My cousin who is against star trek said this to me " Once star Trek is gettting too over repetative then they bring in a new species, DS9 Had the Dominion, TNG had the borg, VOY had the 8472 and Enterprise has the Xindi"
Well i agree with him about the repetativeness with some of the episodes, but every different species that was found in each star trek programme were BRILLIANT!

Of course they will, once they learn to cloak their ships so 8472 can't detect or see them and they can go all out kamikaze on them. Might have to sacrifice a huge chunk of the collective but whatever, they'll just assimilate some more people. 8472 should've smashed em for good, except then we'd have problems with fans saying star trek's gonna suck without the borg and blah blah blah... Heh, I'm kidding. I'd hate to see the borg go, but I'd love to see 8472 kick some more borg ass.

Yeah, but not too long though because the borg are better than Species 8472.
At that point i would love too see the Borg kicking some 8472 butts.

If the Borg started shooting up 8472 bioships and destroying them like 8472 did to the borg, I would shoot the idiot who came up with the idea. The borg annoy me most of the time, I love watching them get their asses kicked. Like the new kid beating the hell out of the school's toughest bully.

Forgot to check this topic, ah whatever.
Anyways, that's not quite what I'm saying. I mean, the Borg are armed too just... y'know, not as effectively. The way you're saying it is like Species 8472 is coming after the Borg and the Borg are defenseless or something. And since the new kid is 8472, he'd be using a bio-pulse weapon, not a minigun

I personally love both Borg and species 8472, both are briliant creations of the series. To me, the Borg is trying to achieve technological perfection while 8472 represent biological perfection. Of course, both are considerably weaker than the all powerful Q, but are much stronger than all other known species or powers.
From what I can dig up on voyager, species 8472 got a chance to view the modified nano - probes that were so effective in killing them. And since they are obviously intelligent and able to conduct research and so forth, I have no doubt that they already have a way to counter act any future use of that tech against them. Therefore, I think that if any future confrontation erupts between them and the Federation, it could be quite catastrophic for Star Fleet.

^Well until the federation have time travel from the 26th century onwards. Then that gives them the advantage.

It would have been nice to have found out the actual name for the species, quite lazy if you ask me:
"In the Flesh", Voyager 5.4
"Boothby: Commander Chakotay, Origin: USS Voyager."
"Chakotay: Species 8472, Origin: Fluidic Space."
One would have though a correction was in order at least at the end, they made up and here's the real name for their species? Nope. Nothing.
I liked Prey all the same, interesting episode - very Alien-esq. Dark corridors etc.

8472 at first was too CGen'd, but later they worked on it and it became more...human i guess? well more believeable at least.
like same with voyager ship, first three seasons the ship moved so CGen'd but later it looked more real.

Yeah, Species 8472 was a pretty interesting and cool species for Star Trek to introduce. They were pretty creepy. Was it just me, or did anyone think that they looked like a giant preying mantus? And Scorpion Parts 1 & 2 was also one of my favorites episodes on Voyager. I thought it was one of the best season finales and premieres too.

I thought species 8472 were awesome, and was hoping to see them again before the finale.
As I mentioned on the Future of Trek catagory, hubby and I did have a chat about... what if, when Voyager 'thought' they'd got home at the end of season 7, they had actually arrived at an 8472 constructed Earth. The Delta Quadrant construct was just the prototype for the big one.
It would then have left the floodgates open for a Voyager film becasue the whole point of the story... they were heading for home, was still ongoing.
It might just be that the 8472 Boothby character couldn't convince the others... and the others were waiting for Voyager and other Fleet ships to arrive.
The problem with this scenario is, why wouldn't they just take over Earth instead of faffing about with space station Earth replicas?
