yes they do If they are hungry.
But i agree, cutting off a sharks fins then throwing it back alive too die is totally unneccesary.
Don't agree about the overfishing part though.... There is no just thing as overfishing, we need the food.

What right do we have to deny our decendents the species that exist now?
If we are so "intelligent" and "civilized", we should use our powers to create the food we need.

IF it were That simple, world hunger wouldn't be a problem now would it?
Don't get me wrong, i don't agree with killing offshraks for pure joy, BUT, They have legal limits in most waters. So, Complain all you like, but, unless you plan to do something, *shrug* shutup. ^.^

Who told you were intelligent and civilized?
Well when you talk to them, please send them this postcard to Neo from me. It appears he has contact with fantasy land...
And to contribute to the discussion...
Sharks are cool looking.

You tell me why Sharks are important to our descendents.

I've gone diving at an oil rig in the Gulf of Mexico, 192 miles out from Freeport (the rigs are numbered by the number of miles in a straight line to the nearest shoreline). The water is only 60-70 ft., and visibility is around 100 ft. The fish (including smaller sharks) all hang around the legs of the rig, but the large sharks seem to be repulsed by the metal (or something). You can see them circling, just at the edge of vision. It takes a while to get used to them, because you keep looking over your shoulder to see if any have come closer. Maybe they came closer at night (we only dove in the afternoon).
