PostWed Feb 08, 2006 8:27 pm    James Bond

I know there are a few fans of James Bond here. I thought we could get a discussion going about ALL aspects of 007, whether they be books, comics, movies or video games. Please don't post unless you are familiar with the world of Bond.

I'm a big fan of the character in all his incarnations. A character who has stood the test of time has to be popular, right? Many people thought that with the end of the Cold War, the character of James Bond would become redundant, but he's continued to soar, and with the forthcoming Casino Royale movie, I'm sure his profile will remain high for a long time to come.

I love the movies myself. My favourite Bond was Roger Moore, who was interesting and played the role tongue-in-cheek. I enjoyed all his movies, particularly Live and Let Die (Bond battles a heroin magnate) and Moonraker (007 investigates the theft of a space shuttle, and battles a megalomaniac who plans to wipe out humanity).

I also liked Timothy Dalton's more human portrayal of Bond, his interpretation was very close to the James Bond from the novels. Sean Connery was also pretty good, and I liked Pierce Brosnan too. I wasn't that big a fan of George Lazenby. I hope Daniel Craig does the role proud.

I've read a lot of Bond novels and they are very good. They're exciting worlds you can immerse yourself in.

So, if you have ANY comments on the world of 007, please post here. Like I said, talk about videogames, books, comics, etc.

I didn't like Roger more M'self, He looked to burnt out I think. The movies he was in was fine though. Yes, Timothy Dalton deff portaryed a more serious bond which fit will with the story lines of the films he was in.

The Games are cool, even though I have played a couple. The recent game's have had thier own storyline, and have been done in the way the movies have with opening uniuqe sequences and such.

I havent gotton into the books, hard to read, but I want to check out the Young Bond Series that has recently, or has yet to (NOt to sure yet which it is) debuted, which center around a young, teenaged Bond in the 1930's.

I'm ashamed to say that I really like the movies, even though Bond is a total man *beep*. Sean Connery isn't one of my favorite actors, so I really wouldn't count his portrayal of Bond as a favorite, though it was far from bad. I'm going to be typical and say that Brosnan would have to be my fav.
Though I was always into Bond's gadgets/vehicles more than the actor who portrayed him,

I liked the bond films, but to me Bond is best played by Pierce Brosnan. Reasons he was cool and and better with the ladies. But overall all the 007 movies are good, but i really disliked Roger Moore.

I haven't read any of those books yet. To the best of my knowledge, two have been published so far, but my library doesn't have them yet. Also, I'm not sure I want to read about a young Bond, as I fear it would take away the mystique of the character I watched in the films. To me, Bond has always been a man in either his thirties, forties or fifties. I'm not sure if I want to suspend my disbelief and read about his younger days.

Try some of the others, Deb. Roger Moore was very tongue-in-cheek, but his movies were very entertaining. Timothy Dalton was very serious and played a Bond for the 80s. And you'd love Pierce Brosnan.

I LOVE the Bond movies!
They're some of my favorite movies. My favorite part--as is the favorite of my dad and my brother--of all the movies is in Live and Let Die when the sheriff says, "A secret agent?! On whose side!?"
lol
As for my favorite Bond...It used to be Roger Moore, but now I don't know. I like Connery and I like Brosnan. I never liked the other ones, though, and hope Daniel Craig will do better than them, and at least as well as Brosnan.
Can't say which ones are my favorites, though, but I do own Die Another Day, Goldeneye, and Live and Let Die. Looking forward to the next one!

I've seen nearly all of these, except for maybe one or two, which I've just seen parts of. I like them as a whole; it's not as if it's anything really deep, which is good from time to time. Brosnan and Connery are my favorites, and Live and Let Die is my favorite Bond film, I suppose.

Exactly. With the Bond movies, you know what you're getting. It's no different from going to your favourite restaurant for steak. When you go there, you know what steak you're getting and what it'll taste like. With the Bond films, you know what you're getting. You know there will be beautiful women, gadgets, car chases, fights, stunts, and the death of a dastardly villain. The perfect recipe.

Now, about that Daniel Craig guy. I've never heard of him, and I've never seen any of his work. So I'll be approaching his interpretation with an open mind. I'm not going to be one of those people who are complaining that he's blonde, I'm interested in his acting talent. And as a relative unknown, he brings no baggage to the role. I mean, Sean Connery wasn't that well known when he first played 007, and look how well he did.

I'll be giving Daniel Craig a chance. And it'll be good to finally see Casino Royale on the big screen (no, I'm not going to count that awful spoof starring David Niven, or the CBS movie).

I more or less liked all of the "Bond" actors for the simple reason that they all brought there own "flavor" to the character himself. I myself am looking forward to this new Bond movie Casino Royale and giving this Daniel Craig a chance at James Bond, although I'm not to fond of the idea that Bond will now be blonde. Nothing against blonde-haired people, but I'm just used to seeing this character with black or brown colored hair...something that stayed constant through "the test of time."

It'll take some getting used to, and I see where you're coming from. However, I think that a small detail like hair colour could easily be forgotten within minutes if Craig has screen presence and is able to deliver his lines in a convincing fashion.

Yeah, I don't like the idea of a blonde Bond. It just doesn't flow.
But who knows? Maybe they'll dye his hair more brownish

I really like the James Bond movies and my two favorite Bonds were Sean Connery (of course, since he's the original) and Pierce Brosnan. I think both are so sexy! I think they also portrayed the best Bond. I liked some of the games. I think the best were Golden Eye and Everything or Nothing for the PS2 and I have yet to play the From Russia With Love game. Hopefully, the new James Bond will be good.

I hope to play From Russia With Love on the PS2 soon (I'll rent it first). It's good that they've used Connery's version for the game. However, as I liked Roger Moore the best, I'd love it if they adapted, say, Moonraker to the PS2.

I don't think I've played any Bond games on the PS2, but I have one upstairs which I've been meaning to open.

Surely you shouldn't judge him on his physical appearance?

I just liked the way he did it all tongue-in-cheek. Also, he appeared in what I consider to be the really well-written movies. His contributions to the Bond franchise cannot be understated, in my opinion.

Not completely judging him by his looks, also the way he acts.

Oh, I see.

Did you ever see George Lazenby's one and only appearance as 007?

I have played FRWL for the PS2 (rented, and now own) and it really is a great game. Out of all the other ones I've played; GoldenEye (Nintendo 64), Tomorrow Never Dies (Playstation), The World Is Not Enough (PS2, I think), GoldenEye Rogue Agent (PS2), Everything or Nothing (PS2), & FRWL (PS2) I feel that they all had their own glory in one way or another, especially for all you could expect of its desired system, and I hope this future Bond film makes a great game if they do such a thing for it, because if you remember, they did not make a game out of Die Another Day and I thought for sure they would've since it was in the Brosnan/Bond era.

About the whole blond Bond thing, I don't think it should be that big of a deal. After watching for five minutes, I probably won't notice anymore.

On the subject of video games, I think they've missed the boat with Bond games over the years. Sure, there have been some, but I just think the character deserves more, much more. Hopefully, if From Russia With Love has done well in the sales, perhaps we may see more Bond adventures.

Agreed. I'm not having a go at anyone here, but I think we can all be so judgemental at times, and worry too much about things like actors height/weight/hair colour, etc (not just with Bond films, but with any franchise). If Daniel Craig has the presence and proves himself to be smooth enough, I'll be watching.

James Bond?

Probably one of my favorite film series of ALL TIME!

Thunderball and The Living Daylights are my favorites.
Timothy Dalton was the best Bond.
Roger Moore? C'mon!!!
George Lazenby...I would like have seen more of him, because he was great in On Her Majesty's Secret Service.
Pierce Brosnan was good. I don't like The World is Not Enough, though...he was fine, but the plot was...eh...
Sean Connery was awesome just because of his accent...CLASSIC!!!
The best villain? Baron Samedi...what a crazy feller.
I've read all the books and am eagerly awaiting Casino Royale. The book was great!
Daniel Craig? I, personally, have never heard of the chap...I wonder how he will do.
Game-wise? I loved Nightfire. Me and some folks in the neighborhood would play some Multiplayer. I love to play as Baron Samedi, or Baron Saturday for those of you who speak French.
Lastly, the best Bond Girl is Claudine Auger....Domino, from Thunderball. She is beautiful and spends 3/4 of the movie in a bikini. Y'know, she helped design them...

Phew!!!

Sean Connery posed nude at Edinburgh school of art before he got his break as an actor.

I love James Bond, we used to watch the films together as a family. Tee Hee scared the bejebus out of me!! I loved playing the goldeneye game on N64 too. It rocked!

When i was about six, I decided I wanted to grow up and be one of those silhouette girls who always dance naked at the beginning of Bond films... it was kinda a weird childhood dream. Now I'd rather be an actual Bond girl. That would be so cool...
