Going through TNG for the first time.

Hi everyone, over the last two years i've been buying the DVD boxsets of TNG and watching them for the first time, i'm currently up to Season 6. What a show! It's so rare to actually watch a show where the quality of it improves over time rather than decline. The special effects, writing, acting- everything! I love it.

How did everyone else find TNG? Was it the same feeling back then as it was now?

it whas just perfect for my feeling but i am a TNG fan so i think my opinion is not so reliable but a show like TNG is the best for the world according to my feelings

I have just brought the entire 7 seasons,and I will never get sick of watching them.The best show EVER!!!!!!!
LOVE WORF the most,data,picard,wesley,geordi are also great characters!

Quite different from the other series I agree. Season 7 is the best of TNG. What can we say for voyager's season 7?

Thanks 'Mate' nice to see a few of the 'locals' are in here!I loved how the characters were built up over time.They were really a close knit family in the end.I cried when Data was killed in nemisis!
He was an excellent character,when he put in his emotion chip his character took on even more meaning!
I liked the episode where Data is giving a briefing,and he has a finger puzzle on.He cant work out how to get it off!!!!

All the computer smarts in the world,and he couldnt get out of a simple finger puzzle!!!!
I would love my son to be as smart as Wesley!He was a very intelligent young guy,heaps of potential!
Geordi was so 'likeable',and also a super smart engineer!!!
I think Beverly Crusher was a beautiful lady,the prettiest of all the women in star trek I think!

I'll always LOVE Voyager the best out of all of the series, but I have to say this about TNG:

I adore Patrick Stewart, damn near worship him!

The show itself overall improved so much as it progressed over the years. The acting, writing, effects...all of the above just whisked it into the High Ratings bracket in my opinion.

Voyager is my Picard and TNG is my "Number One"

Did that make any sense?

:)Was Voyager the first series that you watched?If so that usually makes it the 'one' that turns out your favourite.Thats my theory anyway!
Im sure if the first series I watched was Voyager I would think of it as my favourite too.
Voyager had a heap of great moments too.In the TNG series it was the first modern update of the original,besides the movies!
I liked Riker too,a bit of a womaniser,but he was also good looking.He is very tall,as tall as worf.The episode when he was commisioned to a klingon vessel,and a HUGE Klingon challenged him.He kicked its butt!

I also really liked DS9,especially when Worf joined the show.As it heated up with the war,lots of Klingon action!Loved when worf killed chancellor Gowron,then handed the leadership to Martog!

Voyager was my first series, started watching when i was about 11 years old. Voyager was great for the first 4 seasons, but after that it dropped off. Now i'm into TNG, i prefer TNG, even though there's less action, there's more originality to the stories and they're much better in my opinion.

I also have DS9 on DVD which I havent watched yet but will once TNG is finished.

I don't see how the acting surpassed TNG. TNG actors were world class already established actors with previous acting experience etc. Robert Picardo is the only actor on VOY than might come close to TNG actors in the regard you speak of.

Patrick Steward is a trained and experienced movie/stage actor.The whole cast had extensive acting roles before TNG!!!
Janeways character was that of a strong female in a leading role,but Picard stuck to the rules,was supremely intelligent.And was the very essence of what star trek represented to me!
In all the other shows after TNG,they all strayed from the star fleet ideals.The federation rules and morals,objectives are what I really liked about Star Trek!!

tng is much better then voy because they where cool in tng and it whas more like the original series as far as i know

Umm, Prankish, you always seem to open your mouth before speaking some times. You fail to give Kate Mulgrew the credit due because she probably, I don't know for certain but I know her background better than that of Picardo, has more acting experience than Picardo. She's done tons of Theatre work, and many appearances in movies and tv shows.

While I won't pretend to know any of the cast backgrounds from TNG, I'm saying that with as "good" of actors as you all are trying to make out the cast of TNG, it sure took them forever to figure out their characters and get comfortable to play them properly as they did in the 7th season. It didn't take near as long for the cast of Voyager to figure out their characters and get comfortable, not to mention the fact that Voyager had an extremely short first season of only 15 episodes instead of the full 26.

^ Actually, regarding the TNG actors, I saw an interview with... I don't know, one of the producers from TNG or something, and they said that the only two actors on the show who were well-known when it started were Wil Wheaton and LeVar Burton.

Ya, Patrick Stuart may have been famous in England or something with his Theatre there. Marina Sirtis wasn't very well known. (I think it was Denise Crosby) who said to ST: Magazine that she hadn't done anything prior to TNG. It might have been Sirtis, but I'm VERY confident it was Crosby.

And it's not exactly about how "well known" they are/were. It's about how well they defined their character, how quickly they got comfortable with their character, and how quickly they were able to apply it and have a real believable person. It took TNG's cast a bit too long to do it.
