PostSat Jan 28, 2006 1:01 pm    Star Trek Research Paper

Hello everyone, I need your help. For my english class, I'm writing a research paper about that attempts to answer the question: Which Star Trek race is most powerful?. Well, by next Friday, I have to present 15 different sources from: books, magazine articles, websites. I can handle the books and webssite, but I really don't know where to find 3-5 different magazine articles that discuss the different races in Star Trek. Any and all help is greatly appreciated. Thanks

Eeek...hmm...I'd say your best bet is to find some old copies of Star Trek: The Magazine, but I couldn't even begin to tell you where to get those...That's difficult. Wish I could help...

But let us know what conclusion you come to.

There's also Star Trek: Communicator. Those're out of print now, and I'm not sure how fast you can find copies...probably not before Friday. A good source if you can manage it, though.

Well, I could probably post some tidbits from the Communicator magazines. I doubt I could post any whole articles, my fingers, wrists, and arms probably couldn't take it

I hate to state the obvious, but you will be going to the official Star Trek site, won't you?

He said he's got the websites covered...not the magazines.

Well, I didn't say Star Trek Communicator because I don't know how much they deal with the actual strength of each race. And they're not out of print...are they? I thought I had seen them still being sold at some book stores here...

I know what he said. It's just that in my experience, a lot of people (including myself) sometimes spend so hard looking elsewhere that we tend to forget official sources. I can read, though, and am aware what he wrote.

Got to Memory Alpha, they use many sources, and gather information on the races, as you would see in a trek ep, not from an interview

Thanks for the help, everyone. Star Trek: Communicator did occur to me, be that still leaves me with 2 or 3 other magazine sources.

I assume you live in the US or Canada. Here in England, we have an Official Star Trek Magazine. I don't know whether it is sold over there, in specialist magazine stores, but it could be something to consider.

TV Guide has done a number of Trek-based issues, if you can find an archive of them.

That's a good idea. Now there's the matter of finding issues of them...but thanks anyway.

'The Space Centre' in Sheffield - England keep a rack of past ST magazines that haven't been sold. I don't know if they have a web site, but if I finish work early tomorrow (only a possibility) I'll try and have a persuse through for you.

I didn't say you couldn't read. I'm well aware that it would be difficult for someone to post on here without being able to read. But, he's got the websites covered...of course the "official" website will be used. Common sense...

Anyway, ya, it would be extremely hard to get the England ST: Magazines over here...not that I wouldn't mind trying because I miss my magazines! LOL.

Good luck with the TV guides. I don't think they would have quite the information you're looking for even if you could find them.

Perhaps, but I thought it best to mention it. I'm not referring to Monster, but on many, many occasions, I've spoken to people doing some research for a school project, and when I've mentioned the official Trek site, some of them have said, "Oh, I hadn't thought of that." Sometimes, it's the most obvious things we miss.

Well, I thought of Startrek.com and some others, so here's my list of websites:
www.Startrek.com
http://www.ex-astris-scientia.org/
http://memory-alpha.org/en/wiki/Main_Page
http://www.lcarscom.net/databank.htm
http://www.stdimension.org/int/
http://www.ditl.org/
I have to give 4-6 sources, but in reality I'll only use a couple, not all 6.
I will give updates on how the paper is going including the outline, first draft and final draft, and probably more. Thanks for all your help, and I hope everyone continues to give their thoughts, since most people here are trekkies.

Sorry. Shop was just closing up as I was getting off the bus.

Would love to have helped. I'll dig out the few mags that I have and will have a browse through later tonight.
