What do you think? After the Dominion war, it was quite clear that the Union is no longer an alpha quadrant super power, Cardassians are facing the very real threat of starvation. Billions of cardassias died in the war, Millions died when the order came though for any cardassian to be killed on sight when the allies were invading Cardassia. My Question is this: Will the Cardassians once again, rise to their formor glory, or will a compleat and total collasp of the Union occure?

It all depends on the affairs of the planet and the other major powers in the Alpha quadrant. I don't think the Klingons will help due to their hatred of Cardassians. I don't think the Romulans will help due to trying to regain political stability after Shinzon. Which only leaves Bajor and the Federation to care enough to help them. While many think Bajor would hate to help the Cardassians, I think they would. The Cardassians got what they deserved ten fold. Leaving them to die accomplishes very little. Now that the Dominion war and the Occupation are over with, both species, Cardassian and Bajoran, can leave all of that death in the past. Now they can simply move on and try to start over. It would bring political stability in that region that hasn't been seen for a long time. The Federation would want that and assist as well. Cardassia WILL rise again, but I don't think it will be soon. Also, I think due to the treaty signed at the end of the Dominion war, I bet they are now not allowed to do a lot. Perhaps build up a military, etc.

You have many good points. What are your economical thoughts? They've always had a problem with natural resources, et al...

I believe that they would rise. Since the Federation was most likely in charge of their reconstruction after the war, I think it would be in the interest of the region to see Cardassia stand strong again.

I dont think they would rise again. Surely they would rebuild and the starvation will eventuall stop with the Federation and Bajors help but i think the Federation will keep a close eye on them. I doubt they would become a super power again any time soon.
This whole situation seems to me, a lot similar to how it is with America & Japan after world war II

At this point right now, Cardasia is at a point are weak from the Diminon War so it will take a lot of will power on their part from them to rebuild from what they lost.

I can see them rising again but it wont be for a few decades.
The Cardassians are very intelligent and innovative people and although many of thier leading scholars and most innovative poeple were rounded up and killed by the Dominion I feel that there will be enough of them to rebuild.
The sticking point might be the fact that Cardassia Prime obviously does not have the natural resources to feed all thier citizens, but this can be overcome with replicators and other technology.
