Well I'm a pretty big StarGate fan and I decided I wanted to create an image of a StarGate, Unfortaunatly I didn't have 3d Studio Max or Lightwave or anything else at hand except Google SketchUp.
So I set to work and its an easy program, Basic but not bad.
Here is the start of my gate temple.
I don't know if you can render in SketchUp or how to do it if you can but what I have done for images is to print screen them and put them into paint and edit the bits I don't want shown (Like the toolbars and stuff).
So here is the gate temple and the stages I've made it in so far.
The scale I've used is totally ridicioulus so I will more than likely try again later and use a more realistic scale. Since at the moment its a case of the temple is about the size of a block of flats and the rest of it is like mount everest.
This first one is when the gate is done but without colour.
This second one showing you the new sort of bricks I've put in from a different angle.
By now you've probably all noticed the fact that I've just use one circle so its really just rubbish because were does the wormhole go (This is because the rotate tool in SketchUp is a total bitch) ? Or where does the actual gate go ? Well I've fixed it in this one and added colour, I've also added a new angle to it just so you can see it all.
The forth ,nearing the end now, We have a shot of the scale of the temple which is colossal compared to the game from a few different distances away.
Now the final one is the temple housing which again is ridicioulosly scalled but meh, Its from a few different angles as well.
I can also honestly say the hardest part of making these was putting them into paint and uploading them and everything.
I'm really just looking for some feedback and suggestions on how to surround the stargate better than what I am using. I also know about the dialing pad is missing thats because I can't make it with this software yet.

In Google SketchUp you can render by doing
File -> Export -> 2D Graphic
then pick your format, like png's jpg's, gif's
Nice start on the temple.

as a fellow sg fan...if your doing an off world gate use some towers/pylons like you would find around an ancient egyption pyramid...but if its a temple here on earth i would say maybe something that would be a memorial to all lost on off world missions...ie a statue or two

From what I've saw of the angel fire (yes I've been spying on you Audacious) he seems to know how to do that sort of stuff and textures pretty well.
