The USS Crazy Horse offers an array of positions and character opportunities for both the experienced and new SIMmer. This SIM is a PBeM, set 40 years after DS9 in the year SD2406. It is an action packed, non-stop experience that you will remember for years on end!

It's a lot like it. Well, it depends. It's sometimes in a forum and sometimes through e-mail, but it's usually in a real-time chat. You're online with people at one time and, in real-time, playing your character in situations, etc.
A lot like it, but different.
In the words of Wikipedia,

Actually, I believe RPG-related stuff for other websites is, and has been, acceptable.
