PostMon Mar 06, 2006 5:56 pm    Politcal Correctness garbage

So, I think all this PC stuff is gay. See?

I'm a native Mainer. A native New Englander, both are in America, yes? So why aren't I a native American? I mean, my family has been here for nearly 400 years... tsk.

Then that leads us to the whole color thing. I guess I'm white, though I stay a slight tan all year round. I hear it's the Indian genes I have to thank for that. I think calling people by their color is stupid anyway, but to tell me what terms I have to use? If you call a Jamaican an African American, they can get cranky. (Personal experience on that one, ). Then, to call them AFRICAN-American disrespects them, too. Seriously, how do you know their ancestors were hauled over as slaves? What if they just came, immigrated, got their citizenship, and just want to be an AMERICAN? Tsk again, I find it funny though, on a lot of applications, it would say White_ African American_ Native American_ (When you have to check what you are). I always cross out White and write Caucasian. To be fair, you know.

So, anyway, I'm ranting. I feel like it, And since I'm the super scary ueber biatch, I guess I can, KIDDING!

Feel free to agree, disagree, or go off on your own rant if you want. I only breifly touched on one small thing, but I can so think of more.

I've long referred to my heritage as "American". This is the counrty that made me what I am, and my family what it is; and it is where I am from. I don't understand why so many people wrap themselves up so much in the history of their race/heritage, and dwell so much on it. Let's talk modern world. --- I am American.

I think the political correctness can be skewed at times. I mean, why do people have to say African American, Native American, but then say WHITE. Why not...European American or something?

It sounds wrong though to say "Hey Caucasian Boy!" instead of "Hey White Boy!"

I will agree with Theresa that PC is stupid.

There are certain things that you shouldn't say and stuff that are politically incorrect, but then you get down to things like Christmas. Now we've come to the point where we're not allowed to say what the holiday is, what the season is, etc.
I mean, for cripe's sake, it's Christmas break, not Winter Break! Christmas is a federal holiday. Christmas is one of--if not the--most celebrated holidays in the US, as 95% of Americans celebrate it! Our country is based on Judeo-Christain heritage!
Now, because a minority of people are, for the first time ever, offended by what it is we have to comply with them and disband our traditions!? What a load of crock! Holiday carols, Holiday Trees...What's next? The Egg Bunny!

Well, there's my rant

Egg Bunny, ha.

Anywho, just to let everybody know, nobody is to turn this into a political debate.

And on subject, I think some is good, but some is just taking it too far.

I just don't get the whole Caucasian/Hispanic/African American thing. I didn't even know what the first two meant until earlier this week (we don't use those terms in Britain). What's wrong with just American? Or even better, United Statian? The French do well there I personally like Leftpondian, and from now on that's what I'll call you (feel free to call me a Rightpondian).

I call myself English. I'm not white, really. I'm currently pink. If I went outside without a coat, I'd soon turn blue, then purple. If I get hot, or embarrassed, I turn red. If I'm ill, I turn green (or yellow if it's my liver that's got problems). I'm a colourful person.

That said, if I'm describing someone, I normally pick their most obvious feature. As your skin is a large part of you, I might describe you by your skin colour, especially if you're the only one that particular shade in the room. I'm not being deliberately offensive, I'm being observant. We're all different, and I'm not going to ignore your most distinctive feature.

The canadians in our school object to US residents being called American. They always say United Statian.

Well, IMO, that's ridiculous We're not United Statians. We're Americans.
And I'm proud to be one, you know.

Political correctness IMO is a fat loada...*cough*

what does it achieve? Nothing thats right ladies and Gents NOTHING, Nadda, zip, bugger all

i dont see why one culture should go out of their way not to offend another culture, personally i have no problems being called "white trash", "*beep*", "Casper", "crackah" i get called it at college all the time and we's not allowed to say anything back because we might offend someone.

and i have no objections with eating a bacon sandwich in front of muslims / jewish people i'm not gonna go out of my way to get somethin else for my breakfast just cos it might offend sumone, heck one of the guys in my college group is jewish and we calls him "GI Jew" all the time.

from personal experience a few months ago a couple of somalian - Muslim immigrant girls called me a "White bitch" hell i found it funny and because of this PC crap i couldnt say anything back for fear (not that i was scared or anything) of offending them and getting kicked out of college for racism

oooh rantsilvania...you've got me on a good topic.

Call me what ya like Flame me all ya like but i'm entitled to an opinion as a "*beep*"

-end of rant

I heard this one guy's speech a while back in which he talked about covert racism and overt racism and how political correctness is only serving to keep it hidden beneath so many of us that we hardly even realize it and others don't realize it, and then one day it may very well just explode into mass hysteria, violence, murder...Okay, so I'm exagerating on what he said it would explode into, but that's the general idea.
I say some things that you shouldn't do are call Jews the k-word, call Muslims all terrorists, call blacks either of the n-words, use the f-word (well, unless you're really angry or it's a situation where it's honestly warrented), say that something is gay when you really mean it's stupid, use bad language around little kids, talk about sex around little kids--that kind of thing. Otherwise there's just too much and it conceals it too much and does no good for us.
"The Futility of Political Correctness," to quote the above speech's title.

Speaking of that Christmas stuff!
This is what I've heard. (Political Correctness nonsense)

Happy Good Tidings.
Happy Holidays.
Happy Blessed Winter Season.
So What do you think of this Holiday Tree?
Its not a Holiday Tree its a Christmas Tree. (our good old mayor)
Have a Happy Winter Holidays.

CNN the anchor Carol Lin was asked not to say the word Holiday and say Christmas..but by the end of the show she says "Do you like the Holiday Tree?"

I can go on forever and this stuff will never end...

Before you know it I won't be able to say "Its St. Patricks Day" it will be "Happy Irish Holiday"

It irritates me....

What's politically correct about saying that something--a Christmas tree, for instance--is what it is? What's politically correct about talking about Christmas? Last I checked the opposite was true.
(If this is politics, which I don't think it is and fits entirely into the context of this debate, then please let me know and I shall stop.)

I think there can be no other rational name for a Black Peson in the US then African-American. Doesn't matter if you have been brought over too America as a slave or came out of free will, you are an American(US or canadian) Citizen with African Heritage... Thus and African-American.

Same thing goes for all White people in America, they are all European-Americans. the only place where white people come from is Europe, they are native from there becuse they where the first.

It really doesn't have anything to do with skin colour, that just came with the trade.

Native-American is when you have heritage coming from American soil, thus an Indian, they are the only Natives.

I don't really care what you call a Half-Breed. Jsyt call them American, thats what you all are.

Calling a person Black or White does have something to do with Skin colour of ocurse, but its not Racist.

the world Cup? where did you hear that specific?

Germans where called Krauts during World War II.

i think RM meant the word Kike or Knife-Nose.

I don't know if anyone's heard of a "Straw-Man Fallacy." Anyway, it's this thing in logic, where you set up your opponents argument incorrectly so you can knock it down. My latest logic teacher has a thing about Gender-Neutral Language. It's the Straw Person fallacy. I didn't even know what it was the first time I heard it.

Want to get technical, they're of asian heritage. Therfore indians are Asian Americans. Getting to the source of it all, we're all likely African in heritage. Heritage is B.S. --- Let's all drop the ancestoral facades, and focus on ourselves; make the best of what YOU ARE. Not what you're from.

I saw something on the front of one of the papers today that made me laaaaugh. A nursery in England somewhere has changed the name of the nursery rhyme "Baa Baa Black Sheep" to "Baa Baa Rainbow Sheep" to avoid offending anyone. That has to be the stupidest thing I ever heard.

I did a quick check in the field down the road. There were 4 black sheep, lots of white sheep, and no rainbow sheep. I'm sticking with the original- don't want to confuse Sammie!

Native means the first human too live on that location, that where the indians. If you have Indian blood in you, you are related to native americans. When the Asians crossed the sea duing the Ice Age America wasn't a seperate continent.

and don't go all political correct on this Topic all of the sudden.
