i see what ur saying, but i don't think that this is what star trek is about so why do we have to talk about it, star trek used to be known as a clean show and people are turning it into something that i consider to be disgusting

LOL - yeah, I thought falling in love with Odo was pretty disgusting - he always made me think of how robbers sometimes wear pantyhose over their face as a disguise - that's what he looked like!

Seriously, though - just FYI, robbiewebster - don't forget that, especially in its early years, Star Trek was considered to be a progressive show, that often pushed the limits. I believe tv's first interracial kiss was on the original series. There were probably many people at that time who felt that a kiss between a black woman and a white man did not constitute a "clean show," but was "disgusting."

The Alternative universe Kira was probably bisexual, but the normal Kira wasn't gay at all. As for her having short hair, where do I start with other female characters having short hair? And I think most Bajoran women were agressive, at least all the ones we saw properly were.

How could Kira be gay, she dated a Bajoran and a changling (hmm....then again, one died and one technically could be any gender)

Yah..on Empok Nor she was gay or at least bi-sexual.....I thought was prolly one of the most interesting episodes...I never expected them to put something like Kira and Ezri makin' out on a Trek show...but they did.

And NO Kira was NOT gay...everyone who has said that the Bajoran females are more aggressive are 100% correct..also, just because she had short hair and a fiery attitude, and maybe a bit of a deep voice...simply means that that was who she was. Some of you seem to be preoccupied with stereotypes. The simple fact of the matter is that Kira was one kind of woman, among many other kinds of women. I am very similar to Kira myself....considering I had short hair and I have sort of a deep voice...and I can be aggressive like she was. Doesn't necessarily make me gay....although I am bi, but that belongs in another topic (haha coincidentally the one I STARTED).

And some of yeh seem to have forgotten all about Odo!! I mean..come ON.....lol.....if Kira was gay...she coulda asked Odo to morph into a woman since he was a changeling....right? am I right? And did she ever ask him to? Nyet!

Okay so the consensus is pretty much that Kira was NOT gay. So there...discussion terminated?

I thought that it was absolutely pathetic that they didn't make a gay main character by the time they made Enterprise. The people who make Star Trek are such homophobic *beeps*!

Kira should have been gay, that's a great idea, I never thought of that!

^ Cool it. I don't want this turning into a shouting match, we don't need to start that. It can be discussed calmly, don't'cha think?

I wouldn't have wanted Kira gay, myself, but I think she had a personality that could've been easily molded into the role. Any idea what the Bajoran religion thinks of it, anyway? Would be interesting to know.

I wouldn't particularly have wanted Kira to change..... and I wasn't trying to start a shouty thing, I was trying to make an argument for Gay people's equality and all that. Star Trek is supposed to be about racial equality and stuff like that but in forty years they have yet to support or include the gay community in any way. Frankly, I think it is pathetic and if I get told off for saying so then so be it.

The gay arguments on STV happen a lot. Unless people keep an eye on them, they get out of hand quick. That argument you made, right there? Fine. Calling the producers "homophbic *beeps*" is another story entirely. Get my drift? Thanks.

There has yet to be a main Hispanic Character. A main Jewish character. A main Indonesian character. Many have not been included. Does that mean they are racists and anti-Semetic? No. They haven't gotten around to it. Quite frankly, putting a Homosexual main character would complicate many things. There is a reason they don't put one on.

Also? Kira should NOT be Gay.

Kira from alternate universe was definitely gay or bisexual. Go her.

Aaaaaaaaaanyway............Kira in regular universe we know and love and understand more than alternate universe? Not gay. People are preoccupied with stereotypes.

Come on guys.... discussions like this one are probably why there hasn't been a homosexual character in star trek. Besides, to say that Kira was gay simple because she had a bi-sexual counter part in the opposite universe is a pure speculation, and is not based on any facts. Matter of fact, all the evidence points toward the fact that Kira was strait( Odo, Shakkar, Vedic B.). So I look it as 3 points for the hetero, .5 points for the homo, and in my book, the hetero side wins that fight.

I don't think Kira was gay, not that it would have mattered. In today's television, anything is possible. Like Will and Grace, it's extremely popular. I doubt that the reason they haven't created a gay ST character is because of the controversy (probably hardly any), but simply because it doesn't really matter.

That's a risk Paramount should have taken a long time ago. There is no good enough reason for them not to have one.

Hello!!! Why do you think that they have to have one??? "Just because we can do a thing, does not mean that we must do a thing." Just cuz this and that happens, and people do this and that, dosen't mean that everyone has to pay hommmege to their actions by writing them in or giving them a special day. hmmmmmmmmm..... just don't understand that line of thought....

Good point. She had male SOs as well, though. Let's agree that the mirror-universe Kira was bisexual.
As in the mirror-universe everything is totally different from the DS9 universe, consequently the DS9 Kira must have been strictly heterosexual.

Btw, when she was younger she had long hair. She cut it short only when she joined the resistance. That makes sense as a guerrilla fighter scarcely finds the time to wash and dry 3 feet long hair.
Plus, you are easy to catch with long hair, but harder with short hair which is why to my knowledge no army in the world employs long haired soldiers.

Her military status and resistance past also account for her harsh behaviour.

If short hair and rather rude manners were the only factors that qualify for homosexual preferences, 99% of our politicians would have to be considered gay

Well, this whole argument you're on about, B? It should be continued it the Chit Chat thread I created entitled "Homosexuality/Bisexuality-Your opinions."

I think it'd fit better there than in here.

Anyway....I just don't believe she was gay.

well, it served its purpose.
Though IMO the starting post was a bit extreme (no offense meant, - just my personal opinion), a post must be controversial to start a lively discussion in an otherwise rather dead forum. It's very hard to keep on the right side of the thin line between trolling and provoking replies, and I'd say on the whole senor boogie woogie did a rather good job.
