We talked about this in my current events class. It was banned to "ease racial tension between hispanic and 'non hispanic'". Both the US and Mexican flag were banned, but they still have the American flag in all the class rooms and on the flag pole outside.

I don't know about this. Its a violation of your first ammendment right to freedom of speech.

Violation or not, it's the smart thing to do.

The school is trying to make sure a gigantic brawl doesn't break out or someone doesn't get stabbed or shot. Because if that happens, what will the reaction most likely be?

"Oh why didn't the schools do something to stop this from happening?"

It's already been established in multiple court cases that schools have the right to limit students' dress. Public schools can--and do in many areas--even require uniforms.

They can limit anything they like--the American flag and "Proud to be an American" emblazoned across your chest is no more protected than your right to wear "Go Home *beep*" across your chest.

And the intent in many of these cases is exactly the same--to differentiate "us" from "them."

ETA: And, Link, yep, that's exactly what would happen, and exactly what the schools are trying to prevent.
