Thu Mar 23, 2006 4:54 pm St. Paul City Hall Bans Easter Bunny |
|
Quote: | ST. PAUL, Minn. (March 23) - The Easter Bunny has been sent packing at St. Paul City Hall.
A toy rabbit, pastel-colored eggs and a sign with the words "Happy Easter" were removed from the lobby of the City Council offices, because of concerns they might offend non-Christians.
A council secretary had put up the decorations. They were not bought with city money.
St. Paul's human rights director, Tyrone Terrill, asked that the decorations be removed, saying they could be offensive to non-Christians.
But City Council member Dave Thune says removing the decorations went too far, and he wonders why they can't celebrate spring with "bunnies and fake grass."

This is sooooooo getting out of hand.
"might offend" Why don't politicians try to deal in reality for a bit, and wait until they get an actual complaint? Especially about something as innocuous as this. Sheesh.

Time to go make some phone calls.
I knew the previous mayor of St. Paul, Randy Kelly (DFL) he would've never stood for this; unfortunately he was ousted by another, yet more Liberal Democrat, Chris Coleman, and this is what we get.
Maybe if the left would move a bit to the center, and be willing to meet the Republicans half way (like Randy Kelly did) they'd be respectable.
Funny, considering the only people in the counrty with a lower approval rating than President Bush are the Democratic Party.

Easter Bunny is not part of Christianilty. Anyone who should be offended is christians. Cause the Easter Bunny is not the reason for Easter. It is when our Lord and Savior arose from the grave. That is what is Easter is all about. Easter Bunny is more for kids cause it is make believe. But I am a christian but I am not offended by the Easter Bunny. But, other christians that I know might be cause it doesn't symbolizies with Jesus.
I don't agree with Hilary Clinton. Cause Easter Bunny issue is not really going to hurt anyone. So why try to ban it? Really won't hurt anyone.

Yeah, the whole insulting non-Christians thing is odd considering the bunny originated from Pagen beliefs (apologies for misspellings)

This is my take on it:
Quote: | The city of St. Paul, Minnesota, announced yesterday that it would fire the Easter Bunny, effective immediately. They were removed at the request of Tyrone Terrill, St. Pauls human rights director. His reasoning was that the Easter Bunny may offend non-Christians.
With the future employment of the Easter Bunny now in doubt, many wonder what lies in store next for this furry fellow. According to an anonymous source, the Easter Bunny may have been subpoenaed by the U.S. government and will be held in Guantanamo Bay indefinitely while being investigated for terrorist connections.
Theyre white, and furry, and have beady little eyes, says Anya Jenkins. You cant trust them!
The Easter Bunnys lawyer has an entirely different view of the subject. This is a clear-cut case of animal rights! he says. Im going to take this all the way to take this all the way to the Supreme Court.
St. Paul could not be reached for comment. |

... the easter bunny isn't even really a Christian thing. It's not like he was in the garden of gethsemane ready and waiting to give Jesus chocolate when he arose from the dead (of course, chocolate hadn't been discovered in Isreal at that time anyway)
The easter bunny is just kinda a symbol of spring. Like mad march hares.
I liked the easter bunny in Nightmar Before Christmas. He would've kicked the council's butt.

I wrote it.
Anyway . . . I think that this conversation is pretty one-sided because we all basically agree that the action was rather stupid. It was based on the unfortunate prevalence toward political correctness. But human beings aren't politically correct creatures, nor should we be. This doesn't mean that we have to go out of our way to offend people, but if we are paralysed over the etiquette of a fluffy bunny, then there is something wrong. We're talking about the same society that lets idiots do stupid things on national television.
And don't even make me bring up reality television. . . .

Some parts of the world seem very odd.... it's perfectly acceptable to own a firearm, but mention the Easter bunny and you might offend people... strange, huh?
