PostSat Jan 14, 2006 11:21 am    What do you feel about adoption?

I am thinking of adopting a baby or child. I know I got my own biological kids. But, I love kids. I want to build onto my house and make a safe house for teens, pregnant teens and but more of a foster home. Am I too softy?

Wow! Nice goal Deb!
I'd just like to warn you.. Take one step at a time! You've already got 2 kids of your own living with you, and your niece right? And if you're homeschooling them... and taking other kids in the house... It could be getting crowded
And pregnant teens or other kids with problems are a lot harder to handle than just 'regular' kids...
But I think it's a great idea. You're a real sweet person.

My opinion about adoption: if I want to have kids when I'm older, and if I or my boyfriend can't have them, I want to adopt too. Don't know from which part of the world yet.

I'm thinking of adoption, a lot later on in my life! Fostering children is a lot harder than raising your own, and pregnant teenagers are probably the hardest, as they'll need more of a friend than parents at the time (believe me, if you're about to become a parent you want to be treated more like an adult!).

Good luck

I know the hardship and trials about it. People home school bunch of kids before. My Aunt home schooled my cousins and she had eight kids. I really admire her for being strong as she is.

I know the goal will happen cause Charlie is even talking about it too. It is not going to happen right away. One step yes I agree.

My friend build houses and she is going to help me. Her brother and his friends. They gave us the best estimate. We even gonna buy the lot beside us so we can expand the house.

Fostered kids are probably better off going to school, rather than being taught at home. My brother found that while in foster care it was school that kept him from going crazy, as it was something he knew and gave him a bit of space from his foster parents. Doesn't stop you homeschooling your own kids though

Cool that Charlie is motivated too, Deb! I know you're just taking one step at a time, you're a smart person
Cool! Wow, great plans!

That's amazing I agree with what's already been said, one step at a time. Take is slow so things can be done right with a minimal amount of stress/chaos.

As for adoption, I think it's wonderful. The problem is that there aren't enough people considering adoption. Also, there is a lot of overseas adoption while there are still a lot of wonderful children here in the States. But yeah, I applaud anyone who has the compassion to adopt/foster children

Adoption is great, especially as another option instead of abortion and when the kid really needs a family.
I think it's a great goal for you, but I really think you should weigh the consequences of what this would mean. You have a few kids around you already, and are homeschooling them as well, so that could make things really tough for you.
Do what you want, but I think that you should consider the prospects--both good and bad--of what this could mean for you, Charlie, your kids, and everything like that.
I know friends of our family are adopting someone from some Latin American country, and they already have 4 boys, including a five year old (I think), although I don't remember the country...

I just had a friend call me from Florida. She is in college and she said she is pregnant. She didn't know what to do. She said she was not getting an abortion. I told her she can move in with me and Charlie. We help her through the pregnancy. She calls me Mama Debra. I feel real close to her. My mom said I am too soft hearted. I love helping people and I don't see nothing wrong in it.

My aunt and uncle had adopted a child*Before i was born* and she is now 17 and giving troubles. I'm telling you this, Deb, because in most times this happen with adopted kids. They begin to use drugs etc. etc. I'm not against adopting, but i will never do it.

I know you mean well Rob.. Not all kids who are adopted turn to drugs. It is from biological families as well.

It's a long story.....

I could bare another child, but I don't want to go through another heartache of another miscarriage. So, I want to go for adoption. I know I already got three kids. Kids are precious and if I can help someone who don't want their baby, I would want to adopt.

You sound like a very compassionate person. But what about your kids, dont they deserve all of your attention and love. Its going to stretch your time a lot and your kids should always come first!
I would wait til the kids had grown up and moved out of home. Then help others in need,FAMILY FIRST!!!!!

I am sorry Magenta, that was mean of me...

Sorry for double post.

I am not going to adopt right away. I just was approved for a Government Grant so I can go to Savannah tech for my college. I be doing that for 4 years til I get my college degree in teaching. So it will be awhile til I adopt.

Our house is like a youth hostel, we're always taking in waifs and strays

The adoption laws in the UK are really stupid. They have is REALLY long list of requirements, longer than other countries, so some people here adopt from China or Canada. Also, to adopt, you and your partner (if you have one) both have to be under 36, even if you're adopting a teenager. It's so retarded. All the social workers sit around complaining that the older kids in care don't get adopted, but that's because most 27 year olds don't want a 15 year old for a kid.

Fostering is very rewarding, and I think that adoption is a much better option than IVF treatment for those who want kids. ALso, with the whole population problem, adoption is a way out/

Is you nose all squished because it was up against the glass for too long?

I think I'm definately going to adopt when I'm older. That way I can have many offspring and not feel guilty about the population problem.
