Mon Jan 16, 2006 5:25 pm Has the world gone evil? |
|
Over the past months I've heard more stories of terrible killings all across the world. I am sick and angry at all of these cruel people who are killing all who are innocent. I feel like doing something but I'm sure its a bad idea. If I could get rid of all of the evil people in this world I would do it in a heartbeat.
Right now all of these terrible killings is getting to me and making me sad and angry.
You guys think this world is messed up?

Read history. Makes today's world look tame.
It's not such a bad world to live in today; I consider myself lucky.

I believe the world has gone bad in my opinion. People have let conscience become history meaning gone away. People killing other people, abortion, parents abusing their kids, drugs, and gangs. Probably whole more. This world is not safe anymore...
Use to a long long time ago, people didn't even have to lock their doors cause there was no fear of any break ins and murders that involve with break ins. This world will get much more worse before it gets better.

Yes, as do I.....
I mean, if you take a look back at the past centuries, especially in Europe..................ouch.
Makes this time look pretty easy-going...

Yeah. Unfortunetly this isn't anything new. The only difference is that we're more open about it today. We don't hide bad news anymore (things like depression, suicide, abortion, and mental disorders - no matter how small - weren't really talked about in the past).
However, I know that personally I live in a relatively safe area of the world, and I'm really lucky. So I probably don't have a really good picture of the horror that's out there.

Where do you live, if you don't mind my asking?
I've heard that the safest place in the world (relatively speaking, of course) is Canada....can anyone pro or attest to this?

I live in America, D.C. area.
I'd believe that Canada is one of the safest places. How do New Zealand and Australia rank, if anyone knows?

According to stats, DC is one of the scariest places, Not to mention all the mayor drama.
Anyway, I don't think the world is any better or worse off than it ever has been.

Yeah, NZ seems to be pretty well blocked off from the rest of the world, which seems to me to be the best way to go at this point.
I don't actually live in D.C. but I live near enough to it. I see the Washington, Lincoln, Jefferson memorials and the Capitol on a fairly regular basis. Not to mention that there is never a day here without politics. Then there's the fact that whenever I go out of town I'm shocked that museums aren't free

I'm a bit confused here. Is it the whole world that has gone evil, or just America or something? Has it gone evil or always been this way?

People killing other people have been around for all of mans time. Hell, it's always been around. Animals do it all the time, dinosaurs used to do it. Abortions date back most likely thousands of years, same with all the other stuff you mention. People have always locked their doors. Thousands of years ago egyptians guarded their temples quite well.
If we go back to the way it was before a couple of hundred of years ago, we would be putting people in jail for stealing a loaf of bread for their starving family.

New Zealand is just as violent as the rest of the world! The whole place is full of bikie gangs/tribal gangs that have no regard for the law!
I saw a story in a mag about a guy who had been tortured to death by his room mate!
He had to toture some one to death to be initiated into a bikie gang!
The mother of the victim released the pictures of what her son had endured before he died!He had fingers cut off, cigarette burns, bruises all over his body!
I will never forget it!
The Moari gangs do not have any fear of the police and do what they like!
I am not singling a country out,Australia has more than its fair share of criminal activity/gangs ETC....
A movie that I have been told that is very close to true life in NZ,is called 'Once were warriors'.It has a second movie that follows the story up.Check them out and you might change your mind!

Think back, about 2000 years ago. Don't you think the world was messed up then? There has always been violence on the world, because it's a part of every human. Yes, everyone. Maybe some have it stronger than others, but we're all capable of horrible things, trust me.
Maybe this is one of those times the world is doing a little worse than normal, but after such a time there will always be a time when things will get better, at least, I hope so.

I thought Luxembourg was the safest country to live in? I'm probably wrong though
Where I live now is very safe, compared to most places. The last murder to occur here (as far as I know) happened in 1864, there are children playing in the streets in the summer, about half the village knows who I am (either through Johny or the church) and we normally leave our back door unlocked. It's a village that people come to live in for a few years, and end up never leaving
The police never carry guns, either.

Many bad things happen, but good things happen in the place, we(my family and I) do good work for a Dutch organisation called Dierenhulp Zonder Grenzen(Animalhelp without limits). We mostly rescue streetdogs that otherwise would be murdered in Spain.

Let us go back to living with the honour system! You insult me, I duel you to the death or stab you on the spot. I then gain honour for defeating you and a round of applause. MAYBE if I'm proven that I was in the wrong then I have to pay the family of the deceased the value of the person I killed, (yes, people had values). I bump into you on the rode and don't excuse myself, you kill me for honour, etc, etc.
Much safer back then than now.

Or who you are.
My mom's boyfriend won't ever visit her in Georgia after his experiences the last time he was there--back in the 80s. See, he got shot by a cop because a liquor store had been robbed and he happened to be in the vicinity. What made him a suspect? He's black and was travelling through. Reason enough to shoot someone, I suppose.
Back in the early 60s, I got rocks thrown at me by Catholic school kids--because my dad is Jewish and everyone, of course, knows that all Jews killed Jesus. Perfectly justifiable to stone a 5 year-old, don't ya think?
The world has always been a nasty and dangerous place--particularly for folks who don't "fit it." Nothing's changed--and nothing will. That's human nature.

If we have an issue, we should take it to the PM system. I don't see the issue she posted as having anything to do with you in particular, but with the state itself. We can't exactly all know each other's personal history and know what state whoever is from. Perhaps if one wishes to avoid confusion, one should be specific.
(look, it works for me, too!)

I have no idea where you live--given that your location says: "in heaven." I was using my mom's boyfriend and myself as examples of folks being mean in years past. My experience was in NY, BTW, and I certainly don't blame all Catholics for the idiotic and mean things that some children did.
Apologies, intrepid is me, for not replying via PM, but I figured it was worth a defense of myself. Although why I needed to is beyond me.

I don't think that Deb meant to sound rude. She just misunderstood, and she should have asked first. She often misreads things. I am not excusing her actions though. I done fussed at her . I especially when I was viewing all this.
In my opnion, the world is gone bad, and there is no real peace no matter where you live.
