Actually... your taxes pay for the aid your government sends to other countries, so in a way you do pay so that people cannot die. And not everyone who can't afford medical care is on benefits from the government.
If you don't think that overall healthcare should be free, how would you feel if healthcare was government funded for people who risk their lives every day to help others, for example firefighters and the police, or if it was reduced for public servants such as teachers?

^If they injure themselves at work then they should get compensation personally financially and medical via solicitor, which would fall back to their employers, in that case, the government. Thats O.K. I am fine with that.

I think not, because with free healthcare treatment tends to be based on a first-come-first-serve basis, and not on how sick people are. That isn't right, and there isn't any way to get around it within the system. Or so says the Harvard Business Review.

There's a triage system here- people who need it first get it first. I know, my surgery was brought forward by more than a month because I got iller. Doesn't work perfectly but still is pretty good.
Being a parent, free healthcare is important to me. I would struggle to get health insurance, as I have too many medical problems, and if I did get it the prices would just be too high. If something happens to Sammie, I'll know that she's going to get treated, no matter what. How much would it cost for the two of us to stay in hospital for nearly 2 weeks, in a private room? That's what happened when she got E.Coli at 2 months. As I was breastfeeding I had to live in with her, and to ensure she got enough nutrients the hospital provided my meals (meals by proxy I suppose you could call it).
I suppose free healthcare is like a lot of things- people don't agree with it until they have it, then they don't want to give it up. For those on low incomes, it's a godsend.
