Captain Patrick private messaged me this and I want your opinions to his question and my response..

Ok.
I have a question Captain Dan never answer directly..
I asked why can somone download a Ship mesh, take snap shots of it and "ADD" art work to it and win this contest against somone who created the Ship Mesh from scratch and added the art to it?

Like I said before.. It would be competing agaisnt whoever created the ship mesh, NOT the guy who downloaded the mesh and made a pretty picture of it?

I just never understood how that was fair..

Hey, why do you think that? What are people like me to do then, we don't know how to model cause we have only been at this maybe a year and a half. And its not really the model that counts its how you set it up and how you light it, render it, what you add. So how really is it going up against the ship maker?

I am forced to look at the blaring fact that creating a 3 dimensional mesh is far more work than downloading one and adding blue lights to it..

You asked how its like going up against the true ship maker..
Well I can only be blunt..
My picture would win over yours if you didn't have that artwork mesh created by someone else..
Its has your art work and another persons artwork..
Last time I looked..
Two agaisnt one isn't a fair match..
I guess it depends on the contest tho.. I'm just used to art contest involving art from the individual.. not art on top of anothers art..

I mean how could you not see that?
You put in some good work.. but it was on top of somone elses work..
Without that persons hard work. Your picture wouldn't be too good right?
I mean if I'm wrong.. enter your blue picture without that other guys ship.

If I put my Angelfire picture against yours I could point out the same stuff you did and then point out alot of other stuff I did to create the very mesh.
I not only did the lighting but I created the textures, the objects and so much more..

I am completely positive that you of all people know how much more work goes into making anything from scratch..

Fact is.. The 3d mesh more than counts.. its the very neucleus of the picture..
I mean you can take out the lights.. you can give it a blank background but the work of art is still going to exist!

But if you take the work of art out.. then the fancy backgrounds and lighting rarely make for a good picture by themselves..

I mean your work is 3d right?
But what did you do that was 3 Dimensional besides add lighting to an "Already" 3 Dimensional piece of art!

You asked me what people like you are to do.. Which stuck me strange because if someone went up to a sculpter and complained by asking what people who can't sculpt are to do in an sculpting contest, I'm sure he or she would shrug their shoulders also..

Its like someone who can't draw freehand but can trace another persons work, getting pist at Trekkie mage for being able to draw free hand.

I am not angry or upset, and I am not trying to argue with you.
I'm only trying to point out something I view as unfair.
I honestly do not understand your confusement in this matter..

AUDACIOUS your right, it does take a lot of work to make a model. But then it also takes a lot of work to make a 2D background for it, light it, setup, render. But i will back out of the contest since i don't want to start augrements.

Pat..
Please try not to be upset with me and read what I'm typing to you..
I never said your 2d backgrounds were not art work..
I was only trying to point out that they should be listed in the 2d art instead of 3d art..
If you back out of the contest then of course it will be your perogative.
But I was simply trying to keep things fair.. was I wrong?
