS?" The admiral repeated.
"Sir, the Romulans are not up to snuff enough to attack us yet. However, if we start her out in Intel, she may develop an anti-social response, as does most petite species when seperated from normal social interactiveness. Instead, put her on a science ship. By the time we are ready with our counter-attack plans, she will be itching for something. Probably something better. Let's set it up, so that she'll be itching to join our task force."
"Sytop... you are a genius. The Hood is in spacedock now. It needs crew. Offer it to her."

----------------------------------------------
"Points!" Lauren exclaimed with an incredibly over-sized smile on her face.
"Cadet... I've got... a proposition for you..." Sytop said quietly.
"Let's talk, points." She replied.
"Cadet, the Hood is in dock right now, and needs a few science officers. Starfleet is offering lieutenant if you take it." He said.
"You got it, Points." She said with a smile.
----------------------------------------------

----------------------------------------------
13 Years Later, USS Hood
----------------------------------------------
Admiral Morrow marched through the corridors, with a smile. 13 years. Almost exactly to the day, according to Sytop.
"Points!" Someone exclaimed from behind them.
Sytop turned around with a quick smirk.
"Laur!" He replied, watching the little bug flitter towards them.
That's when the admiral realized that the bug, was in fact Cadet of the year, 13 years ago.
"Lieutenant Van den Haus. Please come with us." The Admiral said casually.
The little bug-thing looked at Sytop, then at the admiral.
Sytop winked at her.
"You got it, sir." She said, flittering behind them with no resistance at all.
