Spock was given his own ship in STII. As soon as there was trouble, he handed command over to Kirk. And he only TRIED to take the ship from Kirk in the alternate universe. The fact that it still existed in TNG, and DS9 would say that he failed.

Spock has this super concentration thing so he can never be tooken off guard but kirk still took spock out when he needed to

WS's portrayal of Kirk in STIII was great. When he found out that the Klingons had killed his son, and he stepped back and missed the chair, even my sister who doesn't really care for ST think that that was a great scene.
