I have seen the movie a few times. I liked it. It was supposed to be very scary for its time and I didn't think that it was that scary because of the old special effects but it was suspenceful and even though sometimes today the shark looked kind of mechanical, it still freaked me out to think about a giant Great White in the waters. I shudder to even think about prehistoric sharks that were twice as big as the Great White and could eat the Great White even if it wanted to.

Jaws was actually loosely based on a string of Shark Attacks up and down the Atlantic Seaboard (particularly in New Jersey) during the summer of 1916. There was a documentary on the History channel a few weeks ago.
