I think B4 (from Nemesis) was sort of set up to become very much like Data. He ends the movie doing the same thing that Data did in the first episode of TNG, trying to hum a tune and not geting it quite right. Perhaps since he has all of Data's memories he will go through essentially the same "stages" of development that Data did and eventually become like Data and able to understand all the memories Data gave him.

Perhaps Data gave B4 the desire to become more like a human.

Yeah that sounds great, like Data reborn again.I think it gave hope to all the Data fans out there that his 'personality' will continue on.
Maybe in the next movie?

I'm too tired to think too analytical about this, but what I will say is that he definitely did not pass on the will to become human, to aspire to be better than what he was. That's something that Data acquired on his own, something B4 would have to do. Data even discussed this, determining their key difference, and I would have to agree with him.
Oh, and I don't think he was in any way set up to be like Data. They only did that at the end to tie into the beginning of the movie. That is all.

And they set it up for Data's MEMORIES to take over the B4 body...not for B4 to "aspire" to become more than an android. So B4 would EVENTUALLY turn "INTO" Data...therefore not being B4 anymore...

So how do you explain the relation of B4 not quite getting the song right to Data not quite being able to get "Pop goes the Weasel" in the pilot for TNG?

Yeah, I felt the same way. I actually started getting all teary eyed at the end of that movie. He sacrificed himself for the ship, the most humane thing to do, and yet he wasn't human, *sniff*

I believe that when Data died for his ship and his friends and crew, he finnaly did what he had always wanted to do.

He became human
