Fri Jan 20, 2006 8:45 pm Cruise 'South Park' Show Censored |
|
Quote: | Tom Cruise has reportedly stopped an episode of South Park that mocks him from being aired in Britain. The show, in which Nicole Kidman and Cruise's fellow Scientologist John Travolta are depicted attempting to coax an animated version of the actor out of a closet caused controversy when broadcast in the US. The cartoon Kidman tells Cruise, "Don't you think this has gone on long enough? It's time for you to come out of the closet. You're not fooling anyone." - referring to allegations about Cruise's sexuality. According to TheRegister.co.uk, Paramount has agreed not to show the episode again, after Cruise complained. A source tells the site, "Tom is famously very litigious and will go to great lengths to protect his reputation. Tom was said not to like the episode and Paramount just didn't dare risk showing it again. It's a shame that UK audiences will never see it because it's very funny." |
This is kinda pathetic really, I mean,... yeah....

But yes, it is rather stupid. While I don't personally like some of the humour on shows such as South Park, I'm all for satire of any sort. It helps us avoid taking things too seriously. Because really, Tom Cruise shouldn't be taken seriously.

Hmm....well I'm not in the UK....
Curious, if the UK is censoring it....and Cruise is American...how does it make sense? I mean, the US has censors too...

Did any of you see the one about Mel Gibson? They must have really struck a nerve with Cruise.

^Agreed. It's South Park. Everything on it should be censored, so this is ridiculous that they have to sensor this one thing.

Well, the point that I meant to make was actually that if they're not censoring every show, they shouldn't just censor this one. So, yeah. Although I do think it's one of the most innapropriate cartoon TV shows (and shows period) on TV, and that's why I do think censoring wouldn't be innapropriate (this coming from a guy who likes the Simpsons, Family Guy, Futurama, and has twice watched American Dad).

Well, in my opinion, it provides no value whatsoever to the viewer, and is nothing more than degrading, stupid, sexual, crude humour. I really don't think anyone needs to watch that. But whatever, I wouldn't want to stand in the way of anyones freedoms .

South Park is a pretty bad show (in general), so yeah, why bother censoring this particular thing? It's on late enough so that kiddies aren't watching it anyway.

Some are actually worth a giggle or two....

Actually, I was flipping through the stations one afternoon and it was on a basic channel, like WB2 or something like that...

Well, it's on at like 11 pm here. And if the show is on before 10, or something like that, they can't have excessive curse words. So if it was on in the afternoon, per US law, it would have ben censored.

Yeah, I'm used to seeing it on quite late.....
I suppose that's not so bad....but I was so surprised, seeing as how they only used to play the show on Comedy Central......

It's only on after 9pm watershed here. I find it lighthearted entertainment, and I normally giggle a bit. Especially the Mormon episode, as my siblings are Mormons.

He did that just fine himself by jumping up and down on a couch like a freaking idiot. Also lets not forget him announcing that he is a the master of Mentle disorders.... No he sent his carrear down the craper himself.
Southpark is fine don't like it change the channel.
Sidenote: When I saw him jumping up and down on the couch like that I felt like yelling at the TV, "Monkey Want Nana?"

South Park is awesome. They make fun of everyone. It's great. They did one with Michael Dorn in it and Cartman kept having him call Cartman "Captain" and talk in Star Trek lingo. Dorn was just getting annoyed. It was great.
Tom Cruise is weird, though. I saw him rage on a guy who squirted water in his face. It was pretty funny.

Something along those lines. He never gave the guy a chance to answer. Just kept raging. The people with Cruise were trying to stop him and he wouldn't. I laughed.
