I haven't heard of half of the actors, actresses and films mentioned in CJ Gregg's initial post. I do still enjoy watching the Oscars, though.

Have any of The Oscars ever been released on DVD?

Here's a good site:
http://newsvote.bbc.co.uk/1/shared/spl/hi/entertainment/06/oscars/html/oscars_vote_1.stm

It shows you a short clip for each nominee and lets you vote which you think is better

So Crash won Best Picture!

Although "It's Hard Out Here for a Pimp"'s win of Best Original Song gives me pause.

I'm extremely disappointed in the best picture, Crash is not the best picture at all. Very good movie, but not the best of the 5.

Brokeback Mountain was robbed

I think Brokeback Mountain got all the awards it deserved. Maybe Best Picture, though. I haven't seen Munich, but I can say that Capote was indeed better than Crash.

The award for best picture (crash) is good because it tells us just because a movie has thousands of good reviews doesn't mean its going to win.

I am happy with the choice...despite most of you guys liking for Brokeback Mountain. The movie Brokeback Mountain is still good. It just failed to win against another good film (crash).

PostTue Mar 07, 2006 12:42 am    Re: The Oscars

Here is the complete list of the Oscar winners from the 78th Annual Academy Awards:

Quote:
Best Picture: "Crash."

Actor: Philip Seymour Hoffman, "Capote."

Actress: Reese Witherspoon, "Walk the Line."

Supporting Actor: George Clooney, "Syriana."

Supporting Actress: Rachel Weisz, "The Constant Gardener."

Director: Ang Lee, "Brokeback Mountain."

Foreign Film: "Tsotsi," South Africa.

Adapted Screenplay: Larry McMurtry and Diana Ossana, "Brokeback Mountain."

Original Screenplay: Paul Haggis and Bobby Moresco, "Crash."

Animated Feature Film: "Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit."

Art Direction: "Memoirs of a Geisha."

Cinematography: "Memoirs of a Geisha."

Sound Mixing: "King Kong."

Sound Editing: "King Kong."

Original Score: "Brokeback Mountain," Gustavo Santaolalla.

Original Song: "It's Hard out Here for a Pimp" from "Hustle & Flow," Jordan Houston, Cedric Coleman and Paul Beauregard.

Costume: "Memoirs of a Geisha."

Documentary Feature: "March of the Penguins."

Documentary (short subject): "A Note of Triumph: The Golden Age of Norman Corwin."

Film Editing: "Crash."

Makeup: "The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe."

Animated Short Film: "The Moon and the Son: An Imagined Conversation."

Live Action Short Film: "Six Shooter."

Visual Effects: "King Kong."

I think the two biggest upsets this year were "Crash" walking away with best picture, and "Three 6 Mafia" walking away with best song.

I'm disgusted that Star Wars didn't win any. I think it deserves Best Picture, but that's just me...
No surprise that three of the politically-charged movies were at least nominated, if not winning at least one award.

Great Film but not the best of the bunch, BBM should have won

Actor: Philip Seymour Hoffman, "Capote."
I would have liked Heath Ledger to win but i knew he would win, I'm happy for him

Actress: Reese Witherspoon, "Walk the Line."
See above

Supporting Actor: George Clooney, "Syriana."
I really wanted Jake to win this one, I thought he had a great shot after winning the BAFTA

Great Win for a Brit

RM, ROTS was not worth the gas it took to drive to the theater. Or the calories expended walking to the seats. I enjoyed my popcorn more than the movie. Watch Serenity for good SciFi this year. Its everything SW wasn't. Thats my strong opinion.

I liked Crash a lot. I was glad that it won Best Picture. What I was upset about was that Howl's Moving Castle didn't win and that Joaquin Phoenix didn't win as Best Actor. He did such a great job as Johnny Cash. I was VERY glad that Reese Witherspoon won for Best Actress though. Yeah, "It's Hard Out Here for a Pimp" was surprising. I like a lot of Jon Stuart's responses to that too. They were funny. I thought he was funny throughout the whole show. What did you guys think?
