Wait. What, exactly, was the situation there? I'm talking about how they could have zoning laws AGAINST it if it's the wildlife they're worried about, or were worried about, there. That way they could stop the construction before it's even thought of.
That, sir, is the way to go about it, not forcing a business to leave after it's started working on setting up its operation, or is in the middle of its operation.

EDIT: Okay, Theresa, if Bangor did stop it before they started everything, that's pretty much fine with me.

Wal Mart isn't a slave operation. The employees can quit if they wish.

I had a lot of problems with the way Target treated me when I worked there; so I quit. It was their perogative, not mine. I was the employEE, they were they employER.

I like the way Wal Mart runs their business; they deliver great prices to the consumer, and offer a great one stop shop. I gladly shop at the WAL semi-weekly.

I completely understand where these people are coming from. There have been protests here about Tesco/Asda/Sainsbury's/Morrisons (the big four) destroying the high street in small towns. I'd much rather have access to a greengrocer, a fishmonger, a butcher and a baker than one large supermarket.

As for WalMart's business practices, maybe they should look at how they treat their staff here? Decent wages, decent hours, and flexible hours for those with responsibilities. Most people I know like working at Asda.

Me? I prefer what I would call the American Route. I prefer supermarkets and Wal-Marts and low prices over the local grocer or bakery. But that's just me.
And okay, so Wal-Mart has benefited from the evils of Eminant Domain. In my book, however, that makes as much difference as a firmly communist country allowing ONE story to be privately owned for the next 50 years. It doesn't matter if they've benefited from it before; unless they're members of the government that permit the thing (judges, etc.) it shouldn't be done.

Big huge supermarkets and such whos sole purpose is profit and not customer service isnt what I would call the American way. I also don't think Eminant Domain is really evil. Place like wal mart have to many times tried to out do, and over power the "little people" I say good for them for refusing to let them build there...
