Why give Conservatives or Liberals a bad name?
They had to pick a governmental style to use. I wouldn't say that using one is really any more or less offensive than another.
No, but it would have made more sense if it had been communists. Mainly for the reason that alienates the crowd of Conservatives. A loss of money on their part I'd say. If they were scared to alienate Communists, I think they could agree that many Communists countries are like the one depicted in this movie. Well...if they're able to agree...what with the lack of individuality and all.
Chrisitanity is the main religion in Britain, so wouldn't it make sense to make out a Christian religion to have become dominant? In any country with an extremely conservative government, a religion usually dominates public life. Just like that whole Afghanistan issue with the Christian convert. Islam isn't the only religion there, but it's the dominant one with the most power. I'm not condoning their use of Catholocism as a scapegoat in the movie, however Catholocism once controlled the known world. Can any other religion say the same? Therefore, if it happened once, why couldn't it happen again? |
I understand what you're saying. It would have been strange to have Judiasm or Islam dominate England, when they are predominantly Christian. I don't mind the use of the Catholics as bad guys, but they didn't even utilize them as tools for the government or conspirators or whatever. The Bishop was used in a stereotypical way. He...does things with children. They were pretty much playing on a very horrible event and black shadow on the Catholic Church. It would have been better if Religion was simply not allowed. That is a tenant of our own beliefs. Something that would probably go in an opressive government.

I feel the need to respond to such blatent...well, falsities, if I may. That case is just plain false.
For instance, read this: When it comes to illegal immigration, President Bush is not only an absolute and total FAILURE, he is INCOMPOTENT. Not only that, but he is a FISCAL SOCIALIST.
There. Not only did I call our president a failure and an incompotent on an issue, but I attacked him for his spending--perhaps the WORST in US history--calling him a horrible name for a conservative--a fiscal socialist.
The point is, it's not things that are criticisms that I dislike. It's blatent attacks pushed on the audience in films and whatnot, alienating me and an entire half of this country that is conservative.
A Bush jab here is okay, like in SWIII when there was the, "If you're not with me, your my enemy" stuff, but stuff that goes out of the way to attack this President and Conservatives and my faith? No way. Not at all.
There's the difference.
Plus One CM.

I just got back from seeing this movie. And you know what? I took it for what it was worth; a movie. I didn't analyse it, I didn't pick it to pieces. I sat there and enjoyed it!
This is an incredibly good movie. I loved it. I love the in-movie symbolism (not things pointing to subject matter outside the movie. Just things that are symbolic in context with the movie).

He has been in many movies actually

I loved this movie. It was well done, and it helps that the main actor had already worked with the directors previously.

I think it was a nice comic-book/action movie/drama were all the actors did a good job but I don't take the movie for much more than that.
The Bush comparison is easy to see if you want, but then again so is so much else too, and depending on your political point of view you can see the Bush connection in many movies.

I just watched this again. Interestingly enough, the comic was written mid-80s. Surprise, surprise,

I think I'll treat myself and rent the DVD, because I wanted to see this so bad when it was out at the cinema and I never had enough cash.

Quote: | The political climate of Britain in the early 1980s has also been cited as an influence on the work[4], with Moore positing that Margaret Thatcher's Conservative government would "obviously lose the 1983 elections", and that the Michael Foot-led Labour government that replaced it, being committed to complete nuclear disarmament, would allow the United Kingdom to escape relatively unscathed after a limited nuclear war. However, Moore felt a post-holocaust Britain quickly would be subverted by fascists.[5] Moore's predictions were perceived to be unlikely |

Yes, that was my point. That it wasn't targetted at the current US administration.

I saw this for the first time the other day and LOVED it! Of course... natalie portman's acting was a bit iffy at points, and it kinda made me want Padme to have a fake british accent... but apart from that it was fantastic!
When I remembered that V was Hugo Weaving, I freaked out a bit. His voice didn't seem recognisable. But hey. V had a great voice. And great dress sense.
I loved the end... although it got a bit weird
Quote: | with those people that were supposed to be dead |
I thought that was odd.
Oh... and it was weird that the CONSERVATIVE government had a RED logo, because blue is their colour. Although, I guess baby blue isn't all that menacing.
All in all, I thought it was a great movie. Although, thta might have been because I watched it with an open mind and didn't care about the politics.

Yeah, I thought that was a bit... off. Over used. And he reminded me of the priest in Sin City way too much.

Rented this a week or so ago, and really liked it. I'm glad I didn't let someone elses views/judgements predetermine my perspective.

I think V is one of those films where you will either love it or hate it. You either find alot in the film or you hate it. I think it has spectacular cinematics however, like the miniature models they had to do.

Well I think the movie was awesome. And when it was in theaters, I did indeed see it on the IMAX. That was very nice. I don't think I could have watched it on anything else. I don't have the DVD yet but I went to Target to look for it and it was out of stock! I really want the DVD.
