I only remember seeing the "skirt" uniforms on the women in the Enterprise in Season One. I'm not sure, though...

I think we should just make a thread called "1st's Questions", 'cause you have so many of 'em!

Hey this place needs some livening up and more threads of questions asked!I remember Troi wearing a short skirt in one of the episodes. They were standard issue on TOS,Uhura wore them all the time!
Massive wigs, short skirts and black stockings!
They were replaced by skin tight all over uniforms!

Yes, in TOS they were worn consistently, not just by Uhura.
And I don't think the "1st Questions" proposal was anything against him asking questions. I happen to agree with it , as these questions aren't really thought-provoking questions and can be answered very quickly, no offense to 1st
But Mr. 1st, I must say that your continuing inquiries are most appreciated by me. They definitely give us something to look for, reading, whatever the word is

I seem to remember troi wearing a skirt early on in the series. I don't think the clothing was standard federation uniform issue in TNG, however.

They were in the first handful of eps in TNG season one. I don't think they went beyond that and It appeared to be a choice as Yar wore a uniform that was similar to the male. This was probably some sort of attempt to get back into the roots of the TOS uniforms.

I only saw Troi wear the skirt once, in "Encounter at Farpoint", the Series Premiere. However, some other women still wore the costume after that.

There was a guy that had the skirt on too. I dont remember what episode it was, but it was one of the episodes where they did a saucer sep. in the first season. So it was either "Encounter at Farpoint", or that episode where the Enterprise visited that planet where all the inhabitants had been killed by the military machines they built. But anyway, during on of the scenes where they show crew and family evacuating to the saucer section, you see a guy run by in a mustard skirt type uniform. No pants so it wasnt the dress uniform. At the time I figured either he was Scottish, or Starfleet has a better policy on gays in the military than dont ask dont tell.....

Ya, I was gonna say that too...but it wasn't a skirt, OBVIOUSLY...it was shorts...you can distinctly tell it was shorts...at least I could

Ya, TNG was trying to go back to the roots of TOS with the short skirts. They weren't quite sure they wanted to do it, so they tried it the first couple of episodes and then decided against it. (I have read the article done by the official Star Trek: The Magazine that is now discontinued in the US.)

Haha...skirts went away before the end of the first season...try within the first 10 episodes...probably actually within the first 5...I think it was like the 3rd episode we didn't see anymore skirts...

Actually, every once and a while, all the way up to maybe mid-Season III, you could see someone wearing a skirt, in the background...I believe.

Good episode. My first Q episode I have ever seen... It has one of my favorite Worf quotes in it...

"I am not a merry man!"

That line is almost as funny as Worf (IMO) most famous quote.

"Prune juice is a warrior's drink!"

HAHAHA!!!

Oh...yeah...skirts...

I think they disappeared when Gene Roddenberry was made aware that his future was supposed to be sex free.

What I mean by tyhat is that the gender of a person was not supposed to be important so the crew all started to wear the suits.

If you are seeking equality for the sexes then having women wear trousers or the same clothing as men makes sense because if I had to see another man walking around in a dress I was going to be so confused it would of been bewildering.

Now now, there are no gays in the future its been cured.
At least thats what were supposed to think I assume., since they never had any same sex interaction. I can understand not wanting to make whole THING about it but jeez even a fleeting refrence or background thing would have been nice.

I always wondered about the skirts but even they were better than those horrific allover things they had for the first two seasons

The skirt uniform disappeared from STNG midstream in Season One of STNG. It was a unisex casual uniform option that I don't think the rest of the world was ready for. I don't think my subcommander would take a Federation captain threatening to open fire seriously wearing one.
