What if Chakotay was captain instead of Janeway

Well, I've only ever judged Beltran by his acting on the show. I'd never heard about him saying anything bad at a convention, whats that all about?

I agree that Chakotay would have been a good captain, and I wish the writers had given him more attention, but he wouldn't have been as good as Kathryn, in my opinion.

I mean look at the decision she made to work with the Borg. Not alone would they very likely have been destroyed in Borg space, look at how many times Seven has saved the ship, or at least drastically altered the course of things for the good, since then! There's no way Chakotay would have made the same decision as Captain.

If Chakotay was the captain he wouldn't have distroyed the caretakers aray thingy in the first place

For all we no chakotai would of. he was in the maquis so in a sents i could be wroung but in the same sents i could be write. look at chokotai and his spiritual background. Would he or would he not of destroyed the caretakers eray?

If Chakotay was captain, I would have never started watching Voyager.

I would not have watched Voyager if Robert Beltran was not on there. If was some other actor I wouldn't even watched it. Noone could have played Chakotay good as Robert Beltran.

I would watch it both ways. I like Kate Mulgrew and Robert Beltran. I don't like Beltran much as Deb does cause she has a crush on him.

I think he would make a good captain. But, I think it would be a tie though.

I don't think he would have destroyed the array AT FIRST...As the Maquis Chakotay, he probably wouldn't have. As the Chakotay he was by then end of Voyager, yes he would have.

If Chakotay was the captain...
1) Janeway would be marquis.
2) Chakotay would have used the array to get home
3) Marquis member janeway would have rot in jail
4) Kes, the Kazon, Neelix, and Seven never would have lived very long or useful lives.

Well, the producers, while looking for a suitable female to play Janeway, after long failures of finding one, they considered having another male captain, but then said, "The first officer MUST be a female." Which means that Mulgrew, or another person, would have played the Maquis captain, soon to be first officer. But look at it this way, even if Janeway was the Maquis captain, she still would have been so exciting and probably still my most favorite actress...

But, if Chakotay were switched with Janeway and he stayed in Starfleet and Janeway were in the Maquis, then some of Chakotay's interests would possibly have changed. And even if they didn't change at all, he would have been in Starfleet for many many more years and would have also understood the needs of the crew and to not deviate off course so much.

My theory of this subject is that the missing element in they're relationship professionally also lies within ther relationship personally. Of course the situation and plot of the story would be totally different but the missing piece was Kathryn's tolorence in unique situations. Chakotay is a good person but he would be too soft and I know dispite 'protocol' he would put alot of stuff ahead of it unlike Kathryn did; 'protocol' was first and she was last.

If Chakotay was Captain, and Janeway was the Maquis, meaning Chakotay had a Starfleet Career, and Janeway dropped Starfleet...So, Chakotay would indeed have the training necessary.

The show would be really boring with Tuvok as the captain. Kate Mulgrew was te best choice for the part. Thank god the originl captin chosen didn't work out. I can't imgine Voyager without Cathrin Janeway. Shifty eyes and all. She was a presence to be reconned with. She also did a great job playing evil Janeway in that one episode. I forget the name.

Living Witness is the episode you're thinking about. Yeah, she pretty much rocked

Kate is an amazing actress. But even if she was still playing Janeway, it would have been interesting to see Chakotay in charge. It would have changed the feel of the show entirely.
