Star Trek: Quest of the Prophets

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

Three years have passed since the devastating Dominion War...

The Alpha Quadrant had been left in ruins after the War...

However, after three years of reconstruction, things are looking up. Things in the Alpha Quadrant have changed since the Dominion War. An uneasy treaty had been made between the major powers of the Alpha Quadrant; the United Federation of Planets, the Klingon Empire, and the Romulan Star Empire, which would allow all of the Alpha Quadrant to rebuild in peace, without the fear of being attacked during said reconstruction. Luckily, for the time being, the truce has lasted. Each side watches the others warily as they rebuild their own territories, repairing the seemingly endless amount of damage caused by the Dominion...

Despite the devastation, Bajor has been thriving, as of late. With the help of the Federation, Bajor was able to rebuild, without any trouble. Despite the troubles that Bajor had recently gone through, things have never been better on the planet...

With the election of a new Kai approaching, people's spirits are high. Many people believe that Vedek Ungtae will be the one to win the prestigious position of Kai of the Bajoran faith. This is likely. Vedek Ungtae is a kind and gentle religious man, with a strong sense of religion. Ungtae is very popular with the Bajoran people. The people of Bajor love him. Many believe that Ungtae could help lead Bajor into a new era of peace...

Also, talks have begun, again, about Bajor finally joining the United Federation of Planets. If this occurs, Bajor would officially be a part of the Federation, with all of the resources, ships, and whatnot at its disposal. This would be good news for the still ill-prepared planet...

The election of the new Kai brings hope to Bajor. After the War and the events involving Gul Dukat and the former Kai of Bajor, Kai Winn Adami, people's faith had been strained. However, after the Emissary of the Prophets, Benjamin Sisko, had banished Dukat to the Fire Caverns, where his soul would be trapped, eternally, along with the Pah-Wraiths. Sadly, Adami had been killed in the process, but, those are the consequences for collaborating with the enemy. Shortly after, Benjamin Sisko left for the Bajoran Wormhole...to the Celestial Temple, Home of the Prophets, where he would live and learn with the Prophets until the time came to go home...back to the "real" world...

Still, as the big day approaches a group of people, the Cult of the Pah-Wraiths, who are still angry about the state of Bajor and the loss of their Emissary, Dukat, lurk, beneath the shadows, waiting for their chance to strike...to bring about the true Restoration of Bajor...

Also, trouble brews in the Federation, as well. A group of disgruntled Starfleet officers and their families have threatened to secede from the Federation, unless things change in the way the Federation runs. Most of these people are veterans of the Dominion War, who had lost everything in the war. They wished for better compensation for their efforts and for the necessary help to begin their lives anew. Some of them had just gone mad after the war and wish for another fight. However, most are for the first. They believe that the Federation is more intent on helping other planets, like Bajor, rather than helping those who actually need it the most; like the people of the Federation. These people have formed an anti-Federation group, known as the Union. These people have Federation weapons and starships at their disposal. No one in the Federation believes the Union's empty threats...but, they should.

Despite the peace that reigns over the Quadrant, things are about to fall apart...However, an old hero will be return, to save the day...

PREPARE TO EMBARK ON THE QUEST OF THE PROPHETS!!!

Notes: One of the most unique installations under Federation administration, Deep Space Nine started life as a Cardassian space station in orbit of the planet Bajor. Built in place by Bajoran slave labour during the Cardassian occupation of that planet, Terok Nor - as it was then known - served as a major administrative centre for the Cardassian forces as well as housing a large ore processing facility manned by Bajoran workers. The station has no Warp or Impulse drive and is not suited to towing; it was therefore considered essentially a fixed orbital base with a very limited ability to manoeuvre in space. When the Cardassian occupation ended, they therefore had to abandon Terok Nor and its sister station Empok Nor in place.
At this time the Bajoran provisional government had neither the equipment nor the experience to run a space station like Terok Nor. In addition the intentions of the Cardassian government regarding their sovereignty were unclear to them, so the Federation was asked to take over command of the station and operate it for the Bajoran people. Starfleet appointed Commander Benjamin Sisko to run the station and he assumed command in 2369. Initially the station - now renamed Deep Space Nine by the Federation - was intended to operate as little more than an orbital port facility. The outgoing Cardassian forces had rendered the ore processing systems non-functional, while many other major systems had been badly damaged.
Fate had other plans for DS9 however; within days of Commander Sisko taking over the station a wormhole was discovered nearby. An artificial anomaly created by a race of sentient beings, this wormhole is unique in being completely stable. Chief Miles O'Brien was able to modify the station's shield system to allow it to be moved at modest sub light speed, and DS9 was moved to the mouth of the wormhole where a Bajoran officer claimed the anomaly for the Bajoran government - over the objections of the Cardassians.
Subsequently, Deep Space Nine became a major stopping off point for traffic travelling to the Gamma Quadrant via the wormhole. The revenue generated by the station has been a great boon for the Bajoran economy, making both the station and the planet a major centre of trade and diplomacy in the region.
In 2370 the Dominion declared that the Gamma Quadrant end of the wormhole now belonged to them. In the brief battle that followed the Galaxy class USS Odyssey was destroyed. A subsequent Federation threat to destroy the wormhole if a Dominion fleet attempted to come through established a fragile stalemate. As the front line against this new threat, Deep Space Nine moved much higher on Starfleet's priority list. The USS Defiant was assigned to the station and Starfleet began to assign regular starship patrols to the area.
A comprehensive programme of upgrades to the station's own armament systems was also undertaken. The original Cardassian design mounted six phaser banks and six photon torpedo tubes on small towers on the Habitat Ring. Starfleet engineers installed a Rotary Weapon System on each tower - these carried phaser and photon torpedo weapons. An additional Fixed Weapon Emplacement on each tower also carried both phaser and photon torpedo weapons. In addition to this a set of Retractable Weapon Emplacements was installed on both the habitat ring and the Docking Pylons, also carrying phasers and photon launchers.
The station got the chance to use its new weapons system in anger almost the moment it was finished when Captain Sisko rescued the Cardassian leadership from the Klingon invasion. A Klingon taskforce under Chancellor Gowron attacked Deep Space Nine in order to capture the Cardassians. In the ensuing battle many Klingon warships where destroyed or severely damaged, although the heavy disruptor cannon of the Negh'Var where able to penetrate the stations shields sufficiently to land boarding parties. The arrival of Starfleet reinforcements forced the Klingons to stand down and withdraw back to Cardassian space, beginning several months of conflict with the Federation.
When the Dominion took over Cardassia and forced the Klingon fleet to retreat, Gowron reinstated the Khitomer Accords and a combined Federation-Klingon-Romulan fleet made a stand at Deep Space Nine against the expected Dominion assault. In the event, the situation proved to be a Dominion ruse designed to destroy the fleet along with the station and the rest of the system by detonating a trilithium device within the Bajoran sun. The attempt was unsuccessful, and an uneasy stand off against the Dominion ensued.
This situation lasted for less than a year; at the end of 2373 a massive Dominion fleet attacked DS9 in response to the Federation's mining of the wormhole exit. Although the station was overwhelmed and captured, the Federation crew under Captain Sisko were able to destroy over fifty Dominion vessels during the attack, and activate the minefield to block the wormhole. In addition, whilst the Dominion was occupied at DS9 a Federation-Klingon task force launched a major attack against a large Dominion shipyard in Cardassian space - destroying the yard, the ships in dock, the supporting facilities and supplies, and the small force assigned to defend the facilities.
Deep Space Nine remained in Dominion hands for some three months before a combined Federation-Klingon fleet was able to recapture it in the battle which has become known as "the valley of Death". The station remained under the command of Captain Sisko for the rest of the war, functioning as the home base of a Federation fleet.
Shortly after the war was concluded, Captain Sisko was able to stop the Pah-Wraiths from breaking out of their prison in the fire caves on Bajor. Sisko then joined the prophets in the wormhole, where he remains to this day. Colonel Kira took command of Deep Space Nine in his absence.

The OPAKA
(Bajoran Assault Vessel)

Name: Opaka
Type: Bajoran Assault Vessel
Unit Run: 50 approx.

Overall Strength Index: 73
Diplomatic Capability: None
Expected Hull Life: 50
Refit Cycle
Minor: 1 year
Standard: 1 years
Major: 5 years

Notes: The Bajoran assault vessel is designed for insystem use only, and possesses no warp drive. It fulfils general policing and patrol duties in the Bajoran system, and when necessary can be used to deploy troops from Bajor to other planets in the system. It is not a serious combat vessel by Starship standards.
In design the ship is relatively conventional, with an aerodynamic shape and wings which allow it to operate within a planetary atmosphere and carry out landings in order to deploy troops in environments hostile to transporter technology. The six phaser weapons provide all around coverage, and each is under the control of a gunner rather than being linked into a central firecontrol system.
This design was one of the first built by the Bajorans after the end of the Cardassian occupation, and its many shortcomings are understandable when seen in this light. Although Bajor has since acquired some more advanced alien vessel designs they also plan to upgrade these ships as part of the policy of building an self-contained defence capability. Few details are forthcoming on the proposed upgrades, but fitting some form of impulse engine or perhaps even a low speed warp drive is likely, along with weapons upgrades.

(NPC)

---------------------------------------------------------------------

Name: Benjamin Lafayette Sisko
Gender: Male
Species: Human
Born: 2332
Occupation: Starfleet Officer/Emissary of the Prophets
Rank: Captain
Family
Spouse(s)
Deceased: Jennifer Sisko
Current: Kasidy Yates-Sisko
Children
Son: Jake Sisko
Son: Marcus Sisko
Father: Joseph Sisko
Mother: Sarah Sisko
BIO: One of the most controversial Captains in Starfleet, Benjamin Lafayette Sisko had a fairly conventional early career. After graduating from Starfleet Academy he rose steadily through the ranks, becoming First Officer of the USS Saratoga by 2367. After his wife's death during this battle, Sisko was posted to the Utopia Planitia shipyards where he became a member of the Defiant project. After his posting in the Sol system was concluded he was assigned to the newly acquired Bajoran orbital station, dubbed Deep Space Nine by the Federation. At first Sisko resented this transfer, and considered resigning. He decided to remain as commander of the station after the discovery of the Bajoran Wormhole increased the importance of the station considerably.
As the discoverer of the Wormhole, Sisko is regarded by the Bajorans as "the Emissary", an important figure in the Bajoran religion. He has had to walk a fine line between this role and his Starfleet duties; when Bajor was finally accepted for Federation membership, Sisko used his position as Emissary to order the Bajorans to refuse to go through with the process. Although Sisko was suffering from mental illness at the time he refused to reverse his order once cured, convinced that his visions had a foundation in fact. Fortunately for the Sisko, his position as Emissary provides him with a certain level of political protection.
It is not just his actions as Emissary which have caused controversy. In 2371 Sisko intervened in the Klingon-Cardassian war, directly against a decision by the Federation council. He also violated the agreement between the Federation and the Romulan Empire concerning the use of the Defiant's cloaking device within the alpha quadrant while rescuing the Cardassian leadership from the Klingons. These actions led to the Klingon attack on Deep Space Nine and the subsequent Klingon-Federation conflict, which cost many thousands of lives on both sides.
Sisko lost command of Deep Space Nine when the station was captured by Dominion forces in 2372. He subsequently served as Captain of the Defiant for several months before being posted to Starbase 375 for a short period. Sisko subsequently led a fleet of 600 Starships in a successful attempt to recapture Deep Space Nine; he continued to serve as commander of the station after the third fleet was based there, and was a regular participant in fleet actions after this point.
In 2374 Gul Dukat, apparently acting under the influence of the Pah-Wraiths, sealed the Bajoran Wormhole and caused all of the orbs to darken. In the process Dukat murdered Jadzia Dax, a close friend of Sisko. The Captain took a leave of absence on Earth, and considered resigning from Starfleet. When the Prophets communicated with him Sisko felt compelled to search out the last remaining Orb - the Orb of the Emissary. He was successful in locating the Orb, and used it to reopen the Wormhole.
In 2375 Sisko became engaged to Kasidy Yates, and the two were married shortly before the end of the war. When the USS Defiant was destroyed during the Dominion's recapture of the Chin'toka system Sisko was assigned command of another vessel of the same class, the USS Sao Paulo, and given special dispensation to rename the vessel to USS Defiant. He commanded the ship in the last battle of the war, and was present when the Dominion signed the cease fire which ended the conflict
Shortly afterwards, Sisko confronted the possessed Dukat in the fire caves on Bajor. He was successful in defeating the Cardassian, sealing both Dukat and the Pah-Wraiths into the caves forever. Sisko himself was believed killed in the action, but he subsequently appeared in a vision to Kasidy Yates in which he said that he had fully accepted his position as Emissary and joined the Prophets in the Celestial Temple. Sisko indicated that he would return one day, although he could not say when this would be.

Name: Kira Nerys
Gender: Female
Species: Bajoran
Born: 2343
Occupation: Bajoran Militia
Rank: Colonel/Commander of DS9
Family
Father: Kira Taban
Mother: Kira Meru
Siblings
Brother: Kira Reon
Brother: Kira Pohl
BIO: As with many Bajoran women, Major Kira Nerys is a rather short-tempered character who is extremely forthright in her views. She frequently finds herself opposed to those in authority, and this has led to open defiance on some occasions - most notably during the her rescue of Li Nalas.
Kira led a typically difficult childhood under the Cardassian occupation. Her mother died when she was three, and by the age of twelve she had joined the Bajoran underground. She scored several successes during her time with the resistance, most notably when she planted a bomb which destroyed an entire wing of a Cardassian Generals residence. In 2365 she came to Deep Space Nine to befriend Vaatrik, a Cardassian collaborator, in order to secure a list of his associates. Vaatrik walked in on Kira while she was searching for the list, and she was forced to kill him. Although she was successful in evading prosecution for the murder, Constable Odo discovered the truth in 2370.
As first officer of Deep Space Nine, Kira has become more of a moderate. She began to overcome her hatred of the Cardassians in 2369, when she attempted to prosecute a Cardassian individual she took to be Gul Darhe'el. During the investigation Kira discovered that he was in fact Aamin Marritza, a file clerk who was impersonating Darhe'el in order to force the Cardassians to face up to the atrocities they had committed during the war. Later Kira forged a friendship with Legate Ghemor after the Obsidian Order attempted to convince her that she was really a Cardassian spy working as a Bajoran.
In 2372 Kira was in the Gamma Quadrant with Dr. Bashir and Keiko O'Brien when there was an accident on board the Runabout Volga. The pregnant Keiko was severely injured, and Dr. Bashir was forced to use a transporter to beam her unborn child into Kiras womb in order to save its life. Kira carried the child to full term and delivered a baby boy in 2373. In recognition of her actions the O'Briens named the child Kirayoshi.
Kira had long carried a subconscious attraction for Odo, and in 2374 the two became romantically involved. Their relationship was sometimes strained by the fact that he was a shape shifter, but they appeared to have overcame these difficulties. In 2375, however, Odo decided to return to the Great Link in order to try and show the Founders to trust solids and so enable the two sides to live together in peace. This marked the end of his relationship with Kira. When Captain Sisko went to live in the Celestial Temple Kira took command of Deep Space Nine, a position she retains today.

Name: Ezri Dax
Gender: Female
Species: Trill
Family
Mother: Yanas Tigan
Siblings
Brother: Norvo
Brother: Janel
BIO: Dax is one of the most famous and well respected of all Trill Symbionts. Over more than three centuries, Dax has accumulated nine lifetimes of memories and experience, and is now joined with its tenth host, Ezri.
Dax's first host was Lela, with whom it joined in the early twenty first century. Lela became one of the Trill home worlds leading politicians, and remained joined to the symbiont for nearly a century before finally dying in 2135. The next host was Tobin; a brilliant engineer and mathematician, Tobin discovered one of the most original known proofs of Fermat's last theorem. He was an introverted and deeply shy individual who never had much success with relationships, but he also carried the Dax symbiont for nearly a century before his death in 2230.
Dax was them transferred to Emony, a professional gymnast. Emony met with Lenoard McCoy shortly before he entered Starfleet medical school, and the two had a brief affair. In 2245 Emony died, passing the symbiont on to Audrid. Initially a scientist specializing in Trill physiology, Audrid eventually became an administrator and rose to the head of the Symbiosis Commission, one of the most renowned positions in Trill society. She died in 2284, Dax's last female host for over eighty years.
After Audrid's death the Dax symbiont was joined with Torias, a test pilot. Something of a daredevil, Torias was only joined for a few months before he was killed in a shuttle accident. The Dax symbiont was subsequently placed into Joran, a musician. However, Joran proved to be mentally unstable and was responsible for several murders while joined. The fact that such an unstable mind was able to successfully join with a symbiont would have proved to the Trill population a fact that the symbiosis commission had secretly known for years; namely that more than half of all Trills are suitable for joining, rather than the tiny fraction generally claimed. Fearful that the relatively rare symbionts would become commodities to be bought and sold if this information leaked, the symbiosis commission placed a memory block in the mind of Dax, blanking out all knowledge of the Joran host, and joined it with Curzon.
Curzon was one of the most well known of the Dax hosts; a Federation negotiator, he was very fond of the Klingon lifestyle and immersed himself in their traditions and culture - even becoming Godson to a Klingon child. He was a notable figure in the Khitomer peace conference of 2293, and went on to play a crucial role in many of the various treaties and alliances between the Federation and the Klingon Empire.
Like many joined Trill, Curzon served as a mentor in the initiate program where he was assigned to Jadzia. Curzon was secretly in love with Jadzia, and fearing that she would discover this and reject him he forced her out of the programme altogether. Jadzia later reapplied and successfully completed the initiate programme, the first person to do so after being rejected. Regretting his actions, Curzon later requested that the Dax symbiont be passed on to Jadzia when he died, q and this was done in 2367.
A Starfleet officer, Jadzia was assigned to Deep Space Nine as science officer in 2369. She served there for five years, participating in many of the important events in which the station was involved. In 2371 the memory block imposed on Dax by the symbiosis commission began to degrade, and the memories of Joran began to reassert themselves. Under the guise of treating hallucinations, Doctor Renhol of the symbiosis commission attempted to murder Jadzia in order to keep the secret but Captain Sisko was able to uncover the truth and threatened Renhol with exposure if Jadzia didn't survive. Jadzia subsequently decided to keep the fact that most Trills where eligible for joining a secret in order to preserve Trill society.
In 2373 Jadzia was murdered by Gul Dukat during his attempt to destroy the Bajoran Wormhole. The Dax symbiont was rushed back to Trill, but a medical emergency occurred during the voyage. Faced with the death of Dax if it failed to join with another host, the doctors talked an unprepared Trill, Ezri Tigan, into a joining she was unprepared for. The joining caused great confusion for Ezri, who was often unaware of her own age or gender, but she eventually settled down somewhat. Her family also found it difficult to accept the transition when Ezri returned home in 2375 to enlist their help in finding Chief O'Brien, who had vanished on their planet whilst investigating the Orion Syndicate.
Ezri retained some of Jadzia's romantic feelings for Worf, but the two eventually decided to go their separate ways. She became involved with Doctor Bashir, and the two became a couple shortly before the end of the Dominion War. She remains on Deep Space Nine as a Counselor.

Name: Worf, Son of Mogh
Gender: Male
Species: Klingon
Born: 2340
Family
Parents
Father: Mogh (biological)
Father: Sergey Rozhenko (foster)
Mother: Helena Rozhenko (foster)
Siblings
Brother: Kurn (biological)
Brother: Nikolai Rozhenko (foster)
Marital Status
K'Ehleyr
(mate, deceased)
Jadzia Dax
(wife, deceased)
Son: Alexander Rozhenko
BIO: Worf, son of Mogh, was born in 2340 on the Klingon home world. His father was head of the house of Mogh, one of the most important and powerful of all Klingon houses at the time. Shortly before his seventh birthday Worf's father took him to the Khitomer colony; while they where there the Romulans attacked the colony with the help of a traitor on the surface, killing almost everybody there. Although Mogh himself was killed, Worf survived and was rescued by a Starfleet crewman from the Excelsior-class USS Intrepid. When inquiries by Starfleet failed to turn up any direct family for Worf the crewman, a propulsion specialist named Sergei Rozhenko, adopted the child and raised it as his own.
Worf had a difficult childhood; his adoptive parents lived on Gault, a farm colony world with less than 20,000 inhabitants. His parents tried to allow him to find his own middle ground between Human and Klingon culture, but Worf encountered many difficulties. He was regarded as an outsider by other children and was frequently involved in fights. In an attempt to fit in he joined a soccer team, but when he was thirteen he caused the death of an opponent during a match. The experience traumatized Worf; he became a much more restrained person, losing most of his passion for life.
In 2357 Worf joined Starfleet academy, the first Klingon to do so. He graduated in 2361 as an officer, much to the dismay of his non-commissioned father. By 2364 he was a bridge officer on the USS Enterprise-D. With the death of Tasha Yar, Worf was promoted to chief of security on the Federation flagship in 2365.
In 2366 Worf fathered a son with Keylehr, a half-klingon half-human woman who was acting as a Federation negotiator. Keylehr was murdered by Duras, whom Worf killed in turn.
Later in this year evidence was uncovered that it was Worf's father who had betrayed the Klingons at Khitomer. Worf investigated and discovered that it was in fact Duras who had been the traitor; however, the Duras family was still a powerful force in the Klingon Empire with many supporters. Exposing the house to shame risked a civil war, so Worf agreed to take the blame onto his own house and accept discommendation for the good of the Empire. This situation persisted for over a year; late in 2367 the Duras family, now led by Lursa and B'Etor, attempted to seize control of the Klingon Empire before Gowron could be properly installed as Chancellor. Whilst Worf was on board the attack cruiser IKS Bortas he served as a tactical officer during a battle with some vessels loyal to Duras. During the battle Kurn saved the Bortas from destruction; in return for their help Gowron restored the honour of the House of Mogh.
When Starfleet refused to involve itself in what appeared to be an internal matter, Worf chose to resign his commission in order to fight alongside Gowron. Captain Picard discovered indications that the Romulans where supplying military aid to the Duras family; he led a Federation fleet to blockade the Klingon/Romulan border. With their support cut off the Duras family was quickly defeated by Gowron. Once the crisis was past, Worf returned to Starfleet and assumed his old position on the Enterprise-D early in 2368.
In 2371 Worf was promoted to Lieutenant Commander shortly before the Enterprise-D was destroyed. He subsequently took an extended leave to visit the Klingon world of Boreth. Later he was posted to Deep Space Nine, and was involved in the hostilities between the Federation, Klingon Empire and Cardassia which took place at this time. For his actions against the Klingon Empire Gowron once again discommended the House of Mogh.
Whilst on DS9 Worf fell in love with Lieutenant Commander Jadzia Dax. Despite a somewhat stormy relationship the two where married in 2373, but some months afterwards Dax was murdered by Gul Dukat. Worf struggled with his feelings for Dax when Ezri came to work on the station, but the two eventually agreed to end their relationship and stay friends.
Worf fought in several battles against the Dominion during the war. In the final stages of the war he became disillusioned with Gowron's leadership of the Klingon forces, and challenged him to personal combat. Worf killed Gowron but declined the leadership of the council in favour of General Martok. After the end of the war Martok gained revenge by asking that Worf be appointed as Federation Ambassador to the Klingon Empire.

Name: Miles Edward O'Brien
Gender: Male
Species: Human
Born: September 2328
Family
Father: Michael O'Brien
Children
Daughter: Molly
Son: Kirayoshi
Wife: Keiko O'Brien
BIO: Chief Petty Officer Miles Edward O'Brien is one of the most experienced of Deep Space Nine's crew, with a Starfleet career spanning twenty five years. He joined at the age of eighteen as an enlisted man. As a child he enjoyed building models of all kinds, including ships in bottles, model starships, and subspace transceivers. His father also made him practice playing the cello every day, and when he was seventeen his father sent a recorded audition to the Aldeberan Music Academy. He was delighted when Miles was accepted, but Miles had second thoughts and joined Starfleet two days before he was due to leave. His father was furious until he realised how badly Miles wanted to join. By 2370 his father was introducing Miles proudly as "Senior Chief Specialist Miles Edward O'Brien."
Early in his career O'Brien served on board the USS Rutledge under Captain Maxwell while that ship was involved in the Setlik massacre. Whilst on Setlik, O'Brien was in a room full of survivors when a Cardassian soldier entered. A woman in the room threw him a phaser which he fired at the Cardassian; unfortunately, the phaser had been set to kill and O'Brien vaporized the man. Up to this time O'Brien had never purposely harmed anything - he was even squeamish about killing insects - and the trauma of the event left him with a deep-seated dislike of the Cardassians who had forced him to become a killer. It was at Setlik that Miles first found that he had an aptitude for engineering; with the Cardassians advancing on his position he managed to repair a field transporter in less than ten minutes and evacuate thirteen men. Miles also displayed his tactical skill when he led two dozen men in a counter-attack against the Barrica encampment, driving out an entire regiment of Cardassian troops.
O'Brien's best friend, Raymond Boone, was captured by the Cardassians during Setlik. Unknown to Starfleet, Boone was actually killed and replaced with a Cardassian agent who had been extensively altered to resemble a human and given a false identity. This Boone later joined the Maquis and framed O'Brien for the theft of photon warheads from DS9. O'Brien was convicted of the crime under the Cardassian legal system, but was released when Commander Sisko threatened to reveal Boone's true identity in order to embarrass the Cardassian government.
O'Brien was a member of the Enterprise-D crew when the ship was launched. He served in various departments, including the conn position and tactical - but he was most commonly found in the transporter room.
His dislike of the Cardassians would rise to the surface when the Enterprise assisted the Cardassians in locating the USS Phoenix after Captain Maxwell began launching unprovoked attacks on their shipping. Maxwell had finally given in to his own hatred of the Cardassians, who he believed were preparing to start another war with the Federation. Miles finally began to deal with his own feelings when he talked Maxwell out of further action.
Whilst aboard the Enterprise Miles met Keiko Ishikawa, a civilian botanist. The two married in 2367 and had their first child the following year.
In 2368 O'Brien transferred to Deep Space Nine as Chief of Operations. Shortly after arriving he received a black mark on his record when he helped a Tosk to escape captivity on the station, violating the Prime Directive. On a visit to Bajor he found himself being forced to assume the position of Sirah, religious leader of a Bajoran village community, when the previous holder of the title died whilst he was visiting. Fortunately he was able to quickly pass the post on to somebody else.
In 2370 Miles was abducted by the Paradans whilst assisting in the setting up of a peace conference. An identical replicant was substituted for him whilst he was held captive. The replicant had all of O'Brien's memories and personality, and actually believed he was the real thing. The Deep Space Nine crew engaged in an elaborate deception to play along with the substitution whilst they investigated, but the replicant became suspicious. Thinking that everybody else had been subverted in some way he made his way back to the Paradan home world where he managed to find the original Miles before being killed.
O'Brien is one of the few Starfleet personnel to maintain a successful marriage, although his relationship with Keiko has often been strained badly by the pressures of living and working on Deep Space Nine. Keiko eventually accepted a position on a botanical survey team on Bajor, and the two lived apart for some time.
Like many Deep Space Nine personnel, O'Brien initially disliked Doctor Bashir. In 2370 the Kellerun and T'Lani attempted to murder the two after they helped to destroy the Harvester weapons which the species had developed. Both sides hoped to destroy the knowledge of how to build the weapons by killing all those involved with both their original construction and their eventual destruction. O'Brien and Bashir grew closer during the incident. They eventually grew to be good friends, sharing many hours playing racquetball and darts and recreating events such as the Battle of Britain and the Battle of the Alamo in Quark's holosuites.
O'Brien was killed in 2371 when a bizarre set of circumstances caused him to repeatedly jump through time. Another, apparently identical O'Brien from an alternate timeline took his place and has continued to serve on the station ever since.
Miles' second child was almost killed before birth when Keiko suffered an accident whilst in a Runabout. Doctor Bashir was able to save the child by beaming it to Major Kira's womb, where it gestated before being born in 2373. In 2374 O'Brien was holidaying with his family on the planet Golana when his daughter Molly fell through an ancient time portal. He was able to get her back through the portal, but inaccuracies in the device meant that the Molly who returned was ten years older. Molly found it impossible to readjust to life on the station, so O'Brien returned her to the portal and sent her back through again. She emerged just an instant after her earlier self arrived, and sent the child straight back through. The original version of Molly was thus returned, but the older version erased herself from history with this action.
Miles and Dax implemented Rom's idea for a field of cloaked self-replicating mines to prevent Dominion ships from coming through the Bajoran Wormhole in 2373, an action which sparked the Dominon war. He fought many battles during the war, either aboard the Defiant or in ground combat. Miles was frustrated by the Dominion's initial success in the war and was glad to be able to strike a blow against the Founders by destroying a Ketracel White production facility using a captured Dominion warship. He would go on to participate in many of the decisive battles of the war, most notably including the mission to retake Deep Space Nine, the invasion of the Chin'toka system, the attack on the Monac shipyards, the later retreat from that system, and the eventual advance on Cardassia itself. He also served at least one mission for Starfleet Intelligence in which he penetrated the Orion Syndicate on Farius Prime thanks to a friendship he struck up with Liam Bilby. The Syndicate was working with the Dominion to assassinate the Klingon ambassador, a mission O'Brien was able to prevent. He also uncovered a Dominion agent within Starfleet thanks to information from Bilby. Miles would eventually travel to New Sydney to locate Bilby's widow, worried that the Syndicate might blame her for her husband's failure. He fell foul of the Syndicate himself whilst on the planet, but Ezri Dax was able to use her family connections on the planet to secure his release.
Miles felt that his friends had drifted apart during the conflict, distancing themselves as a way of protecting against the possibility that they might lose friends. The death of Lisa Cusak made him rethink this, and he appealed to his friends to provide more emotional support to one another.
In 2375 Miles was offered a teaching post at Starfleet Academy once the war ended. He accepted, and soon after the final battle of the war the O'Brien family left Deep Space Nine for good.

Name: Julian Subatoi Bashir
Gender: Male
Species: Human
Born: 2341
Occupation: Starfleet Officer
Rank: Lieutenant Commander
Family
Father: Richard Bashir
Mother: Amsha Bashir
Blood Type: B negative

Julian Bashir was born with a substantially subnormal IQ due to a genetic defect, a fact which caused his parents considerable worry. Unable to have the problem treated in the Federation due to the ban on Genetic Engineering, they took Bashir to an alien hospital at an early age and had him artificially enhanced. As a result of this Bashir gained an extremely high level of intelligence. The young Bashir was a very keen tennis player, and with the enhanced hand-to-eye co-ordination his genetic engineering had given him he was of professional level. However, he suffered from some degree of guilt concerning his 'unfair' advantage and never really pursued his tennis career; this subconscious attempt to deny himself success is a theme which would recur several times during his life.
In any case, since repairing a teddy bear as a child his first love had always been medicine and he abandoned tennis to join Starfleet. Given the ban on genetically enhanced humans within the service, Bashir was forced to cover up his past when he joined. In the Academy Bashir was amongst the top of his class, but in his final exam he mistook a pre-ganglionic fibre for a post-ganglionic nerve - despite the fact that these are nothing alike - and ended up second overall. Two years after graduation Bashir was assigned to DS9; on the way to the station he met Jadzia Dax and instantly felt a strong attraction. Once again he held himself back, and ended up settling for friendship with Jadzia.
In 2371 Bashir disturbed a Lethean who was robbing his infirmary. The Lethian launched a telepathic attack against the Doctor, putting him into a coma within which he suffered from nightmares caused by his subconscious. Bashir survived the attack, and ultimately emerged from it with a greater acceptance of himself.
His past finally caught up with him in 2373, when he was chosen as the template for the new Long-term Medical Hologram being designed by Doctor Zimmerman. Zimmerman conducted detailed interviews with all of Bashir's friends and invited his parents to the station; whilst on board they let the truth about his genetic enhancement slip. Bashir father agreed to serve a two year prison sentence if Bashir was allowed to continue in the service; since this time Bashir has become much more secure with himself and has even began to assist with the treatment of patients whose genetic engineering has not been successful.
In 2374 a secret organization named Section 31 attempted to recruit Bashir. He later discovered that Section 31 had created a disease which had infected Odo and, through him, the rest of the Great Link. Bashir was able to trick Sloan, a Section 31 operative, into coming to Deep Space Nine so that he could use a mind probe to find the cure. Although Sloan killed himself during the procedure, Bashir was able to get the information he wanted and use it to cure the Founders.
Bashir and Ezri Dax were strongly attracted to one another, and shortly before the end of the war they became a couple. Both remain on Deep Space Nine.

Full Name: Odo'ital (literally: 'Nothing' in Cardassian language)
Nickname: Odo
Species: Changeling
Date of Discovery: 2337 in the Denorios Belt, Bajor system
Position/Rank: Former Chief of Security, Bajoran Militia, DS9 detachment (informal: Constable)
BIO: Variously known as Shape-shifters, Changelings or Founders, Odo's people are one of the most intriguing life forms ever encountered by the Federation. Their natural state is that of a viscous liquid which has no apparent internal structure, no organs or other biological systems. Nevertheless it is capable of a massive degree of flexibility; by a simple act of will Odo is able to alter his shape, surface texture, volume, and even his mass. The alterations of shape and texture have been observed in several other shape changing species such as the Chameloids.
Alteration of mass is rather more difficult and how this apparently impossible feat is accomplished remains something of a mystery. Some have suggested that the Changelings are multi-dimensional beings who exist mostly outside our own space-time. According to this theory the being we see as a Changeling would comprise only a small portion of the whole; by moving more of less of itself into this universe the Changeling would be able to alter its apparent volume and mass. In theory this would allow them to withdraw themselves from our universe completely, giving them effective invisibility and the ability to pass through walls or other barriers. In fact, Changelings have never demonstrated this ability and so if the theory is true there must be some inherent limitation on the degree of this multidimensional ability.
In 2371 Odo accompanied the USS Defiant on a mission to the Gamma Quadrant. Whilst there he found himself irresistibly drawn to the Omarian Nebula, where he discovered the home world of his people. It transpired that the Changelings were the infamous Founders of the Dominion, which they had created in order to insulate themselves from the prejudice they had encountered from those they call "The Solids". Odo refused to join the Founders, although during the Dominions occupation of Deep Space Nine he did waver in his loyalties considerably.
Odo has long held a romantic attraction for Colonel Kira, but for many years he kept this a secret because he feared rejection. In 2373 his feelings were finally revealed during the Defiant's encounter with an alternate timeline version of Odo, but he still made no attempt to pursue a relationship until the following year when the hologram Vic Fontaine pushed the pair into confronting their true feelings. Odo and Kira finally became involved, and remained a couple until the end of 2375.
In 2375 Odo began to display signs of a serious illness. Doctor Bashir discovered that he had been deliberately infected with a terminal disease by Section 31; during his time in the Great Link Odo had passed the disease on to the rest of the Founders, infecting the entire species. Bashir was able to develop a cure for the disease, and in the final stages of the war Odo passed the cure onto the female Founder in order to convince her that solids could be trusted. She agreed to stand trial for her crimes, and in return Odo agreed to go back through the wormhole and cure the rest of the Great Link. This marked the end of Odo's relationship with Colonel Kira.

Name: Nog
Gender: Male
Species: Ferengi
Occupation: Chief Engineer of DS9
Rank: Lieutenant
Born: 2353
Family
Mother: Prinadora
Father: Rom
BIO: Son of Rom, Nog spent his early years on Ferenginar before moving to Deep Space Nine with his father. He became a petty thief, but his friendship with Jake Sisko was a positive influence on him. When Nog's father forbade him from attending school, Jake taught him to read. Nog was desperate not to end up a failure like his father, and after undergoing the Ferengi Attainment Ceremony he asked Commander Sisko to support his enrolment into Starfleet. Sisko did so, and Nog began to study the Academy Preparatory Program despite the objections of his uncle Quark. In 2372 Nog sold his possessions and went to Earth with Quark and Rom. Unfortunately their shuttle underwent a temporal accident, throwing it into the year 1947 and causing it to crash-land at Roswell, New Mexico. The landing of three Ferengi caused considerable disruption in the area, but local authorities covered the story up by claiming that a weather balloon had crashed and eventually they were able to escape and return to their own time.
Nog returned to Deep Space Nine for field study in 2373. He was awarded a battlefield promotion to Ensign during the war, during which he frequently served aboard the Defiant. He briefly served as Chief Engineer aboard the Defiant-class USS Valiant due to the great shortage of regular crewmembers aboard that vessel. Later on he became a helm officer aboard the Defiant itself, gaining much combat experience in the last stages of the war.
When Defiant crewmembers helped to support a Federation force at a captured Dominion relay station on AR-558 Nog acted as a scout, his superb Ferengi hearing a useful tool in that role. Unfortunately he was shot by a Jem'Hadar weapon and had to have his leg amputated. Nog struggled with the trauma he had undergone, but thanks to advice from the hologram Vic Fontaine he managed to come to terms with his injuries and return to active duty.
Nog performed so well during the final battles of the war that Captain Sisko ordered him promoted to Lieutenant as one of his final actions before joining the Prophets in the Bajoran wormhole.

Name: Rom
Gender: Male
Species: Ferengi
Born: Mid-2330s
Family
Mother: Ishka
Father: Keldar (deceased)
Brother: Quark
Spouse(s)
Wife: Prinadora (divorced)
Wife: Leeta (current)
Children: Nog
BIO: Brother to Quark and father to Nog, Rom spent his early life as something of a failure. He married his first wife, Prindora, with a five year contract. When he fell in love with her he signed an extension without reading the small print, and her father was able to swindle him of all his money. Quark tended to treat him poorly, underpaying him and constantly belittling his intelligence.
When Quark was promoted to Grand Nagus Rom served as his bodyguard. He planned to assassinate Quark, but the plot failed when the previous Nagus Zek proved to still be alive. Quark promoted Rom to assistant manager for policy and clientele as a result of this initiative.
In 2372 Rom formed a worker's union from the staff at Quark's bar. Although the Ferengi FCA destroyed the union shortly afterwards, Rom was able to force an unofficial deal for better working conditions. Flushed with his success, Rom left the bar and became a diagnostic and repair technician for Deep Space Nine. He soon proved to be an excellent engineer who was invaluable in keeping the station running.
In 2371 when Nog petitioned to join Starfleet, Rom was very supportive of the idea. His son's success became a source of considerable pride for Rom.
In 2373 Rom established a romantic relationship with Leeta, a dabo girl at Quark's bar, and the two eventually planned to get married. Rom worried that Leeta might also be after him for his money, and wanted her to sign a 'waiver of property and profit' - a Ferengi prenuptial agreement. Leeta refused, threatening their relationship, but Rom solved the dilemma by donating all of his money to the Bajoran war orphan's fund, so allowing him to be secure in the knowledge that Leeta must be marrying for love. The two were eventually married by the Emissary shortly before the station fell to the Dominion.
Rom was a major contributor to the war effort - he came up with the concept for the cloaked self-replicating minefield which allowed the Federation to prevent the Dominion from bringing reinforcements through the wormhole whilst the station was in Dominion hands. Rom stayed on Deep Space Nine during the occupation as a Federation spy. He was arrested for attempting to sabotage the deflector array, but eventually escaped and ultimately was able to disable the weapons array before the allied fleet arrived, allowing the station to be retaken without a fight.
Rom was very progressive for a Ferengi, and supported Grand Nagus Zek's reforms of Ferengi society. His support led to him being appointed as Grand Nagus when Zek retired, much to Quark's dismay

Name: Elim Garak
Gender: Male
Species: Cardassian
Family
Father: Enabran Tain
Occupations
Tailor
Spy
Assassin
Horticulturist
BIO: Data regarding Garak must be regarded as entirely suspect; virtually the only thing known with certainty about Deep Space Nine's tailor is that he is an expert liar who is fond of sayings such as "The truth is just an excuse for a lack of imagination".
It was long suspected that Garak had some sort of connection with the Cardassian government, and that he remained on Deep Space Nine after the Cardassian withdrawal from Bajor because he had been exiled from his own planet for political reasons. He eventually confessed that he had been a member of the Obsidian Order, the Cardassian intelligence service and secret police. It appeared that he had been a leading member of the organization, but that he had been exiled after its leader, Enabren Tain, had become convinced that Garak had betrayed him - an accusation Garak hotly denied.
Garak had volunteered to have a cranial implant whilst working for the Obsidian Order. Once he was left on Deep Space Nine he took to using the device more and more in order to allow him to tolerate the Human-standard environmental conditions there, until he eventually turned it on and left it on. The device finally malfunctioned in 2370, leaving Garak suffering from severe withdrawal symptoms. Dr. Julian Bashir, who had come to regard himself as a friend of Garak's, helped him through this period but was disturbed by the tales of torture and brutality that Garak told him about his actions during the occupation of Bajor. Garak claimed that he had betrayed and murdered his partner Elim because he had shown mercy to the Bajorans, but on investigating his past closer Bashir found that Elim was actually Garak's first name. After his recovery Garak refused to clarify his ramblings any further.
In 2371 Tain allowed Garak to return to the Obsidian order, an opportunity the tailor greeted with enthusiasm. When he was ordered to torture Odo for information about the Founders prior to the joint Obsidian Order / Tal'shiar assault against their home world, Garak was less enthusiastic but forced himself to complete his task. Once the attack itself began Garak realized that his true loyalties no longer lay with the Order, and helped Odo to escape before the fleet was destroyed by the Jem'Hadar.
When a message, apparently from Tain, was received through the wormhole Garak and Worf attempted a rescue mission to release his former mentor from a Dominion prison camp. Unfortunately, they were quickly captured themselves. Garak found Tain close to death in the prison, and the two managed a reconciliation shortly before Tain's death - a moment rendered more emotive for Garak because Tain finally admitted that Garak was in fact his son.
Garak had a long standing hatred of Gul Dukat, but nevertheless developed a close friendship with his daughter Ziyal during her time on Deep Space Nine. He was deeply saddened when Ziyal was killed by Damar during Starfleet's recapture of the station for assisting in the Dominion's loss.
Once the station was back in Starfleet hands Garak served Starfleet as a code-breaker, assisting in various operations. When the allies launched began the invasion of Cardassian space, Garak began to suffer signs of a mental breakdown as a result of the stress involved in helping with the extermination of his own people. With the assistance of Ezri Dax, Garak was able to face up to the burden he was under and regain a measure of composure.
As the war neared its end Garak travelled to Cardassia with Colonel Kira in order to assist the Cardassian underground. During the last hours of the fighting he took part in a raid on the Founder's headquarters in which he killed the final Weyoun clone and captured the Founder herself, thus helping to set up her meeting with Odo and ending the war before the final battle. Garak remained on Cardassia after the war to assist in rebuilding the planet's shattered society.

Name: S.G. Dukat
Gender: Male
Species: Cardassian
Born: Unknown
"Died": 2375
Family
Father: Justice Procal
Children
Seven children (by his Cardassian wife), including Mekor; Tora Ziyal (by Tora Naprem), another child by Mika
Occupation: Former ruler of Cardassia
Rank: Gul/Legate/Emissary of the Pah-Wraiths
BIO: One of the most enigmatic figures in the Alpha Quadrant, Gul Dukat first came to prominence during the Cardassian occupation of the Bajor system. Ambitious even by Cardassian standards, Dukat rose to become commander of the Terok Nor orbital refinery and prefect of Bajor itself. The Bajorans regarded Dukat as one of the most hated men alive, and many attempts were made on his life during this period. Dukat, by contrast, viewed himself rather differently. He considered Cardassians to be a superior form of life to Bajorans, and thus thought that they had a natural right to rule Bajor. Given this, Dukat expected the Bajorans to accept and even welcome Cardassian rule and seemed genuinely puzzled when they did not. Indeed, since he claimed that he made every effort to minimize civilian casualties during the occupation Dukat honestly seemed to expect the Bajorans to respond to him as a father figure, and occasionally protested that there were no monuments to him on the planet after the end of the occupation.
After the discovery of the Bajoran wormhole Dukat openly favoured another Cardassian invasion of the system, eager to regain his old position. Although he retained his condescending attitude toward the Bajorans, he was able to deal with the Federation - and especially Commander Sisko - relatively successfully, presumably because he could more easily accept them as equals. In 2371 The military government of Cardassia was overthrown by a popular uprising, and Dukat became the chief military advisor to the ruling Detapa council. The following year he and Major Kira were successful in finding the remains of the Ravinok, missing since 2366 along with Dukat's daughter Tora Ziyal. Dukat planned to kill the child, who was half Bajoran, but found himself unable to do so when confronted with her. He instead returned to Cardassia with Ziyal, hoping to integrate her into his life. Instead his family disowned him and the Detapa Council demoted him and placed him in command of an old freighter, a humiliating assignment for the ambitious Gul.
Dukat served on the freighter for some months before he was able to capture a Klingon Bird of Prey with the assistance of Major Kira. Leaving Ziyal in Kira's care on Deep Space Nine, Dukat set about using his new ship to harass to Klingon forces which had invaded Cardassia some months earlier. Towards the end of the year Dukat used his ship to assist Captain Sisko in infiltrating Klingon space to discover the identity of a Founder who was suspected of infiltrating the Klingon government. Dukat was not satisfied with commanding a single ship, however, and in 2373 he began secret negotiations with the Dominion. They agreed to install him as ruler of Cardassia if he delivered it into Dominion hands, a deal which he soon fulfilled. The Dominion fleet quickly repelled the Klingon invaders and then attempted to destroy the Bajoran system after luring Federation, Klingon and Romulan forces there. The attempt failed, but Dukat was determined to regain possession of the station.
His next chance came when Starfleet ordered the wormhole entrance mined to prevent further Dominion ships coming through. Dukat led a fleet to the station to prevent the operation. Although he was able to capture the station, Captain Sisko was able to both activate the minefield and destroy fifty of the attacking ships before evacuating. While the Dominion was busy at Deep Space Nine a Federation-Klingon task force was also able to destroy some Dominion shipyards.
Dukat's command of Dominion forces in the first few months of the war led to some heavy losses being inflicted on the Allied fleets, but eventually Sisko was able to convince Starfleet to launch an all out attack on Deep Space Nine and this succeeded in recapturing the station with the help of both a small band of resistance fighters on board the station and the Bajoran Prophets within the wormhole. Glinn Damar killed Dukat's daughter Ziyal for assisting the rebels in the recapture, an action which led to Dukat suffering a nervous breakdown. He was captured by Federation forces, but along with Captain Sisko was marooned on an uninhabited planet when the ship taking him to stand trial was destroyed by Dominion forces. During their time on the planet Dukat told Sisko that one of the greatest regrets of his life was that he had not wiped out the Bajorans before the end of the occupation. Sisko came to realize that Dukat was both truly evil and completely insane, but was unable to prevent him from escaping after promising to destroy Bajor once and for all.
To accomplish his plan Dukat became a willing servant of the Pah-Wraiths. He allowed one of the aliens to posses his body, and in this form he murdered Jadzia Dax whilst breaking into the Bajoran temple on Deep Space Nine. Dukat used the temples Orb to seal the wormhole, provoking a crisis of faith on Bajor. Fortunately, Sisko was able to use the Orb of the Emissary to reopen the wormhole some months later.
Dukat continued his attempts to serve the Pah-Wraiths, and in 2375 he disguised himself as a Bajoran and managed to worm his way into the affections of Kai Winn. He convinced Winn that the pah-wraiths were the true gods of Bajor, and together they attempted to free them from the fire caves of Bajor. Dukat was confronted by Captain Sisko in the caves, and although he succeeded in releasing a pah-wraith the Emissary was able to defeat Dukat and imprison him forever along with his masters.

Full Name: Jake Sisko
Gender: Male
Species: Human
Born: 2355
Occupations
Federation News Service Correspondent
Author
Family
Father: Benjamin Sisko
Mother: Jennifer Sisko
Step-Mother: Kasidy Yates
Brother: Marcus Sisko
BIO: Son of captain Benjamin Sisko and Jennifer Sisko, Jake was born in 2355. As a child he was traumatised by the death of his mother at the battle of Wolf 359 whilst his father was posted on the USS Saratoga. After the battle Jake moved to the Utopia Fleet yards for several years before moving to Deep Space Nine with his father. He was disappointed at the poor standard of accommodation on the station and the relative lack of people his own age though he did become good friends with Nog, who he taught to read. Jake and Nog eventually moved in together when Nog returned to the station from Starfleet Academy.
Ben always assumed that Jake would join Starfleet Academy, but Jake did not see himself as a Starfleet officer and he refused to make the attempt. He loved to write, and saw this as a possible career for himself. He was accepted to the Pennington school for writing but did not attend. He took a job with the Federation News Service, reporting on life on Deep Space Nine and the events of the Klingon and Dominion wars. During the Klingon war Jake was stranded with Dr. Bashir on a Federation-occupied planet which was under attack by the Klingons. Jake found it extremely difficult to cope with the pressures of combat. He panicked on two occasions when under fire, and began to think of himself as a coward. After being rescued Jake wrote an honest account of his actions and emotions, something which his father commented was in itself an act of great bravery.
Jake shared his fathers strong fondness for baseball and the two regularly played together in the stations holosuites. On one notable occasion Buck Bokai followed Jake out of the holosuite having apparently come to life in actual fact this was a result of interference from aliens who were studing the Human concept of imagination. When Ben was depressed at the events leading up to the Dominion war Jake and Nog went to considerable lengths to obtain a Willie Mays baseball card as a birthday present for him. Not only did this succeed in cheering Ben up, but the various dealings they had to go through to obtain the card raised morale on the entire station. He also played as part of the Deep Space Niners baseball team.
When the station fell to the Dominion Jake remained on board and continued to try and report from there, though he ran into problems with censorship. This decision greatly angered his father, but it did force him to confront the fact that his son was now old enough to make his own decisions, and in some ways this marked Jakes final progression to adulthood.
Jake was chosen by the Pah-Wraiths as their representative in the Reckoning, a confrontation with the Prophets which was to take place on Deep Space Nine. His father declined to interrupt the battle, trusting that the Prophets would not allow his son to come to harm. However, the Reckoning was interrupted by Kai Winn who lacked faith in the outcome and was jealous of Kiras position as the representative of the Prophets in the battle.
After the liberation of Deep Space Nine Jake continued to report on the war. He was aboard the USS Defiant during the invasion of the Chintoka system.
Jake liked to play matchmaker for his father and he introduced him to Captain Kasidy Yates, who would eventually become his second wife. Jake served as the best man at their wedding. Jake was devastated when his father ascended to a higher level of being and chose to join the Prophets in the wormhole after the end of the Dominion War. He remained on Deep Space Nine after Colonel Kira took command.

Name: Quark
Gender: Male
Species: Ferengi
Family
Mother: Ishka
Father: Keldar (deceased)
Brother: Rom
Nephew: Nog
Occupation: Bartender
BIO: One of Deep Space Nine's leading businessmen, Quark arrived on the station during the Cardassian occupation and opened a bar on the Promenade. He refused to take sides in the occupation, serving Cardassians in the bar whilst selling food illegally to the Bajorans. The latter activity gained the attention of Natima Lang, a Cardassian woman of unusually liberal political views. The two had a brief but intense affair, but when Lang discovered that Quark had used her personal access code to steal some money she broke up with him. Quark continued to work on Terok Nor until the end of the Occupation in 2369; he was preparing to leave when Starfleet took over the station, fearing the chaos which would follow a collapse of the Bajoran provisional government. Quark's nephew, Nog, was arrested by station security shortly after the arrival of Commander Sisko. Sisko promised to release the child on condition that Quark remained on the station to help keep the economic community together. The agreement has held ever since.
Later in the same year it appeared that Quark had achieved greatness when he succeeded Zek to the position of Grand Nagus. However, it transpired that Zek had faked his own death in order to test his son Krax, and Quark was stripped of the position.
Quark was never convicted of a serious crime, but has had many brushes with the law. He has frequently proclaimed himself a victim of harassment by Security Chief Odo, but in truth he has remained free more because of his resourcefulness than his honesty. In 2370 Quark was hired to steal a list of names from one of the shops on the Promenade. His business associates shot him to try and keep the crime a secret, but he survived the attempt. Quark was also involved with Vole fighting and various other schemes. However, he would also occasionally work on the right side of the law; in 2373 he testified against the Orion Syndicate, leading to another attempt on his life. Quark remained on DS9 during the Dominion occupation and assisted the underground movement led by Kira Nerys in disabling the stations weapons array, making the its recapture by Starfleet possible.
Quark has a long running feud with Brunt of the Ferengi Commerce Agency. In 2372 Brunt bribed a doctor to tell Quark he had Dorek's Syndrome. Hoping to turn a profit before going into the afterlife, Quark followed Ferengi tradition and sold the rights to his remains to Brunt. When the plot was revealed Brunt demanded Quark come good on the deal by killing himself, and had Quark's Ferengi Business License revoked when he refused. Quark's friends on deep Space Nine rallied around, providing him with free furniture and stocks for the bar and so allowing him to continue in business.
Quark lost a lot of his standing with the community in 2373 when he dabbled in arms dealing, using his holosuites to demonstrate holographic simulations of weapons to potential buyers. Although he made a lot of money from the deals, Quark had a crisis of conscience and eventually destroyed the business by arranging for some of the rival customers to run into one another on the station.
In 2375 Quark mistakenly believed that he had again become Grand Nagus when Zek announced his retirement, but was shocked to find that Rom was the real successor. He remained on the station in charge of Quark's bar.

Stepson: Jake Sisko
Husband: Benjamin Sisko
BIO: Kasidy Yates-Sisko, a freighter pilot who worked largely around the Bajor system, Kasidy became romantically involved with Commander Sisko after being introduced by his son Jake. In 2372 a Klingon Bird of Prey stopped her ship to search for Founder infiltrators, despite the fact that it was within Bajoran space. The Defiant forced the Klingons to back down and allow her on her way. Kasidy took a job with the Bajoran government which allowed her to operate wholly within the Bajor sector and so spend much more time on Deep Space Nine. Unfortunately she had Maquis sympathies, and smuggled weapons for them. This led to her arrest by Captain Sisko, and she was subsequently jailed. After her release they continued their relationship, and the two married in 2375. She became pregnant shortly afterwards, but was distraught when Sisko chose to leave the linear realm to remain with the Bajoran Prophets.

RULES
(Courtesy of Founder)

General Rules
1: Do not spam. Which includes multiple posts back to back. No OOC only posts. If you make an OOC comment, you must include a post IC. Even if it is a small one.
2: Please be active. I understand if you get busy or have personal problems. Just tell me you can't post for the moment. You don't even have to tell me what the reason is. If you don't post at least once a week, I'll be forced to drop you a color. (See bottom for colors)
3: Be nice to each other. If you have a problem with another poster for some reason, tell me and I'll try and handle it.
4: Try and read the posts. I can understand if you don't want to sift through an essay of a post. If you don't want to, don't guess. PM me and I will give you a detailed summary of what has happened. I would rather avoid someone posting a post that makes no sense and contradicts other posts and then me having to tell them to edit. I honestly do not mind giving summaries.
5: If you want to post a picture of a certain action taking place, for example a Federation fleet is dropping out of warp, then please no animation pictures or a HUGE picture. If you use photobucket, which we are supposed to be doing, resize it to be smaller please. Not everyone can handle the animations and huge pictures.
6: Please do not use asteriks to define action. For example *Runs to the turbolift*. Just put "(Insert character name) runs to the turbolift."
7: Please use quotation marks when someone is speaking. It is a lot easier to differentiate thought from speaking if you use quotation marks. It doesn't need to be perfect English or anything, just something easy for everyone to read. When you post, try and consider if the other posters can make sense of it.
8: Please use italics for telepathy and non-face-to-face communications. Including combadge use. Please no more of the =/\= stuff. Thoughts should be depicted by the underline symbol.
9: Do not use emoticons please. Not that anyone should need it...
10: Please refrain from making one liner posts such as "Aye sir." and thats it. I'm not asking for a huge paragraph, but try and write "Aye sir". (Insert character name here) goes to the station and carries out the order.
11: IMPORTANT RULE: No God-modding. Do not control other characters unless the said character has given permission to do so. Do not make your character extremely powerful. Everyone, including mine, must have a weakness.

Character Rules:

1. My most important rule. Try to keep characters Bajoran. I'll make exceptions, though. Just ask.
2. The players in this RPG will be a group of folks led by a certain individual. This group would consist mainly of Bajoran Militia, some Starfleet officers, and, maybe a civilian or two. Just remember this, okay?

The Operations Center of the Bajoran/Federation space station, Deep Space Nine, or OPS for short, was silent except for the constant "beeps" and "boops" of the computer consoles that lined the walls of the huge room. None of the Bajoran or Starfleet officers spoke, as they went on about their daily duties; a regular day aboard Deep Space Nine.

Many people came and went, to and from OPS, via the Turbolift, to the back of OPS. Many people bustled about, handing reports and such to their superiors and whatnot.

However, the bright, multi-colored lights of the many computer consoles that were dotted around the large room would distract one from the busy, almost drone-like officers scattered about the room. The blinking lights were almost hypnotic, with their rhythmitic flashing and the high-pitched sounds that the computers made every so often.

But, besides all of that, it was a regular, dull day aboard DS9...However, that was soon to change.

Outside of the station, visible via the huge, odd-shaped viewscreen above the Commander's Office, one could see the Wormhole...the Bajoran Wormhole. Well, one would see the Wormhole open and expand if someone came through or went into the Wormhole...Something that hasn't happened in what seemed like centuries...

After the War...the Dominion War...no one had entered or exited the Wormhole. It had been a whole two years since the end of the war and still no one would dare to enter the Wormhole...out of fear. Fear of the Dominion.

Yes, the Dominion, the Federation's primary enemy in that great and devastating war. No one in the Alpha Quadrant had heard anything about the Dominion back in the Gamma Quadrant. What happened to them after the war? What had happened to them after that terrible disease had ravaged the Founder's? What had happened to them after that devastating attack on the Founder's homeworld? What had happened?

No one knew the answer to these questions. Only the Dominion, themselves, knew the answers. No one in the Alpha Quadrant knew of what had happened to the Dominion after the war. In fact, no one wanted to know...

The war had been terrible. No one cared about the Dominion, not after what they had done. Betazed was still recovering from its occupation at the hands of the Dominion. Millions of people had been killed. The most ever in Federation history. Most people had just tried to forget the whole thing had ever happened...a hard thing to do, with so much destruction...so much devastation...so much death. Meaningless deaths...at the hands of the Dominion and their conspirators.

Major Kira Nerys was one of the ones that had tried to forget, but, couldn't. So much had happened to her during and after the war. She had made friends, just to see them die in the War, like Jadzia, or in Sisko's case, disappear, possibly, forever.

And, then, there was Odo...Odo...How she had loved Odo. Sadly, she feared that she would never see him, again. He was off in the Gamma Quadrant, helping to rebuild the Dominion...to help build a "new" Dominion...a Dominion without war...without oppression...without violence...a peaceful Dominion. A new Dominion.

However much Kira had missed Odo, she knew that, wherever he was, he was doing the right thing. Things needed to change in the Dominion. The Founder's homeworld had been devastated. The Founder's, themselves, had been devastated, with the disease that Section 31 had inflicted upon them in the war. The Dominion had suffered heavy losses, right alongside the Federation and almost anyone who had been involved in the war. Right now, the Dominion needed a leader. Kira knew in her heart that Odo was destined to be just that...a leader. She knew that he could help turn things around. She knew that he could do it. She had known him for years. Odo was a good man...a reliable man...a strong man...a leader...

While Kira was absorbed in thought, a young Andorian engineer rushed forward, PADD in hand.

"Colonel Kira!" the young Andorian Ensign exclaimed, pointing down at the PADD that he carried with his blue finger. His odd blue antennaes had risen up in all of the "excitement". "Command-Level replicators are down, again." the Andorian explained, excitedly.

This must have been his first assignment. No one else would have gotten so excited over a replicator malfunction. Kira could tell by the spunk in his eyes...He was young...inexperienced...yet to face the dangers and horrors of the real world. Things would change for him, though...soon.

Kira smiled, faintly, at the young Ensign, something that she had rarely done these days. She had nothing to smile about...not after the war.

"That's nothing major, Ensign. The replicators have been on the fritz, on and off, for the last week. I'll have Chief O-" Kira began, leaving her mouth hanging after the "o". She was about to say "I'll have Chief O'Brien check them out, immediately," but, she had thought better of it.

Chief O'Brien was gone. He had been gone for two years. He was back on Earth, serving as a Professor of Engineering at Starfleet Academy. And, in Kira's eyes, he was probably a damn good one.

Nog was the Chief Engineer of DS9, now. While Kira considered Nog to be an excellent officer and a skilled engineer, Kira had come to know Mister O'Brien, after working alongside hime on countless occasions.

Kira wished that she could see him, again. She had missed the Chief, with his funny Irish accent and all. She had spoken to him over subspace on several occasions. From what Kira could tell, Miles had lost some weight. Good for him...

What was this!?! Kira had been lost in her thoughts, again. How silly of her. What was wrong with her today?

"I'll have Lieutenant Nog fix them, right away." Kira said, at length. She nodded to the Andorian. "Thank you for informing me of the situation, Ensign."

The Andorian, filled with pride, nodded in return to the Colonel, before turning around and returned to his post. As he walked away, it looked like he was walking on air...his attitude would change before long...

As Kira was about to return to her post, as well, she had heard another officer shout out. It was a Trill science officer, who was sitting at one of the multiple science stations to Kira's right. The shout had stopped Kira dead in her tracks.

Deep within Kira's mind, she could only hear one thought...

"What now?"

And, yet, Kira couldn't help but wonder...

"Is it Sisko?!? Has he returned!?!"

"Commander!" the Trill officer had exclaimed, in a shocked tone of voice. "There are...there are increased neutrino readings near the Wormhole..." the Trill woman had explained. Seconds later, she continued. "Someone is coming through the Wormhole!!!"
