HOUSTON U.S. immigration officers have arrested more than 2,000 illegal immigrants in a nationwide sweep, officials announced Wednesday.

First the announcement that the National Guard will be dispatched this week decreased illegal immigration by 10% and now the government's doing this. I must say that my view of the government on this issue is improving, albeit not by much, but still.

The National Guard job is survaillance and not law & enforcement I don't they will help out the border patrol by that much. A group of illegals could walk right past the national guard and the guards won't be able to arrest them because they no have jurisdiction. They need to make the guard have the power to arrest people in the border.

I believe there are a LOT more than that. 24,000,000 is the number I believe, and it's a lot more logical than the bogus number the government gives out.

I was watching O'Reilly and saw some national guardsman had moved away from the border and followed a car. They used racial profiling and pulled the car over. It was a mother and her children. She was an illegal that had been living there for 15 years(approx) and been working. Nothing more. They deported her, leaving the children who were born in America, to live with their aunts. First of all, those guardmen weren't even guarding the border. Second of all, they used racial profiling. Finally, I thought this was to route out all the illegals coming in. The drug traficors, etc. If I had known that it was to route out illegals that don't do anything but work and provide for their families, I wouldn't have supported this.

On a lighter note, it is good that illegals coming IN, are being stopped. Somewhat... if you're ok with the fact you're forcing them back into a crappy life under a corrupt government...

Yeah, I heard that story too, and I agree with you. But that story, mind you, is not part of this activity now. That was before it, but yeah, the racial profiling and everything...I heartily agree with you. That was wrong, entirely. For that the family should be reunited and allowed to remain in the country. Give the mother citizenship; I'm fine with that, in this case, because of how she was treated.
That isn't to say, though, that I'm angry that they weren't at the border. They were still doing their duty, and there was nothing wrong with them being off the border to apprehend illegals. The method, however, was entirely wrong.

As to the latter part, most of the people apprehended under Operation Return to Sender were deported once already, drug smugglers, gang members, etc. But either way, if you're found out, until we secure our borders and then come up with a policy for those here already, we need to do what the law requires, and if that means deport you, then okay. I'm not saying try to deport everyone by a long shot. Just if the government finds an illegal they should dole out the proper punishment. For instance, I'm tired of these sanctuary cities, like my state capital, that won't enforce the laws and are safe havens for illegals. I don't like that at all. But that's not to say that I like anything like the sad story you discussed, or mass deportation of all illegals in the country, and a hunt for them all. That's just too much.
All I'm for is the proper enforcement, both at and inside our borders. All I'm asking is that we all follow the law.
If you've been here for, say, 14 years, though...I'm not so sure about deporting you, under any circumstances. That's just such a long time and everything, so I think I'd be fine with not enforcing the law on you. I think we need enforcement, but not to such a level that it's cruel and inhuman.
