PostWed Mar 29, 2006 8:07 pm    What would you change...?

Hey everyone, I'm not exactly sure what brought this topic about for me but I got to thinking...

"What would you change, if you were President / Prime Minister / etc. of your respective country (America / U.K. / etc.)?"

...please answer the question accordingly as it actually got me wondering what some of us would change if we were the so-called "heads" of our respective countries. I myself am not exactly sure where to start here in America . Anyhow, post away *lol* .

(Note to Mods: I apologize if this topic is already in some other form out somewhere else throughout STV, lock this if it is, or move to the correct area if it isn't in the right one, I just thought it'd be better here...otherwise enjoy ).

One key thing: seal up our borders, preventing more illegal immigration, while at the same time making it easier to enter this country legally so that there won't be a reason to try to come illegally.

Just about everything.

I am a radical techno-humanist.

In my view, most of what we do (socially/economically/politically/governmentaly) is not the best way for the human race.

If i was Prime Minister of england i would pull out of Iraq and focus on Englands many internal problems. Also i wouldnt be so leinient when it comes to imigrants and would try to focus largly on schools and childrens health.

Also i would try to make diplomatic relationions even stronger with many countrys and try to restore englands place as one of the major powers.

Probably the first thing I'd do is send the budget to a few think tanks and ask for their suggestions. Since we are technically in war at the moment, I get rid of the tax breaks - once we've paid back a good chunk of the war debt they can come back, but tax breaks in the middle of war just makes no sense.

I'd also focus the attention of America internally. We preach that we're the best democracy in the world, and I want to make sure that we can keep that claim. With a miserable voter turnout (hovering around 50% if I remember correctly) and a bumbling education system we need to start figuring out what's going wrong. Also, we have this huge problem with all the baby boomers hitting retirement. I think that is a bit more of an immediate issue for the American people than the issues of another country.

I'd generally try and put America on a more realistic path. Presidents try and do everything. They can't, we can't. Compromises must be made and priorities must be made. Mine would be the health and well being of American citizens.

I quite like your thinking, it sounds very interesting

With me being Prime Minister i wouldnt be Presedent Bushs lap dog and would like to focus on better relationions with Russia. Still internal affaira would still be top priority. Also you people from england watching the news wouldnt know about how england will most likley miss its goal to reduce polution by a certain amount by 2010. The idea is a very good one and believe me im definatly saving my 20% :p But England only produces 2% of the worlds pollution, now im not saying that doesnt mean we shouldnt save. It just means that it wouldnt exactly be a TOP proiority. Top prioritys would be things like schools system and the problems with englands "youths"
