But that's the point, that's all he's doing- talking. Nobody is taking him seriously.

Throughout history people have not taken a lot of people seriously, and look where that's gotten us
But yeah, with the Falklands...I think it's probably an empty threat.

When you take into account the state of his country, he can't really do much. It would be a waste of time to pay him much attention due to the current state of affairs within Argentina.

Its not his country's power people are worried about. Its his power that people are worried about. Not neccesarily WMDS or a large army, but words. Sometimes words are their won WMDs.

Words can start wars, but they don't do much otherwise. What matters is what you have to back them, and Chavez has nothing.

For now he has nothing. But he is cozeying up to dicatators all over South and Central America. I have a feeling he isn't doing it because hes friendly. Like ALL politicians, he has an agenda. Chavez is going off on how "Evil" America is. He could just be doing it for show OR something else. I'm not too sure what he seeks to gain from angering the UK, except another enemy of course.

Good points, Andy. Who's to say he's not rallying up anti-American sentiment down there to bring a coalition of South American states against the US?

Still, would those powers as a group want to go to war with either the UK or America (by going to war with one, you'd be also fighting the other)? Not to mention the UN. They'd have nothing to gain and everything to lose.

Who ever said they were smart?
But yeah, good points, but I think they'd have many allies in the Middle East as well, as well as in other locations. So it'd be more worthwhile. I mean, playing on anti-American sentiment can, sadly, get you far in some places, and this Falklands thing is only working towards that, presenting a reason for an eventual war.

I'm not sure they want to go to war with America and the UK. I think there is more to this than meets the eye. You are correct however, as much as it hurts me to admit it, South and Central America could not stand up to the US or UK, especially both together.

All of this could be a matter of he simply wants to consolidate power and popularity by saying what, sadly, a lot of the world likes to hear. The US sucks. Blah blah blah.

He may not be going to war, but if South and central America were to unite in a large communist state, that would be VERY bad.
