PostMon Feb 13, 2006 11:19 pm    U.S.S Prometheus NX-59650, Multivector Assult Mode?

The U.S.S Prometheus NX-59650 is a Prometheus class starship that can split into 3 parts and attack from multiple directions right?
The problem is that according to Star Trek:Fact Files, the Prometheus when split, all three parts can travel at warp and still be controlled by the main bridge.
What would happen if one or two of the seperated pieces had thier warp drives damaged while at warp and they dropped out of warp?
Is there a failsafe system that allows the remaining undamaged piece to drop out of warp with the others? Or would the otehr piece still travel at, say, Warp 9.975 and still be able to control the other ships at the same time?
Please help me out, Im confuzzled.

Hmm...well, you're right. All three pieces can remain at warp.

It would seem logical that there is such a fail safe, but at the same time, while the Bridge may be in TOTAL control of all three pieces, I'm sure you can control each individual piece from that piece itself, without the bridge.

Umm...or, I don't know alot about this, so save me the criticism and just give the right answer, but it might be safe to assume that the one large warp field would keep the pieces going all together.

Again, I am NOT NOT sure about, so spare me the criticism and just give a better explanation.

i also was wundering whether GALAXY class ships can be controlled in the same way at sublight speeds from the main bridge or the battle bridge while seperated?

That's a good question, too...

But since the Captain transfers himself from the Bridge to the Battle Bridge when this is done, I'd have to say no. It's not. But it can, obviously, coordinate with the saucer...

The only thing I don't like, is that I have seen no definite engines on the saucer section to propel itself when detached...AND, when the Enterprise-D detached in "Encounter at Farpoint," I don't think that would be possible detaching at Warp Speeds...ONLY b/c there is no deflector dish for the saucer section. Now yes, if there were a dish, then it's possible, but the saucer would just slow down to impulse, b/c the Stardrive section immediately slowed to impulse...

But anyway, I'd say not at warp...not without a deflector dish, anyway.

and to your original question, I'd say not like the Prometheus...just coordinated movements.

In response to your question, the engines on the saucer section of a GALAXY class starship are located on the trailing edge of the saucer section at the very edges of where the stardrive section joins into the saucer section.

Eh...it sounds plausible...but could you give me a CANON star trek site with those specs...and a possible picture? I'm very skeptical and picky when it comes to canon and things like this...Thanks!

There is no canon info regarding the saucer section at warp besides what we saw at EAF PT1. Those two red engines at the rear trailing edge are impulse engines, just like the impulse engine at the rear of the stardrive section.

I would speculate that the saucer section on it's own can use it's shields to emit a brief deflector shield and allow the ship to coast for some time safely to a stop (to impulse speeds).

True, The saucer is able to hold a stable warp field for up to 10 minutes at warp 2. The saucer can hold warp 9 for a maximum of 30 seconds in seperated flight mode.
The two little red lights at the back of the saucer ARE the impulse engines, they look like an egg laying on its side pointing towards the center of the ship.
I believe that www.trekconnection.com has a good picture of a galaxy class starship from behind.

Ya, that would make sense...but still, I'm just skeptical about the whole thing in general. I mean, that makes perfect sense, believe it or not...but I'm just skeptical...I dunno...I guess this one is just me...LOL.

ang on a second lol without a deflector array the saucer section wouldnt be capable of anything faster than thruster power, impulse power is too fast to go without a deflector, I think, yea im sure it is cos I was watching a Voyager episode the other day where the main and auxiliary deflectors were damaged to an in-operative state and tuvok was bitching (As usual) that they couldnt make impulse power let alone warp with no deflector only thrusters... I could be wrong though lol im sure the creators came up with an obscure method to baffle us all with their technology of do0o0o0o0o0om

You could go to impulse power...but it's not recommended. You only need the deflector because why? Because it deflects things. LOL...obviously. I mean I'm sure there are some tough space particles out there that could rip through the hull...I mean, according to this picture below, Full Impulse is 25% of the speed of light...(AKA: Warp One) so that's pretty fast...so you wouldn't want anything to run into your ship at that speed.

So thruster power is obviously the preferred choice. But as PrankishSmart said,

It makes sense, but as I said, I'm skeptical on that answer...

It's a remote access. Each section has it's own bridge to. The three sections are capable of acting indpendently, or together.

I know that...lol. We're talking about the Saucer Section and the Stardrive section of the Galaxy Class...
