Thu Apr 06, 2006 12:59 am My Brand New Game Idea |
|
Now I thought of this idea while I was driving home from school oddly enough.
The Game: Grocery Store Mogul
The idea of the game is to be as accurate as possible to an actual grocery store.
Now Gameplay.
First you will name the company or store name. (You are President)
Second you must choose a location within a city. (The right location means more customers)
Third you have lets say 5 millions dollars you can use on the store.
Fourth once the location is chosen then the store must constructed. (In the game you choose premade store building that is empty on the inside.)
Time to start the actual playing..
In the store I can
Choose where I want the pharmacy, customer service booths, deli, bakery, dairy, meat department, and produce sections will be placed first.
Second I place the checkstands where the cashiers will be working in. Premade designs in place of course with different prices. The cheapest looks the worst while the most expensive looks high tech.
Thirdly I can add aisle, how many aisle I want. Now in each aisle I can label them with numbers and the most well known names just like every grocery store nowadays.
The store will have a working receiving dock so its realistic.
I can also add an office for employees and breakrooms.
After everything is set on the inside I can work on the outside. So I can place shopping cart drop offs. Where the customers can place the shopping carts back when they are done shopping. I can also layout the parking lot by having either diagonal parking lines, side, straight or a combination.
Back on the inside of the store I can place an automatic sliding doors and cart station on the inside. I can also set how many entrance/exit I can have.
Now the store is almost done. So next I can hire employees.
Employees to hire..
Store Director (Controls the Store, Gives tons of orders)
Asistant Store Director (Helps Manage the Store)
Front-End Managers (Manages the Baggers, Checkers)
Dairy Manager (Runs the Dairy)
Meat Manager (Runs the Meat Department)
Deli Manager (Runs the Deli)
Bakery Manager (Runs the Bakery)
Pharmacy Manager (Runs the Pharmacy)
Produce Manager (Runs the Produce)
Receiving Manager (Receives the items for the store)
Non Foods, Scan People, and Inventory People. (Keeps the shelves nice and full and does pricing)
Checkers (The Cashiers)
Security Personel (Optional)
Courtesy Clerks (Grocery Baggers - Cart Retrieval People)
Now on each employee in the game I can give them schedules, set how much money they can make an hour, and give them specific jobs to do.
Employees just like real life can get fired, quit, or flat-out become lazy and not do work.
In the game hiring employees is simple and easy. However since I have a budget I can't hire too many or pay them way too much money or I would go bankrupt unless of course I make enough money to support them. I can also add benefits like basic health insurance, dental, and other medical insurance.
Now the employees must be kept happy in the game or else they will quit.
As for the store I can place specific items to sell on whatever aisle. I can name each item I am selling and I can also price each item. Of course if the price is too high for most of the stuff I am selling then most of my customers will go away. I lose money then.
Now being realistic the receiving dock will receive the items I want in the store. I can order each employee to pick up the item and stock them on an aisle.
If the store customer service is good the number people shopping goes up and I make a profit.
In the game if I run out of money I will automatically lose the store will close.
thats about it for now.

Well, an interesting idea indeed.
although i think 5 million for starter money seemsl ike an awefull lot, i think you can start an entire chain of stores with that kind of money.
There is a game from Lionhead studios coming called "Project dimitri"which allows you to run you own restaurant or something. Kinda like this idea.

Sounds kinda along the lines of "Sims" or one of the "Tycoon" games.
And Lionhead? Five Mill isnt that much when you gotta stock the store, buy the equipment, pay fees, employees etc...

Most grocery stores are expensive.
The store building itself without the stuff inside is about half a million dollars or more.
The checkstands alone since its computerized is almost close to that price of the store building.
The items to sell would be close to a million of dollars since you need tons of them.
The other stuff like the aisles being set up, paying for employees, and office supplies is about 1million dollars aswell.
